G-MEN UNITE

ShortSticks

In the last 5 years I've bounced back and forth between G's and i's so many times I'm starting to loose track. But so far this spring I'm really enjoying the G25's. they are such a solid iron. Other than maybe switching to graphite shafts I'm sold on the G's.

For the first time in a long time I don't have any G's in my bag although I do have a full set of Pings. Bag consists of Anser driver, K15 fairway woods, Karsten hybrids, K15 irons, Eye 2 lob wedge and Scottsdale putter.

I've made what would be considered as a half hearted attempt to be a G-Man in the past few months.............All G30 woods and a Ping Hoofer 14 bag............I'm thirsting for a set of G30 irons but I can't come to terms with selling my ISI becu's. The ISI's just flat out perform for me and I love the copper look. I even added a couple of ISI becu SW's a couple of weeks ago. Like Ness mentions Odyssey make some great putters and I've had a counter balanced Tank for a couple of years and that's going nowhere.

Driver - Ping G400 LST 8.5* Tour Stiff 65

I play G25 irons, G30 Driver, Fairway woods and hybrids, and a Ketch putter, so I may qualify as a G man. :-)

I had a fitting check this am with my pro and he is encouraging me to change out my iron shafts from CFS Regular to AWT 2.0's in stiff.

He thinks i can keep the G25 heads and just upgrade the shafts, which I'm considering, but during the fitting I also hit G's and they are very nice.

Any opinions from someone who's hit both on whether i would notice much of a difference between the G25 and the G if i just give it up and go to the new heads?

David

I went from G25s to the new Gs, and now back to the G25s. I was getting 15-18 yards more with the Gs and a nice ball flight. However, I didn't like the feel and prefer the ferrule-less look of the 25s. They are just more confidence inspiring while addressing the ball, but that's just me.

A little surprised your fitter suggested going stiff in the AWT vs the regular in CFS (assuming you're properly fit for the regular CFS). I found the AWT to be a tad more stiff than the CFS and in hindsight would've dropped down a flex.

My original fitting was done on the range with no monitors of any kind, when I was just returning to the game, and the fellow who fit me thought it was a toss up between R and stiff. I went stiff in my driver and fairways, but reg in my irons thinking this would encourage rage a smooth iron swing and be a little softer on my hands. On the monitors, it wasn't even close, stiff all the way. Some of this is a solid year of playing as well as hitting the gym, but it's not ego for me, I just want a shaft that gives me a little more consistency.

I should have been fitted on a monitor in the first place.

I love the g25s and went with them over the newer g30s because I like the regular loft increments. I think I'll just have them reshafted @ ping so they can set the swing weights properly. Thanks

Am I the only one who prefers the look of the G30 or G25 irons over the "G"? I've been scouring eBay for a deal on a set of either the G30 or G25 but boy do these hold their value.

I agree!! Global Golf and 3balls have been running some good deals (20% off $150 purchases, etc.) lately and that's how I scored my set. Got 4-UW G25s Very Good condition for $350 shipped. Didn't think that was too bad a deal. Could've got the G30s w/ same set makeup for $100 more, but didn't really see the point..

I like the appearance of the G25 and G30 back cavity more than the new G. But in my opinion the appearance of the club in the playing position trumps the cavity appearance, and that's where the new G WINS.

Once a G-MAN.....

Wow, nice looking bag!

Did you prefer the crossover over the new G hybrid? I tend to prefer hybrids as they're so versatile, but my stock shot is a high draw (after many years fighting a cut). I can flight them down too, but I like the high flight for approaches into shallow greens.

Hoping to get fit for the G driver/fw/hybrid soon, but will try the crossover for $hits and giggles. :)

It's an interesting one....

I've played hybrids at 3 & 4 for some time now BUT the G irons are really forgiving so went all in on them. Chose the Crossover for no real reason over the G Hybrid other than I like new things.

On course (for me) it's at least as versatile as any hybrid I've used - the flight is plenty high enough for most approaches and it can easily be flighted down.

Hope this helps (a little)

I've wanted G's for a few years but never got around to doing it. Last week I bought G25's 4-W, and just now I won an ebay auction for the UW. I've only hit them at the range, but enough to know that they are pretty easy to hit. Very happy. I don't change irons often. If these make the bag, they will get a lot of playing time.

Hit the G's in the Golfsmith hitting bay and will hit them at the Golfsmith Tent/Fitting day this weekend. I may put my G25 4-UW CFS R's and G30 4-UW TFC 419 R's on the block ...

I put the G's to the 28 handicap test today in Austin. I hit the G's, GMax, AP1 716, Callaway XR, Cobra King F6, and Mizuno JPX-EZ with regular steel or regular graphite shafts. The G's hit nice high draws, the GMax and Mizunos just wanted to go straight and high. The Cobra's really surprised me - flew high, straight, and far! The Callaways and Titleists were OK but did not like feel of XRs and the AP1's were not as forgiving on my toe hits. For me, it's kind of same swing same result, better swing better result. The G's and the Cobras won the day - not enough to kick the G30's out of the bag for now but the Cobras are a real contender!

We need some G-Men clarification on WRX.

Maybe something like this:

"The G Men" will only refer to those playing the new "G" model.

"G men" will reference someone playing any of the prior G model clubs.

Started very late to the idea. Just something about that toe looking back at me. First try was a G 10 8-9-w-u coupled with I 10 4-5-6-7.

And discovered what evertone else knew, just not me! Now play G 25 full set and I believe they will be my last set of irons. I know my carry distance

down to a couple of yards and love the feel & flight. Just wished I was more open to the idea earlier in life.

Any and all G players are welcome to the club. For the most part it's about the irons, but I propose an open door policy. :welcomeani:

I play G25's, just fantastic sticks and won't be going anywhere. I actually don't think they look that big, they are pleasing to my eye, especially when the ball is headed at the stick. I actually took my 4 iron out for a few rounds messing with a hybrid. I put it back in yesterday and played 36. We had a bit of wind yesterday, ended up hitting it 4 times, tiwce on a par 3 into the wind, twice on the long par 4 on the back into the wind. I hit one to 3 feet on the par 3, the other was about 20, and hit the green on 10 both times from about 185 into a wind. So easy to hit hi and straight.

More golfers would play better golf with these irons in the bag. I play with someone who recently switched from his GI irons to MP 54's, he just does not hit the ball anywhere near as consistent, and has lost distance.

Lies! they didn't even make your back up bag! ;)

Uh oh I'm going to have to retire from this thread. Having some AP2's arriving in a week. I still have the G30 hybrid in the bag so I can hang on a bit longer.
