Finally got around to shafting these 33s. Bought the heads on ebay about a year ago and finally put them together. Played these irons in college and foolishly sold them.. couldn't pass up a near mint set.

I forgot I had this 2-Pw set. I bought them years ago on a whim, put them in the garage and forgot about them and found them again doing an oil change on the bike this evening. Debating whether to shaft them up or not 🤔

I think I may have posted here about playing some local tournaments. In the first three so far this year, I've gone 1st, 4th, 1st (to go with a 1st and 2nd in the tourneys I played last year). The first one was at a real nice old club in Uji City, just south of Kyoto. The last two have been east of Kyoto in the mountains of Kameoka. Been striking the ball decently, but the last round I hit 14 greens. Just can't putt to save my life. I think I'm averaging 3 3-putts a round. That part gets demoralizing.

 

Up until now, I've been rocking my trust MR23 CBs, but I am about to make the switch over to MP4s. I'm going to try them with the S200 shaft they have now, but I'm also considering putting in some soft stepped x-100s or some Modus 105x I have laying around. Problem with modus is getting the grips right... I am pretty picky about all this ish, so it's kind of a pain to get it all together.

 

Luckily I am going to Canada for a month and that should give me some time to acclimatize to the Mizunos... Going to play Greywolf GC, maybe Tobiano and I can probably get out for one more outing with old friends, maybe Ledgeview, this was the home course to recent Canadian Open winner, Nick Taylor and his friend who was tackled on the 18th. My buddy is managing the place, so I should get a deal... Haha.

 

I have one more game on the 4th of July at Kyoto Country Club. I think it'll be only my second non-tournament round of the year, but the guy setting up might have us in some club event... I dunno.

The first pic is a hole I call Hail Mary. There is nowhere to lay up. You can see the edge of the green in the top right. I aimed it at the right edge of the bunker on the right and hit a cut just short of the green. It says it's something like 330, but I think it's a lot shorter if you go over the greenery.

 

The next one is the 10th. I hit a nice driver there too. hit a little cut that started between the two little trees in the left side of the fairway. Had a 5 iron in and managed my only bird of the day.

It's the tee from the tips. It's build on a narrow ledge and I guess being under a lot of trees, it's just impossible to have grass. I think that's the only tee like that at that particular course.

I have discovered that you can shoot Between 80-84 so many different ways it seems impossible.  3 birdies, no problem just remove some pars and find a way to make 3 more bogeys……5 doubles, it’s cool you will play the other 13 like a local muni scratch.   It always seems to work.  It’s like you can just pencil in 82 when you start then choose your own adventure on how to get there!

For Craz-e, I was rolling it. Watching golf this weekend.   Here is my Studio 1 that I sent to Sasaya San to customize.  The story is this was my first real putter.  I learned how to go from a scared bad putter to a respectable one who thinks they can make everything.  The putter had nothing to do with it, I don’t putt my best with it, but it was the putter I had when I spent countless hours in college on local practice greens trying To understand how to read lines, how to control speed, and how to just putt….plus it was free entertainment.  So if I was Giving any stick the golds treatment, this was for sure it.  
 

Anyway, if I am sending one to Japan, may as well send 2!  I sent this and another (I won ebay auction while wife was giving Birth To my first) to Golds, as they had sentimental meaning to me and I was about to make them really expensive one offs.  
 

The Cameron I had him put the “T “ alignment on even though a blade, it’s awesome actually on this, had them take it from 330 to 360 (ended up 358 I think) and the finish, which photos can’t show well enough, but is a matte black pearl (black chrome) look on top, and high shine Black pearl on sole and face.  The weights are typical Golds over the top. 
 

I sent photos of the existing club and in paint marked up what I wanted and golds did it all 100%, I mean, the weights,  the “T” on a blade, a true real fabricator of putters, if I am paying and I want it they will do it, which is similar to my line of business and I really appreciate that small niche business level of true custom.  
 

*before any aficionados notice the head cover isn’t a genuine scotty.  My policy is F genuine scotty head covers and their cost, a Chinese knock off From yahoo Japan that says “Japan only” instead of that stupid a** “tour only” and Sakura blossoms is more My speed.

Reshafted these old Nike VR TW’s with Steelfiber i95 regular shafts… the lighter shafts make me swing smoother and I’m really liking this setup.

Did another head to head at the range today... Nike VR TW vs 1986? Titleist Tour Model blades...  Man, I don't know what it is but those old Titleist irons just feel amazing and I can't miss with them.  They shouldn't be as easy to hit as they are but for some reason I just get along with them.  The Nikes did great but the Titleists were just better in every way except they are punishing if you hit it fat.  I swear they have negative bounce and they just dig when they touch the ground, vs the Nikes have some bounce and you can get away with a slightly fat shot.

Those Nike VR TW are disgusting……great. Choice on the steel fibers too.   My buddy just got some in srixons and I only hit A couple but he said they felt better than the modus and I am a known fan of modern graphite in irons.

 

Pretty cool blade Set to have as time goes on for sure….

I'm a sweeper, and really struggle with older irons that have a sharp edge.  When I built up my set of those same Titleist Tour Model Irons, I put on a bit of a leading edge relief.  Makes a world of difference for me.  I'm going to be doing the same to a couple other sets of blades I'm building.  And fyi, I tend to buy them very cheap because they have issues with the chrome, and lots of nicks/scratches.  I'm not stripping and grinding on nice irons.

 

And I agree with you, I have no business hitting these little blades as well as I do.  I'm enjoying them so much I'm going to build up the 2, 3, and 4 iron that came with the set.  With the light/soft shaft I'm using, I'm getting lots of elevation with the 5-iron, so I'm thinking I stand a chance of actually being able to hit the 2-4.

Very nice. I have a 2-PW set of Tour Models in the garage that I pull out every once in a while -- they are 1985 models, and look identical to those.

 

I put some newer Tour Elevate shafts on them, and they are fun to hit -- but hard on my wrists because of the digging when you catch one heavy. They were the sticks I developed my swing with, and will never get rid of them. I think I paid $100 on ebay back in '98 or so.

 

Not quite as playable as the MP33s I am gaming now, but I still love them.

As far as I know, Miura never made the MB101 in lefty. These look incredible and I will be hitting them first thing tomorrow.
