Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse/Albany "Tournament" 2015

Hey guys

 

Was looking at getting something together for this spring/summer for us. Or anyone who is from here that would want to make a trip home....

 

My idea would be to try and set something up at Turning Stone.

 

they have a few packages for stay and play and also replays. I realize that 2 nights may be a stretch for some people but if we get enough we can conceivably get 3-4 rounds in. Or if 1 round is more doable then that is good too. I don't want to bite off too much, especially for those with families.

 

The cool thing about Turning Stone is that you get discounted replays the same day and they have 3 courses. Rates for 1 round are about $120-$150 for Shenendoah and Kaluhyat and $200-$250 for Atunyote. You can replay either of the first 2 for $50 or Atunyote for $100. We could play the cheaper of the 2 first then play Atunyote for $100 right after or even take a break and play in the afternoon.

 

Obviously this is in its infancy stages but if we can get a few foursomes it would be a great time. Any other ideas toss them out.... Also, I would be interested in doing some home/home with anyone that is willing to make a day trip.

 

Just for info, there are 2 packages for stay and play:

• Two nights accommodations at the Hotel, Tower or The Lodge
  
• One round of golf at Atunyote
  
• One round at Shenendoah
  
• One round at Kaluhyat
  
• Unlimited replays on same day at Shenendoah and Kaluhyat
  
• $100 replays at Atunyote
  
• Complimentary golf at Sandstone Hollow (this is a par 3 course... we could do a "Masters Weekend type tournament"
  

• Overnight accommodations at the Hotel, Tower or The Lodge
  
• Unlimited golf after 3pm at Shenendoah or Kaluhyat on arrival afternoon
  
• 18 holes of golf at Shenendoah or Kaluhyat next morning
  
• Lunch on the Turn and a drink at the 19th hole
  
• Complimentary access to the Tower Fitness Center
  
• Guaranteed 3pm Check-in

Theoretically we could do 3 rounds with just 1 overnight stay. One round in the afternoon on day of arrival then two rounds the next day

This would be worth the 2 1/2 hour drive.. my wife has been to several Physical Education conferences there and has told me several times that I should go golf there..!

I'm in! I'm only about an hour out, so I'm pretty flexible, the only week that wouldn't work for me would be the last week in June.

I'm also totally down for anyone that wants to do a home/home, I play out of Webster, and the East course is worth the drive. (Plus, we could grab lunch/dinner down by the lake afterwards)

Rochester, NY here. My bro-in-law, myself, and a few friends were thinking of the Turning Stone deal as well, so we'd probably be in. First week in August is a bust for me though, as my boy in Seattle is getting married and I'm a groomsman.

Graymulligan, I work at the Xerox plant in Webster, love the East course. It's still one of the best deals in the ROC.

as the off season comes to a close I will start asking for solid numbers and if people want to set it up as a tournament format, stroke play, skins, match play etc. I've played in skins formats where people would get skins in their group and as a whole. But first and foremost it will just be a good time.... and if people would rather it just be a friendly get together I am cool with that too.

Hey DJ (Waves slightly east from the U of R campus)! There are actually quite a few Rochester WRX'ers locally, and most are really good guys.

I could see us being able to put together at least 3 or 4 foursomes relatively easily given how many people are on this board live Upstate, hopefully.

I'd be happy to help out with organizing/administering anything. As a former tournament director, I kinda have some idea how to do these things, lol.

I also know many of the guys at TS, so would be happy to see if I could get any deals.

Also, the great thing about Atunyote is that when you are on the course you will be hard pressed to see more than 1 or 2 more groups on it. Plus the practice facilities are top notch as well. They are working with the PGA again to bring back a tournament there.

I'll definitely play. The NYS Am will be at Kaluyhat this year (hopefully I will qualify) so I plan to play there a few times this year. The NYS Amateur Series will have their opener at Shen and Kaluyhat in the spring. Can't wait.

I play out of Drumlins. We have a reciprocal with Webster. Sounds like a home/home in the making!

yessir you KNOW im in for this. btw as far as the nysga am series I feel like kaluhyat is the way to go. shenendoah is the easier of the 2 courses, but as long as you know your yardages kaluhyat is point and shoot. what do you guys think about a 4some of ghost, joey, myself and my buddy mike out there? could be a great day!

I would love to find some folks to play with in the Rochester area... i'm moving to Rochester from Pittsburgh in about 3 weeks.... I'll be in a hotel for a couple weeks, but it looks like we're buying a house in Spencerport, so I hope to be able to meet up and play with you guys frequently throughout the summer. I have an 11 month old, so its not always easy, but I'm optimistic!

Welcome to the 'hood! Im in Syracuse which is about an hour from you. Ravenwood is always a nice place to meet up as it's only about 45 minutes from me. Greystone is great as well. IMHO one of the nicer public courses I've played.

if you're going to be a resident of ny, keep a valid handicap and look into the nys amateur series events in your area and state wide. they registration opens on 2/16! check out NYSGA.ORG for anything you might be interested and welcome to the empire state (of corruption)

Thanks - i have a current handicap of 0.6 via the GHIN from when I was a member of a local CC in 2014, but I don't know if that will transfer..... not sure i'm that good anymore, as the little one has dug into my free time for golf, but no big deal.... I also thought i saw somethign online once about a local amateur tour around Rochester that plays each weekend at two different courses.... know anything about that? suggestions?
