Carbon Putters (Merged)

My initial impressions off these putters are the same as the one poster above, they look cheap. They have absolutely no character. I assume you can get putter heads milled pretty cheap nowadays. The Finish looks to be some super durable Teflon or something. This matte black finish looks cheap. I'm not saying $50 cheap but just from looks alone, they have a long way to go if they want to compete with mills, morgan, Lamont and the other boutique putter makers who 95% of the golfing world have no knowledge of.

Here is mine in the sun, kinda does look like Teflon :) and I want all my clubs to look like Teflon because I really like this finish. I find it very comparable to Scotty's PVD, same type of luster. No glare at address just trying to get as much sun as possible on it to show the sheen. Personally, looks great in my opinion and holding up way better than PVD.

They look pretty good. There's no face balanced blade putters so they won't work for me.

My $20 Carbite ZH is still in the bag.
I still play my ZH that I bought in 2000 for $150.00 off of an infomercial on the tube. Bought a 33", cut it down to 29", and have recently put a SuperStroke Slim 3.0 grip on it. Played it for a couple rounds at the end of season last year, and I like it. The ZH is actually considered a mallet style, even though it looks like a blade style putter. Is Carbite still around?????

Any lefty love? And what's the price point around?
$290 For The Production Model, $350 for custom milled. I asked about the custom options and they are available but not on the site yet. Custom Milled means you can get a site dot instead of a sight line for instance, alignment milling is up to you or not have it at all. Face milling options include normal mill, sound slot, or groove face. Paint fill and engraved name, initials also in that scope of custom milled. Looks like lefty is milled to order, looks like they are not stocking them quite yet.

Well, two answers one is simple one is a little more complex.

1. Face milling technique (grooves, deep mill etc) you are removing material so it will influence over all weight
2. One of the best opportunities to increase head weight would be to make the top line "more chunky" because that is a lot of surface area to add weight. So its a fine balance between looks and overall head weight.
In my experience with custom putter builds I've been a part of, neither of these are true.

If you order a putter at your desired weight (i.e. 360 grams), with a particular face milling (deep milling, maybe), any putter maker worth his salt can make that happen for you with no problems. They just start with a heavier blank, so the decrease in weight, due to face milling, is a non-factor.

Also, while it's easy to add weight by making the topline "more chunky" (i.e. a thicker face), this added weight can be controlled by the depth of the pocket. Byron Morgan's DH89 has a thicker topline, and I see plenty of those in the 340-350 gram range. My personal one is at 358 grams, and I've also seen them come in at 365 grams, so it can be controlled pretty easily. There are plenty of other ways to control head weight, so you can get the weight and look that you want.

What GolfProTJ said was that "the only way a putter at 370g would work would be the deepest mill ever." I was asking the question to get his perspective. As it pertains to a putter maker actually building/shaping a putter, head weight and face milling are two aspects that can be independently controlled. You can basically get any combo of the two that you desire. TJ's opinion must be based on his own personal preferences and feel... I was curious about those.
Correct...in every aspect. TJ's comments are hard to understand but perhaps he just messed up on his wording. A 370 g putter is a 370 g putter. It can have a smooth, fine, or deep milled face. It can also have a thin or chunky top line. The fact is the maker manipulates the weight and the feel by other means such as Mikey Town mentioned in order to meet the specific weight and sound/feel specifications.

From the pics alone I think these look like very nice work. I would love to see and roll one in person before I made any judgement concerning their design and quality.
You're all correct! Depending on the putter maker... most use a combination of above ways to influence head weight. To the original comment, I was going to say the same thing... a 370g putter is a 370g putter.

 • 3 weeks later...

Hey Guys, I saw this forum last week...For the last couple months I've been wanting to stop off at their shop once I heard this company was in town. So you guys motivated me to get in there. Anyway, stopped in today and come to find out they do a lot more than just Carbon Putters. In fact, Carbon is their new line and is only a year old. They also have another company called Putter Lounge, which pretty much offers 1 of 1 putters designed by you! Putterlounge.com is the website. I now have a Del Mar style putter with Indigo finish on the way with some really cool engravings and a clear blueish shaft. It will take about 4 weeks to receive as they have to order the block etc. I don't want to say how much I'm paying as they're not advertising this on their website for some reason but contact them to get a quote. In my opinion, it is the best custom deal you can get period.

Pretty cool company run by twin brothers. They previously were and still are a refinishing iron company. Here are some pics. I didn't take any pics of the putters because they only had one in stock because as putters are finished they're shipped out. I told one of them about this thread and they should chime in...hopefully he will.

I've been seeing the advertisement for Carbon Putters pop up on my Facebook newsfeed and finally decided to check them out. Anyone ever see one in person and try them out? Anyone have one? Just looking for opinions on them. I've been happily gaming a SeeMore FGP Mallet this year but have been wanting a custom Newport-style putter for some time now (leaning heavily towards Edel). Anyways, these start at $290 for stock putters and $350 for Custom Shop ones. I'm not sure if that is a good deal for what you get compared to the cost of a custom Edel.

I have one right now. I live close to their shop and they are milling a sight line in my Vera 1w. They let me demo on of their putters and so far I really like it. Their shop is small with one c&c machine and quality looks great. It's a Newport 2 style with a tri sole, which I really like. I'm playing tomorrow morning we'll see how it performs on course. I would put the line with a Scotty or Betti as far as feel, as its milled from a solid block of carbon steel.

What is the head weight and grip weight of your test model? Did you get a chance to try one with a sound slot? Of the choices on their website, I would be most interested in the Ringo 1/4 since it is advertised as more face balanced.

I checked out the website and their work looks great. I hope they will offer something in a heel shafted model soon.
I saw one in the shop the other day not sure if it was a custom or carbon. I'll try and grab a pic. Looked like a golo 3 or odyssey #9. My putter should be done soon.

Played 9 today and was really impressed with the putter. Great feel and really rolled the ball well. I'm not a fan of Newport/answer style putters. They look great and feel great I just don't put that well with that style.

I've owned multiple scotty's and putted with all the major manufactures milled putters and the carbon is on par with all of them. I'd say I like the carbon more then most due to the tri sole, which really sets up square. If your thinking of trying one id give it a shot, I think you'll like it.

Thanks for the link. Nothing showed up on the first page when I searched before starting this thread and I assumed these putters had not been talked about.

I called and spoke to one of them, Dan I think. The 340g Ringo on the site is actually 355g. I was torn because 340 is too light and 370 is too heavy...hence the call. And you can order it in raw carbon which I'm going to do next week. I'm going to do my own paint fill.

Dan is a good guy. Here are pics of the putter I had them custom make. I'll post a separate thread later.

Nice updated pics. I'm a custom putter fan as well as a multiple Scotty Cameron owner and I quite like the aesthetics of these.

I hope everyone thrives in the equipment market as I really like the overwhelming choices and great products out there now.

Some of the excellent putter producers that come to mind would give these a run for their money like Lajosi, Manncrafted, Slighter Golf, Scratch Golf, Machine, Xenon, TP Mills, Piretti (but some like Byron are getting out there for price) but I hope they all survive & prosper!

Like a few have said, the majority of golfers are unfamiliar with many of these brands.
