Had my first round with them yesterday. 84. The felt hard and clicky. I was playing a callaway chrome soft ball to help with it. I put on the jumbo max xs grips not sure if i will stick with the grips. The irons gave me some extra distance from my IE1 irons. My best shot was a 6 iron that a flew almost 200 yards wind was helping.

Give the grips some time. I did the same and was about to change back when I just started grooving them. Now the comfort of them filling up the grip in my hands makes the confidence to go after the ball much better than the regular grips ever did.

What size did you get?

I tried small and the medium and liked the small the most, however I have only had the larger size on (9 iron RN) for a week so that could change. So far though the small is the best for me. I wear a Med Large or Large glove depending on the brand just FYI. I think I would classify my hand size as average. I do have elbow and forearm trouble from overuse and this large grip has made it possible to really go after the ball and not feel like I am about to toss the club.

Okay, Nessism has talked me into giving the reshaft a go on my own. I have tinkered with clubs in the past, so I am not overly intimidated. I have ordered up the set of Recoil 95s F3 from ebay. Will be installing those in my G30s at 1/4" longer than the existing CFS Distance. I ordered the 9-shaft set thinking I may soft-step them once. I'll keep the group informed as I get all the supplies and pull the trigger on the work. Glad to participate and be a G-Man!

Finally coming back around to this. I'm going to start with the 4-iron and PW and hit the range. Pulled the 4-iron head today. Wasn't as bad as some people had made it out to be. Got it cleaned up nicely. Opened the box of shafts and grabbed the 4-i shaft. Then, I noticed that the ebay recoil 95 shafts are pre-prepped. In general, that would be cool, but they are prepped higher than the insertion depth on the G30s. I know, it's just cosmetic, but...
Went back and checked the ebay listing. Nowhere in it did it mentioned preopped, but the pics do clearly show it, if I had looked closely enough. What would you guys do?I will probably just move forward, and perhaps hit them with some paint or nail polish at some point...or not.

Tip the shaft enough to hide the prep.  It won't be enough to effect the flex.  Before install, use a bench grinder or sanding block, to bevel the last 1/4" of the tip, so the shafts will bottom in the hosel without pounding the shaft in.

Found a nice set of Rapture J spec irons for sale for a good price.  4-S, along with an A wedge.  I assume the A=U, for the Japanese market?

Can those that have played these irons chime in?  How does the Ti face insert sound and feel?  I don't want anything tinny sounding.  Solid feel and quiet please.

Had a set of Rapture Js and if I can recall, I believe there is less offset with them. They are typical Raptures, clicks with a firm ball, sound/feel typically G with a soft ball. Crazy forgiving for that vintage. HIGH ball flight, very high. Solid feel. Not quiet.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, it is less than about 1/4" inch that I would need to trim off. So I will go ahead and do that.
Interestingly, on the 4-iron head I pulled, I don't see that there is the step at the bottom of the bore. Perhaps it is so subtle that you can't easily see it? The 4-iron has a much later build date (Feb 2018) as the original set was 5-G. Could that have changed? I will pull the PW today and check.

Could there be some old epoxy covering the hosel floor, hiding the step?  You may have to heat the hosel, and scrap it out with a small screwdriver or similar, in order to clean out all the old grunge.

And before installing the new shafts, be sure to abrade the hosel ID using sandpaper, to assure a good surface to bond to.  A stainless brush is good for cleaning, but abrading with sandpaper is still needed.

Lastly, back in my earlier G days, building different sets, different shafts, experimenting, I had some sets of the ferruleless jobbies that made a creaking noise from the bonded joint.  This made me crazy, and I tore down more than one set to rebond them.  One of the solutions that worked for me was extremely careful prep work, and using 3M acrylic adhesive, instead of epoxy, which is harder and less flexible.  Guys that read the Tech forum know about my love affair with acrylic adhesive, either 3M DP8410NS or DP810.  This is what Ping uses when building clubs in modern times, and it's best of the best when it comes to club adhesives.

I cleaned the bore first with a wire brush/drill attachment, then with sand paper attachment. Lastly, some isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip. It is pristine. I will pull the PW later today for a comparison. I did verify insertion depth of the shaft versus the CFS that I pulled. Initially it did not go all the way down, but I lightly sanded the tip of the recoil about 1/4" and then it went to the same depth. So, perhaps the step is just more of a taper and difficult to see?

Had a fitting at GolfTec over the weekend and ended up in the G440 irons

Almost bought the I530 as they were a great option but I am not getting any better only older, so I went with a little more forgiveness

I was amazed at the forgiveness of the I530

Club was really tough to turn down but I was seeing the same launch angle, spin numbers, descent angle, and distance with the 440 as I was getting with the I530

They were almost identical

Don't think you can go wrong with either club

3rd place was the Mizuno JPX925

I will have to say the Callaway Elyte was ridiculously long

I hit a 7 iron 165, the Elyte 7 iron went 185

What do you do at the bottom of the bag?

Personally, I thought the i530 was the most solid club I hit the entire time

The 440 felt good, but with the 530, you could feel the "thwack" along with hearing it

Hard to describe the difference between them other than to say the 440 was not a solid as the 530

And that is not a knock on the 440

I just went with a little more forgiveness and a little bit lighter in the pocketbook

Your assessment confirmed my assumptions, thank you! The 440s sound like a great option for those putting a higher premium on forgiveness over feel.

I can weigh in here, too. I had a fitting two weeks ago and was encouraging the fitter to help me into the G440s. I love the G series and would have been playing them the last couple of seasons but the feel and sound of the latest models just didn’t quite do it for me.

I was coming from a fully forged players cb, so he wanted me to try some “tweener” clubs before the Gs. The i530 felt fantastic. Much more muted than the prior G series models. The G440s felt fine to me and I would gladly game them (I wouldn’t say the same for the g425s, might say the same for the 430s, but wouldn’t have been concerned at all with the 440 feel). But, the i530s were even better. I hated the feel of the i500s and really haven’t considered the ping hollow bodied irons because of that, so the i530s were a very pleasant surprise. I ended up choosing them over the p790s (which were also nice but not as consistent for me).

We will see how the i530s fare for performance on the course, but I did find them nicer feeling than the g440s. Both felt better than the prior models in the same line of clubs from Ping.

Just got them last weekend

Already in play and already beyond satisfied with them

The forgiveness is off the charts

I hit a couple of thin shots last week and then actually stayed on the green and didn't fly over them

Solid club

I want to echo this sentiment also

The 425 felt harsh to me, the 430 was a step in the right direction, but the 440 is a really solid feelling club

Now onto new wedges

What was it about the Elyte irons that you didn’t like? I’m getting itchy for new irons and was considering them.

fitting didn’t quite live up to real life. Quite nice irons but I struggle with launch and spin.  The Elyte HLs were fine 8 on down but the 6 and 7 seemed to come out without much spin for me.  I could get around the course with them, but just felt like something else would fit me better. I have done well with Ping irons in the past so I am just kind of coming home if anything.

As much as I love my ping G series irons, I think it's time to move on. I have lost the weight on 4 clubs and had ping repair them but going without an iron for awhile (it was 21 days last time) is starting to annoy me.

After yesterday's 9 holes on a hard baked course, I now have a further 3 irons without weights, 1 of which was already repaired by Ping. That's 7 times I've lost a weight.

I can't knock pings customers service but there's clearly been an issue with this particular model.

Time to move on but to what?
