Blade users thread (NO DEBATING CLUBHEADS! NO Buy Sell Trade!)

That's funny! Just mount 'em on the wall. (I have a friend who has this beautiful set a Agrind blades in copper. They are really beautiful. But he decided he wanted to play CBs. So he has them in his office in a prominent place where he can just enjoy seeing them!!)

Seriously, I may get iron head covers (ah, the shame, the total shame). Not so much to protect them, but first 'brand' club I bought, a Scotty, with its SC putter cover - someone lifted it out of my bag as I went down to get range balls. One of the real reasons I bought a lot of lessor known JDM clubs was to avoid name recognition. But I won't play with head covers on. The bag appeal of these beauties is too nice not to enjoy.

Modus 105 S

I grew up in rural Arkansas where people chewed tobacco and dipped snuff a lot. There was this one country woman, mean as a wild hog, who dipped and had that stuff running down the creases of her chin.

That's some ugly stuff right there. Whew .

I've got you one better.

I played minor league baseball for a couple of years. I was sent to Boise, Idaho for a rehab assignment during my second year. A bunch of the guys on the team got together on night to drink beer, play cards, and hang out with some of the local co-eds. About halfway through the evening, a very beautiful girl from Boise State came in with some of her friends. She saw me dipping at the card table and asked "what are you dipping?" I assumed I would respond and then she would tell me how disgusting the habit was. Instead, when I told her Copenhagen, she said she preferred Kodiak. One of my teammates slid a can across the table in her direction. She picked it up, packed it, and threw in a very large dip of Kodiak. I didn't know whether to be impressed or repulsed!!!

Shifting gears... playing golf. I have been doing this exercise regimen to increase swing speed. It's a combo of rolling muscle groups, mobility and balance exercises, swing for speed exercises and strength exercises. Great workout for everything. Posture, back, just generally feeling good.

The thing is, speed (at least, for me) requires a decent set of mechanics to support it. So as I focus on speed, my whole swing is rapidly evolving (positively!). Better plane, better impact position, etc. The main thing is I am pretty close to a good plane after transition. Now I just need to get the r arm more in front of the body - and I am almost there - so no flip, a lot of compression. But about 1/10 swings, I just smoke the ball now, for me. I am not exaggerating when I say 2-3 clubs longer than when I started. Now the process is to get it from 1/10 to 3/10 to 7/10, etc.

Ok small blades on their way. Also for any interested there's a guy with a post in the jdm section with vegas, yuyuris, ezones for sale. I almost bought the vegas mb-01 and yuyuri flatbacks but decided to get the bb. Good guy and good gear at decent prices if anyone is curious....

PS: I might clear house ...Honma 727v, shinagawa, even my beloved Mac vfoils. Just have BB and Mizuno 59's.

I am always curious when someone pops their cherry with these....I remember when I got mine, I was so skeptical, I was expecting just another iron and I was a sucker...

Miura is the real deal, and Miura feels like Miura.

Congrats, curious as to How you feel about them.!

I'm so/so on the stuff. I'm fine just dipping Cope throughout my round. Once the roach comes out, I lose the feel of the finer things and putt long.

I toss a new dip after every three putt...figuring the potency has warn off.

Dip wins every tango I get into with it. I'll either buzz so hard I throw up after trying to take it our OR buzz so hard I can't relax on putts. I'll stick to my camel snus to feel like I'm a member of the club and be on my way.

Sadly none of these delights are available in the UK, so I have to go out with my trusty packet of Marlboro instead. Must admit I'd be utterly lost without them...

Had an epiphany after reading the past two pages of posts. I've never played with a golfer who was carrying a set of blades or was carrying a smoke (of any variety) at any point during the round.

22 years of play and not once.

I have played with someone who dipped. He was discreet but it was an odd round.

Yep. That's the plan. Take 'em off on the 1st tee, put 'em back on after the 18th green. Don't want these to walk away or get unnecessary dings.

I go a step further and put incorrect headcovers on mine...when im playing my byron or one of my scottys, i put a ping tr headcover on....when im playing, really just the m1 and last year the ls tec, i put an old aeroburner cover on...my irons have an intentionally horrid cover, though the inside are nice and protective....

Had a bag stolen back in the day at the range at sportsmans...learned a expensive lesson that day...who cares what other golfers think....if u care more about how ur bag looks than plays, u probably are in over ur gaming head...regardless, when i see a guy with iron covers, im usually pretty happen...just increases the chance a used set i get will be in better condition, one bag at a time.

