OBAN IZAWA in hand pic

Hi all,

Players who played a low spin/ forward cg driver looking for more forgiveness and accuracy....OBAN JUST GAVE YOU THE SOLUTION!

Mid high launch, mid spin, 67gr S flex and 3.6 degree torque...plus active tip design. All those are specs at least should help smooth swinger with light loading swing. They will gain an extra pop/kick at impact which translates to extra ball speed.

Cheers!

Joe

How does it compare to the Revenge? Thank you

I believe Revenge will have higher launch and more spin than the Isawa.

Thank you - And feel wish? Where would if fall? Also is it for the same type of swing as the Revenge i.e. a swinger or more aggressive hitter?

Thanks again!

Feel is very smooth like all Obans. I play the Isawa 55 in driver and 3 wd. In the 55, a smooth tempo type should do fine. Experiment with tee height -- higher tee = increased launch. The Isawa 65, I think, is for a faster or more aggressive swing than the 55. I prefer the Kiyoshi Purple 65 in the driver if going to that weight because it kicks so well. I have the Isawa 65 in a 5 wood, but won't post about it other than the above as I am going through a swing change.

Would you consider the Purple a better fit for a smooth swing/tempo than the Isawa or Revenge as far a feel and distance? Thank you

Let me ponder that question over the weekend for a full answer and get some swings in with the Isawa and Purple at the same time on a course for comparison. I am fairly smooth, not quick. But as to feel, Oban seems to have a "house" feel in all their shafts that I've hit (the 3 above) - smooth yet direct, but all differ a bit.The answer for you will depend on the numbers you get on a sim. I think the Revenge is almost the vanilla shaft to me -- so remarkably smooth that it does not seem remarkable, if that makes sense. The Purple kicks in with liveliness -- you see guys saying it can go left at times - I don't know about that. Will hit more balls with it and tell you what I see. The Isawa, depending on whether it's tipped in driver can be high-mid to mid launch, mid spin. My guy tipped it a tad - .25 or .5, I will have to check. My first reaction is to say I think if 65g is what you like, the Purple will be a favorite shaft, if that "kick" thing works for you. Wish I could find one at a decent price in 55g. Oh, I also have a Matrix Speed Rulz 50 A Type that I am trying out next week, if interested.

I've built a few of these for customers both in drivers and woods. Unlike the Devotion, the Isawa profile stays constant through the weight class. The Devotion profile is different in the 45-55g range vs the 65g & up. The Isawa is the softest tip profile in the Oban family. A player with a smooth tempo and mid release should fit into this nicely. To me, weight will be determined more by your overall strength. I wish they had a hybrid version of this shaft. I tend to use the Veylix Alpina 673 hybrid shaft as an option. Matches up nicely.

I hope to hit this tomorrow night against the purple, hb and hashimoto. Will also hit the veylix. Hit the hashimoto today on the range for the first time, man was it straight.

Hello what were your findings?

It seemed a little loose for me. In the driver the hashimoto gave me the best numbers. Followed by the Kiyoshi purple. Course I tried the Kiyoshi purple in a m2 fairway and it just didn't work on the course. On track man the isawa just wasn't as good as those two.

Now it could be really good in a fairway. It probably would have been a better fit for me then the Kiyoshi purple. Course I had a r15 Kiyoshi white combo that I never should have sold.

Did you tip the driver in the Isawa to make it a bit less active?

No it was at a fitting at Club champion. It was on a track man. Trust me I wanted it to work. It looks awesome.

Just asking because I have a sttif flex tipped .25 inches with a Callaway tip in the BST to play at 45 in - right after getting it, discovered I can't swing out of my shoes (only about 88-92 mph) - need an R flex.
