So, my mp 5s and mp 33s are gone, but it needed to happen. Before u feel too bad for me, ill be playing the mp 29s or mp 4s till friday when my set, -trade plus cash- arrives, and i do believe they will be fantastic.

Shot an 81 yesterday btw, had a 329 yard drive(very good for me) on a short par 4 that was 18 feet short of green...that must be what dustin johnson feels like...this was all in swirling thunderstorm conditions...my partners quit on the 14th, but i finished with the scene from caddyshack running through my mind as i witnessed lightning streak to the ground across the skyline. Still, in pouring rain, finished bogey, par, par, par with 2 missed birdie putts...the mp 29s are pretty incredible..ive never had an iron that aided the draw so much, really incredibly easy to work though i did have to fight a high ball flight in that weather.

My nike 440 flex is gonna go on hiatus since the sldr jdm has been just so perfect the last few rounds, not to mention i am destroying the ball with it. Gonna post pics friday (hopefully) and i think our lil group here will be pleased

I hate to say it, but...wait for it...by the physics (!) it is more dangerous to have an all metal, no plastic blade in a lightning storm than a CB with plastic in the head. The all metal head will theoretically conduct electricity better.

Nice round Sir ed. How do those mp29s feel in comparison to the 4s, 5s, and 33s?

Sound is different. The "mizuno feel" has definetely become more of a softer mushier feel...these were more of a still soft, yet crisp in a you can almost feel the ball compress way...i dont know how to say it, but it seemed like u could really feel the ball better..the sound is higher pitched than the 4s, and 33s (sound is like my physics deninny-classical piano for 30 years)..

I feel like every shot with the 6 to pw is like "oh man did that feel great," but i had a little trouble puring the 2 iron, though it got surprisingly good distance still, just a salvador daliesque flight trajectory

Really interesting perspective on the 29s. Thanks. When I saw the design up close with that set I ogled the other day, it instantly looked like the best Mizuno blade design I'd ever seen. And I am a huge fan of the 33s, 4s, and 67s. It could be that the Mizuno carbon steel has changed over time, but also that design is going to contribute to that solid feel. Man I wanna hit the 29s now!

Every blade, by different design and type/quality of carbon steel, is going to have a different feel, and that feel is going to produce a different sound, no question. If it feels mushy, it will sound mushy. If it feels crisp, it will sound crisp. So I absolutely agree that if you have a good ear for sound, then you absolutely should use it as much as literal feel in order to gauge the quality of your shots and blades. And it is just another sensory input that enables you to hear the quality of your swing in 'high definition', LOL but you gotta be using blades, of course.

And a classical pianist? 30 years? Wow that is impressive. You definitely have an aural advantage in golf and I'll bet you have a good tempo swing and short game from good hands. LOL I know this because my wife plays piano and harp. She is a lights out short putter.

Also I noticed that those wear patterns of yours are oval shaped along the blade length...LOL by the physics that entire blade bar is a solid wall that the ball can compress against and so there is acceptable margin along its length for solid contact.

Yeah Northview has the Ridge and the Canal. The GVO was really great. I remember seeing Payne Stewart swing the golf club there and Mike Weir going up 18 to win. That was something. Lots of great memories. We are blessed around Vancouver. Can`t wait to get back there this summer.

Wow to have seen Payne Stewart is special. That is really cool. He had a golden swing and heart.

Nice wear marks, Sir Edward. I don't keep my sets of irons long enough to create wear marks...

OK, that's not entirely true, but it's difficult to get wear marks hitting mostly off mats. My 60* has a little, as I get to practice with that on grass around practice greens sometimes at courses and better driving ranges, but otherwise my irons are in great shape. My 52* has a rust patina that comes off slightly during a practice session, but then a day later it's back. It's noticeably towards the heel.

I read on an old thread here you can find some Callaway MBs and prototypes cheap? Does anyone know if these irons exist and what model they are referring to?

buy them ;)

It makes a certain sense. Primary golf ball in the days of the MP29/MP14, that would have been likely used by someone playing the MP29 or MP14, was a wound ball. If the club is too soft, you wouldn't feel the shot.

A modern analogy would be hitting a Wilson Staff Fifty Elite, or Duo, with such an iron. Unless you happen to have a few wound balls lying around.

The above part of your post brings up an interesting point...

There is a theory that sound influences feel, and some go so far as to say feel *is* sound.

I didn't buy into it at first, but it is somewhat interesting. I've noticed differences in clubs hitting indoors at 2nd Swing to outdoors. Or the somewhat notorious first edition of Nike RZN balls, LOL.

Would be easy to test with ear plugs or the like. :)

I have to hit the road for a meeting, so I'll have to stop after tossing out that teaser. :)

Sound is feel and feel is sound. Sound is (audible) vibration moving air, feel is vibration moving through an object. All things have a resonate frequency.

They are completely different sensory inputs to the brain, BUT...their source is from the same thing: the collision between the ball and clubface, so there is a unique relationship between the two based on the ball and clubface. Impact is a violent collision and when it happens, the molecules and micro structures of the two deform and "crunch". We literally feel and hear this same crunch. Same source, different sensation. Each is going to be unique based on different materials (including their structures).

But vibration is also touch. I have often pondered full earplugs and the Bbs vs other irons I have and see how in a title mute environment they all feel. It is a worthwhile and easy enough to do experiment....

Every object in the universe has a resonate frequency that when impacted will transmit the energy at an amplified sine wave frequency. Apply force, i.e. hit it, It vibrates....you can feel the vibration by touch......the vibration also moves the surrounding air......if the resonate frequency is from 20-20,000 hertz, humans can hear it. The resonate frequency is determined by it's mass density, shape and heady stuff like molecular structure.

Ok small blades on their way. Also for any interested there's a guy with a post in the jdm section with vegas, yuyuris, ezones for sale. I almost bought the vegas mb-01 and yuyuri flatbacks but decided to get the bb. Good guy and good gear at decent prices if anyone is curious....

PS: I might clear house ...Honma 727v, shinagawa, even my beloved Mac vfoils. Just have BB and Mizuno 59's.

I'm so/so on the stuff. I'm fine just dipping Cope throughout my round. Once the roach comes out, I lose the feel of the finer things and putt long.

I toss a new dip after every three putt...figuring the potency has warn off.

Dip wins every tango I get into with it. I'll either buzz so hard I throw up after trying to take it our OR buzz so hard I can't relax on putts. I'll stick to my camel snus to feel like I'm a member of the club and be on my way.

I grew up in rural Arkansas where people chewed tobacco and dipped snuff a lot. There was this one country woman, mean as a wild hog, who dipped and had that stuff running down the creases of her chin.

That's some ugly stuff right there. Whew .