Btw, congrats on the bbs! Someday ill have them...after my girls go to college, etc....my oldest is 7. :(

Me, neither. I did play with some ex Navy Seals ... one guys gets 4 double tequilas at the turn. His buddy doesn't want any, so he of course drinks them all. Gets kinda slurry. Meanwhile the guys behind us drive into us for the second time so I yell at them to cut it out (the Seals weren't good golfers). The drunk guy hits the ball back at them and here they come. One burly guy starts to get out of his cart, and the drunk guy says, 'you get out of that cart and I'm gonna fugg you up.' I started looking for the back door, being a coward who's squeamish at the sight of mangled innards. Fortunately the other Seal cooled things down.

Maybe they should take up the leaf...

Well wmb....a good golf partner would have placed the ball down, lasered, stood over the ball, slightly hovering the 5 wood head over the grass, couple of wiggles, nice easy start of the back swing, hips turning at the apex, eyes and chin still down on the ball, wrists fall back, shoulders start down, wrists follow, knees bend a tad, hands come down, wrists in position, un c0ck, shaft lean in place, head makes contact on urethane, follow through is perfect, flight starts low, builds high, draws in 3yds, starts descent, lands hard @ 256yards, hard on the face of the passive advocator of violence.

:D hope that was more annoying to read than it was to write. My favorite part was the fictional 5 wood off the deck at 256yards

This is my range set that spends infinity in my trunk. All my pws develope that circle while the 7 always seem bigger.

That pw one is probably my best work though

Pw, 7, 6

I figure if I hit sandy range balls for a couple of years, I can satin-ize the chrome on the face without putting any wear on the sweetspot. Then I'll sell them to a Japanese businessman. Seems pretty airtight to me.

Clearly you've not been following the debate that defines the one common fundamental for all good golfers with this lie. It's the proper form for that 5th double tequila. The drinking elbow has to be in flexion at the transition.

I ended up finding a great deal on a clean 2-9 set of MP-14s to add to my rotation. I think that I will like the firmer feel and sound characteristics of the 14s, and the lack of off set should work.

WMblake: That Nippon Modus 105 S shaft is what I'd like to re-shaft the 14s with. I'm really liking the 970 shafts that came with my set of 690.MBs, and thought it would give a similar feel as it is a similar weight and kick point. Either that or the 1050s. Those Nippon 970 shafts are super light and have great feel with some NDMC midsize grips on the MBs.

Great thread here.

I have been playing the 120s in some Honmas, which every fitter thinks is too heavy and stiff for me, but they are wrong. They always try to put me in 80 gram graphite (which I have done a bunch) So the 105s are a admission by me that maybe a little lighter might be the sweet spot. I just got these, put them in Mizuno mp59s - but I am going to swap them out. I think weight of the shaft is a big deal and steel makes a head come alive.

So I wouldn't fret about the shaft being too light as long as you keep up the SW that you like to feel. SW is going to be what your hands feel the most over the total club weight. And per the law of conservation of energy and also given the same work that you put into the swing, when you swing an overall lighter club you will for sure generate higher clubhead speed than a heavier club.

When I switch to my NS Pro 850 shafted BBs from my heavier 950s on my satin BBs, I gain almost a half a club length. The 850s are stiff and the 950s are regular, so flex may play into it, but also for sure I can feel the lighter weight which also contributes to the distance gain. And then when I switch to my 105g Rifle 5.0s with Retro TB heads, I lose a club distance due to the heavier weight of both the shaft and heads.

But that said, a club that is lighter than what you are used to may throw off your swing rhythm and tempo, so there is still an optimal total club weight and SW for every golfer. Too light may not be as easy to control and keep on a steady swing path as a heavier or heavier SW club.

I won't be surprised if loft for loft, that you gain distance going to those 105s from 120s. And with the BB heads you are going to be compressing the ball better too. LOL and catching the ball more cleanly. And cutting through turf and grass faster. And working the ball easier.

The way steel loads and unloads and also the way it transmits vibrations is what makes the head come alive. Graphite has the advantage of being lighter and less harsh feeling, but it also numbs or dulls how the head feels.

I know that's the theory and it makes sense but the weight and swingweight effect how I swing the club and my sense of what swing is required - I know I swing easier and slower with lighter weights and swing weights and hit the ball shorter. The 105s may be optimal.

And flex plays a role too! If you have a light shaft, in general you should get it stiffer than what you would play in a heavier shaft. If you go too light without increasing the flex, you *can* overpower the shaft with too much angular acceleration and this will put the shaft in a constant state of flex throughout the swing and it will never unload into the ball at impact. If a shaft is too flexible, you can lose distance and control because of this too.
