Pronunciation - Golf words

Just thinking of a few golf related words that I wasn’t sure how they were properly pronounced.

 

I’m sure there are a few other words golf related that people arent pronouncing correctly, but how are these pronounced.

 

SRIXON – sr*eye*xon or SrI* xon

 

NIPPON – n*ee*pon or Nip*on

 

 

any other words out there being pronounced incorrect

Shrix-on (Srixon)

Nee-pawn (Nippon)

Me-or-ugh (Miura)

Ace and Eagle are always spoken in the second and third person in the proper English, never in the first person.

You shot an amazing ace... second person... OK

He, she, they, shot an eagle... third person, OK

Never, I, shot an ace, I shot an eagle, this would be first person, and therefore would be wrong, at least from my experience...

I know that is not necessarily pronunciation, but just thought I would add a bit more to the subject, particularly from my freaking (pronounced free- king), or fracking (pronounced frah-king) golf experience concerning aces...

You can go golfing, just like you can go surfing, skiing, fishing etc.

In German speaking countries 90% of the people who play golf pronounce Titleist as "Titt-liste" like in "like".
About 60% call a score of +1 on a particular hole "boogie".

Lately, a few of my old friends have picked up golf. When they asked me what to do and what to avoid as beginners, one of the five basic points I told them was to avoid that ^^^^.

Also, -3 should not be pronounced "double eagle", as double -2 equates to -4.

When using the proper English, in the 1st person, you are immediately accused of Bragging and frowned upon.

That's why we, who could say it, let others mention it.

Announcers never say "double birdie" they call it "Eagle". As they should call an Albatross what it really is: an Albatross

[u]Double Par[/u] is a 6, 8, 10 on par 3, 4, 5.

We don't call a #1 Wood, a Driver Wood/Metal, it's a Driver.

Couldn't we keep it simpler, and call a Fairway (wood) a FAIRWAY, since they are now made out of metal?

As in: Driver, Fairway (3-5-7), Irons (2-9) etc.?

I used to care about all this, LMAO. Now? As long as I can
understand what people are saying that's good enough.

I used to go to a town in PA spelled Breinigsville. For years to
myself I pronounced it Bren igs ville. So one day I asked someone
local how it was pronounced. They said Brines ville. I said no,
it's Bren igs ville.....and left, haha.

Hey, if I lived in that town I would say it right.....but I don't so
screw it. I live in a small town spelled Tallassee. So people
see that and they say "so you live in Tallahassee". I say no,
where did you get that; can you read?

So I reserve the right to pronounce things the way I like.

A Japanese person would pronounce these words from Japan as:

Soo ree koo sone

Neep pone

Mee oo rah

That being said, while Nippon and Miura are actual Japanese words/names, Srixon is not. So I say go ahead and pronounce that however you think sounds good to you...

I you want to pronounce it German, the closest way to write it for English speakers is Loypold.

I dont know why any of those things are not possible, but ive never met anybody who said those things either. Golfing is regularly used, understood, and accepted. And as far as I know, there is no linguistic reason that it is not a word.
