As a single digit hdcp player, I had been a long-time Ping I player. With some health issues and no longer being able to hit a lot of range balls, I switched to the G25s a few years ago. After my first round with these, could not believe it took me so long to make the change. The difference in forgiveness was remarkable. Plus, I still have some workability with these too. I've done some preliminary testing with the new G irons with favorable results. Performance looks positive but would rather of had all brushed stainless finish.

I put the G's to the 28 handicap test today in Austin. I hit the G's, GMax, AP1 716, Callaway XR, Cobra King F6, and Mizuno JPX-EZ with regular steel or regular graphite shafts. The G's hit nice high draws, the GMax and Mizunos just wanted to go straight and high. The Cobra's really surprised me - flew high, straight, and far! The Callaways and Titleists were OK but did not like feel of XRs and the AP1's were not as forgiving on my toe hits. For me, it's kind of same swing same result, better swing better result. The G's and the Cobras won the day - not enough to kick the G30's out of the bag for now but the Cobras are a real contender!

G's on order - Driver, 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 to PW ... YAY!

Just couldn't get along with the chrome. Scratched up so easy and just looked out of place. Took the scotch brite to it to give it more of a satin look.

 

Looks great. The chrome is offputting on this iron. Which type of Scotchbrite pad?

Look close at the photo and you will see green shards in the cavity. Green, maroon, gray, all will work. I'm almost ready to do my set. Just waiting for a little more bag chatter first.

I asked you a question in another thread that you may have missed, so I'm asking again here.

 

I demoed the GMax w/AWT 2.0 shaft in a 7 iron and really liked it. You mentioned I should demo more than just the 7 iron, especially since the shafts are heavier in the shorter irons. How do I do that? Do those Ping fitting cart have more than just 7 irons. Fitting is relatively new to me.

So I've got a set of eye 2 4-pw(and like how easy they are to hit) what g irons should I look at if I only want 3 wedges and like a 52 and 58 combo? (I'm totally ok with bending to 53/54 if it fits just don't wanna buy anything new)

Well, hopefully there is a shop in your area with demo clubs. At minimum I suggest swinging the long irons in the shop so you can judge club heft. Some people are sensitive to weight so some swinging, even if there is no ball striking involved, should help you judge.

I've had my G's for over 3 months now and I can't see myself getting anything else for a long time unless Ping comes out with new G series that I think are even better. And that will be a tall task.

Although I started this thread a couple of years ago, I am still playin my G20s. Finishing up their 5th season in the bag! Hows that for longevity.

Hopefully you'll include the Rapture rejects under your super shovel umbrella. They're just a fancy G series iron anyway.

 

Started with G5's (didn't work out), moved to the I3 O-size (so-so), brief stints with G15's, Eye2 (twice), and I5's (twice). The Raptures are the best fit I've ever had with a Ping iron. Going to take a lot to move me away from them. Only thing I've even looked at in the past 3 years is the Wishon 771, but I don't think they would be enough of an upgrade to spend the money.

Picked up a set of G's maybe 4-6 weeks ago and i can't seem to pry them out of my bag.

Yes, the Raptures, K-15 and Karstens all were grandfathered in since they are basically G irons on steriods.

Welcome my friend. Love your wedge set up. It seems the 50, 54, 58 works the best with the G series irons in my experience.

 

When I started this thread I had no idea PING would name their irons just "G".

I have had them out for two range sessions and one round with all the warm weather we have been having in the Mid-Atlantic. So far I really like them. Now I just need the warm weather to stick around a little longer. Dropped into the low 40's today after mid 60's yesterday.

Except for hybrids, which I don't like no matter what brand, I use a complete ping G setup. Driver, 3-wood and 5-wood are all G SF Tec then the G irons 4-L. Before that I had a mix of various G20/G25/G30 irons and woods.

Long-time G-Man, first-time member. Had G2's for a long time, G15 driver and then got G's last summer. If someone could convince me I'd be better off with Glide wedges, I'd put those in my bag as well.

So after a stint with the ie1 and the Callaway apex I've gone back to the G25 irons. For me they are such a solid set of irons. Nice flight and inspire confidence in every shot. Also picked up a G30 driver and am really hitting some nice drives with it. Except for the putter I'm all Ping.

I opted for the G Series after picking the game up again after a 5 year break. I previously gamed a set of 2008 Big Bertha's. the new G's feel like razors in comparison. Once I decided on the G irons the rest of the bag followed suit. If there was a G cart bag I'd of had one as well;

-Ping G 3 fairway 14.5*

-Ping G crossovers 3, 4 & 5

(all the above have the Alta 70 stiff shaft)

-Ping G irons 6 to SW (AWT 2.0 R shafts)

-Ping Glide LW 58* (CFS Wedge shaft)

-Ping Sigma G Anser putter with Super Stroke 2.0 Pistol GT grip
