Thoughts on EE

Hey Gang, I have a quick swing thought I wanted to share....I am so sorry if I am flooding it with another EE thread, but I am hoping this is a little different in the sense of approaching the issue. Anyways here it goes.

 

EE is basically the extension of the hips towards the ball. Now what if we eliminated the possibility of extending the hips by standing straight up?

 

 

*Edit* My Driver has the most exaggerated EE. My Irons are pretty good

 

So I have noticed something in many of my videos. I put the Go Pro on for 1 hour straight. When I take a practice swing I am standing pretty straight no knee flex and just a slight bend at the waste. When I swing I have no early extension. The moment I go into my setup, Knee flex, more waist bend and I take my regular swing....yups you guessed it, my EE comes right back. Even when I try all kinds of weird sitting on the stool, zipper away etc etc.

 

So then I said well I will just swipe at the ball like I am just doing my practice swing. Instead of going into my normal setup. It took a couple of tries but then I noticed I was hitting it a little better. Based on the Go Pro Videos I was not Extending as much and keeping the tush line stable because it was some what extended already so there was no more "Extra extension"

But for you Swing gurus. Can I ask is this a bandaid? Does this make more sense? with you driver to stand more straight less knee flex and waist bend the natural thing is to straighten what you bend so if you dont bend it at all you wont want to early extend?

EE is a body reaction to hit the ball when you are out of postion.

Your baxkswing is too long and you look like you tilt toward the target. Then your lower body fires a little early out of sequence.

If you didn't EE, you might not hit the ball.

In practice swing, your backswing is much shorter and your body isn't reacting to the ball.

I did notice the back swing to long I tried cutting it down but it doesnt stop the EE, as for the the tilt I think its due to the over swing right? As for the lower body firing there is no "exact" timing sequence to that right?


Lastly my question is, why the does my Practice swing seem fine, but my regular swing get all messed up? The only reasons I can think of, as you mention 1 was the shorten back swing, but the other reason is I seemingly stand taller during my practice swing? Does that make any sense?

Your body is doing the EE to hit the ball. It is a compensation.

When you take a practice swing you're not hitting the ball so you body doesn't have to compensate so no EE.

Gotcha......Ok so as stated I took an actual swipe at the ball like I was practicing swinging and it turned out better...... I know I am answering my own question but I guess from now on I dont setup how I normally do and just swipe at it like I am taking a practice swing and all is right in never never land? Or again is this a bandaid?

Bandaid. Setup correctly, with the proper amount of hip bend and knee flex and fix the things in your swing that are causing the EE.

I have spent a lot of time with bandaids to EE (like what you originally suggest as a fix). Once you figure out the proper setup and BS that maintains tilt, try Monte's 'zipper away' move. Wait, don't try...IMPLEMENT it and it should solve EE and provide all of the tilt (and more) you need at impact. Best!

So I did some "testing" on the course yesterday.

I didnt have enough time to apply specific methods as I wanted to see if my band-aid made a difference or not.

This is the the thing I know that you all say that I need to get into better position etc etc....but I cant fight the fact that it feels unnatural or it feels weird to me. What I mean is I go to the tee box, I setup get into my "said" setup and then give a whack at it.

Where yesterday, I put the ball down, I stood almost straight up and down, and went into my swing. The difference that I felt was that since I was standing straight up, the only way I could go at the ball was to "Sit/squat" through the ball. I actually hit a couple a ton and straight.

normally I would already be in a slight waist bend, knee flex and naturally the opposite where I would feel like i need to stand up in the swing because i was sitting/squatting already in a sense.

You Tubing always brings up great Monte Videos and other good EE exercises, but its generally the same and when I try to do them it works for a little while but then I go back to how I was because it doesnt feel natural.

In any case I will keep it going to see what I can do to and some updates.
