I hope I can still keep my G-man status even though I found a really nice set of Ping Eye2 becu's and they are now in the bag. My G25's aren't going anywhere this time though.

The origin story of the G had to start somewhere.

I actually picked up a set of Mizuno 925 Hot Metals to compare against the G425's for fun because the price was right. The 425's and becu eye2's aren't going anywhere though, so keeping my card.

The Mizuno HM's seem like the only other GI iron with some legacy like the G series, though not on the same scale. Any one else dabble with these at some point?

I had the 923HM's . Very nice irons but just too strong lofted for me. Had a hard time hitting anything lower than the 7.

Yes, had a set of G430 and then 925 HM, returned both and stuck with my ZX5's. I'm a decent ballstriker and found the soles on both the G430 and HM were too thick in the 6 iron and up, and didn't like seeing so much of the cavity at address in the mid-longer irons. Both are good game improvement irons but realize players distance irons suit me better.

Found a nice set of Rapture J spec irons for sale for a good price.  4-S, along with an A wedge.  I assume the A=U, for the Japanese market?

Can those that have played these irons chime in?  How does the Ti face insert sound and feel?  I don't want anything tinny sounding.  Solid feel and quiet please.

Pretty solid feeling - from memory don't remember weird sound at impact. Yup, A=U - i played  4 & 5 irons quite a bit(coming from G2HL).

Nice FIND 👍

All I can tell you about them is that they seem to be a real solid iron that people seem to hang on to for a long time. I know he doesn't post here anymore but @Conrad1953 has a set and loves them. I came close to buying a set when I bought my G25's. Let us know how you get along with them.

Have played the original Raptures for many years.  They are not the J Spec model, just the US model.  I find the Ti face both very soft and quiet, much more so than any more modern game improvement items.

Thanks for the feedback.  Checking eBay, I see three different sellers using the same photos for those Raptures.  Some scammy business is brewing.

Strongly considering putting the g430’s in the bag. A little history.

I’m currently a 8.6, plenty long off the tee and with decent speed (108-114 chs). I don’t need distance but am not opposed to it either. My major flaw is GIR. I just struggle with getting the damn ball on the green.

I have played i210’s for the past 3 years. Last year I got i230’s but didn’t like them nearly as well and quickly sold them. This winter I got a set of i530’s and really like them. Hit them exceptionally well and I love the look of them.

in true club ho fashion I wondered if the g430’s were easier to hit and I’m of mindset that if a club can help me score better, I don’t care what it looks like. So I got a set of g430’s. I haven’t really hit them much tbh but I do wonder if some folks have used both the i530 and the g430 irons to compare them to.  The ONLY thing I don’t love about the g430’s are the weird lofts.

with the i530 I can play normal wedges and top of bag as it’s 5-UW 22*-47*. With the g430’s it’s 5-UW 22*-45.5*.

I just purchase the g440 irons. First g set in my life. I'm leaving the ie1 irons

I left the ie1s for G425s when they first came out and it was a mistake in hindsight: I couldn't get over the poor feel and sound at impact. But I hear the 440s have improved both of those things, so hopefully it works out well for you!

I'm just gonna throw this out there ... if you're hesitant to bend the G430 wedges weak, here's an option: Sell both sets and get G440 irons instead. They're the same lofts as the i530s, 42 degree PW and 47 degree UW.

Interesting. Feedback on g440’s? I love the lofts of the g425 but a buddy plays them and boy do they sound terrible and feel worse. On mishits they have a distinct aluminum bat sound that we all just laugh at. The g430’s feel great.

I have 425s and I’m not sure what you’re talking about. The 425 driver is known for having a pretty distinctive sound but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard or hit any irons that sound anything like you’re claiming. Maybe it’s the ball.

Lucky for you then, that's the reason I moved on from them! They gave me a pronounced "thwack" and were off putting. With so many iron choices out there, I didn't feel like I needed to compromise feedback and feel to get the results I wanted.  I'm a Ping fanboy, played ever G-model from G5 - G, but once they moved to the core-eye tech on the G, it wasn't the same for me.

I have G425s as well and like the sound. I normally play a Callaway Chromesoft but any time I play one of the “firmer” performance balls the sound is pretty harsh. Also the middle father club seems to sound much nicer than the hosel.

Out of curiosity, what ball did you use to get this data?

Great question.... these shots were hit with the Taylormade TP-5, which added about ~300rpms of spin and ~.5* launch over the Titleist Pro V1 RCT in the fitting.

Thanks for the reply.  I think ball choice is very important when going with lower spin irons.  I feel spin is a good thing unless it’s achieved through a swing flaw.

Couldn’t agree more.

I like more spin, gives me better control.  I was sub-5000 rpm on the standard 7 iron loft, that’s why I went retro.

I’ll probably go back to TP-5 ball once I get my driver sorted.  TP-5 spin is perfect for me in the irons, but I sacrifice a little distance with the driver.  Pro V1 is just the opposite.

Moved into some G430's at the end of last season after hitting a friend's.  Now I'm moving into the G440's.  Deciding between sets with AWT 3.0's and Modus 105's.  I like the turf interaction better with the 440's.  Great irons.  I really like the 430's as well and played some solid golf with them.  I just don't have the time to practice like I did before, so I've just embraced the G series life.

wow....played my first round with my Ping G730's today and man o man are these  babies super forgiving and also a club longer than my ping g710 irons.  I highly recommend trying these babies and I was fitted an put them up against the ping g440's and the g730s came out on top.  Very easy to hit and a full iron difference

On a side note I also bought a ping bunkr wedge and if you struggle to get out of sand bunkers and cannot suggest this club enough.  I was shocked how easy this thing gets the club out of bunkers

I am playing the G440's 6-UW in Alta CB graphite reg flex in retro spec. When I tried the retro specs my launch and spin increased and I didn't lose any noticeable distance in the retro specs. My ball has been sticking well on the greens even with the 6 iron and 7 iron. I haven't had to many warm days yet but the few days that have been in the 70's I noticed I am a club longer. They launch high and carry well.
