"spring solstice" 🫠

Classic r/golf. Beautiful headcover though. The Mizuno representative at the demo day this spring told me he barely missed out on getting one (it was limited edition, so if not this one then one similar) and was sad as hell about it, which I had to agree.

Been playing 681's w/ Rifle X, The 681's were purchased NIB for $500, so not complaining they were plus 1/2". For giggles took a few T-Stamps to range and no brainer, I'm putting spanking new T's in bag tomorrow, weather permitting. Pretty awesome setup. DG S400, standard length. Near as I can tell, toe is a bit squarer and muscle a bit heftier, but not  much else. They swing nice, slightly more fade biased and lower launched than Rifle profile but I'm stoked to finally try them. Look a little more compact with toe grind, and weight wise, same zip code, but like DG feel a bit more.

Played today, total track but nonetheless really feel like I am nestling back into that bad day still under 85 mode.

So my kid has transitioned to my shingos, and he is hitting them well.  I may well sell the cb57s as really just having both sets us the appeal for me now.

I have 14 hours left to make a decision on something I am compelled to do I think.  There is a kyoei forged blade set I’d love to have and it’s going for about $260, but it needs to be reshafted.

I can get a set of TRPX pulls (I’m leery of weight being 85g big time but I have always gotten along stupid well with my wedges and they are 80s so?) for about $170 so sub $500 I can build this.  I can get all so get the same exact roddio i8 shafts that are in my wedges for another $100, but I think the beat up trpx shafts and savings from it was worth trying them over what I know.

should I Ho this at all?  Should I ho the set and play the long Game waiting on pulls that Are more 105-115g?   I thought about going modus but I want carbon in that Kyeoi head, my last set felt amazing with kbs…

My gut says get the right shaft, even if it takes longer or costs more.

I'm used to the compromises of ho deals but it gets a bit tiresome. I've had opportunities to buy new metals but they were a bit off in some aspect and so I moved on. Glad for it. Takes longer & costs more, so what, it will be right.

Welll I didn’t get shinigawas, but I just won this auction.  I figured instead of buy it now last night I would Bid the opening low and if it is meant to be it is…

Here is my new/old thing

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n1095100762

They look identical to the Vegas I had, the price was great, and depending on how beat up they are for real, I may go down the refinish road, but I don’t want to, I want this to be budget ballin,  but I also knowingly got a little project.

if anyone knows anything about these I am interested.  I assume it was just a house head somewhere in the 2000 teens?

I forgot About the bid on shafts until wife just texted if “I made another large Purchase” meaning the CC got dinged a She gets those alerts, so I can presume that in addition to her hyperbolic use of “large”,  I will also be getting these things.  For $160 I’m down to give them a go.

I got The i8 and would have preferred the i9 but That is only on paper. My steel shafts have been 115 for a long time and I am definitely down some yardage and swing speed (in a good way I think)this go around so I think I don’t need anything aggressive as that just isn’t my swing anymore.

I was sent a link to the Takomo 301 customize page (not really sure how to get there from the main site) that gives you the option for lefty. The shaft selection is limited and heads only doesn't seem to be an option, so I'm going to wait. I will be getting them, I'm sure, just not today. 🤣

Played poorly on front nine, played average on back. 49/42, stinky I know but I love the T's. They feel more solid than most any club I've hit. Nice deep click to them.  Not fully accustomed but they are staying in bag for long time.

So this was their virgin use, and my buddy decides of all days, he's going to run over my golf bag with his cart. Full under chassis crunch. One micro scratch was damage but I was mad at the golf gods and smashed a #5W to pin high on a 225 yard par 3. Made 3.

I'm one who needs reps to warm up. I need elevated activity to find swing rhythm and looseness and near every round I play is, 6 holes of garbage followed by 12 holes of defeated competence. Need to change that. Every time I played in the 70's, I hit 50 balls before round. My course has no range, nearest is 20 minutes away, My golf Sundays may go into OT because this all rots.

I think you're right that it was a regular house head, from 2011 maybe? Kyoei Craft Model, or KCM.

I think I documented refinishing my Vega set in here back a few hundred pages ?  Not sure how searching in threads works but if I did take photos and document it, it is about same except I had the Chrome stripped and did an at home black ox.  I’m fully prepared to do similar if needed with the set I just got if I like them.  You should for sure Do a Project set At least once, it’s super Rewarding.

Thanks!!!!!

I was thinking later but maybe that was. The pre raf cm for Vega house head.  I feel like I did ok, sub $400 for beat up trpx pulls and old Kypei heads I believe are the Vega ghost I have been chasing was too good for me in the USA to pass up on a gamble.  Obviously With me being the only bidder on both the Japanese market feels differently but I have noticed I have a much greater Tolerance for wear than the general native yahoo auction user.

Yeah, there are so many secondhand clubs in amazing condition here that many buyers will stay away from anything with, err, "signs of character."

I'm not too bothered by some scratches or dings on irons, and will happily pay a lot less for a club that's clearly used rather than splash out more for something pristine.

Not really sure if Im alliwed to post this or not since ”no debating clubheads”-nonsense but I give it a go.

I want to add a blade to my collection. I own Mizuno MP64s and Ping i230s.

I want something that looks like P7TW or Adam Scotts Miuras (Titleist 681?).

What is the closest I can get from the used market that resembles in looks and performance?

Nike is almost the same, but not sure about the tungsten insert.

I look at it like I am buying this to throw it into the ground repeatedly at 80-100mph so who cares.  My small blades are starting to really look like their age In the bag.  Faces still ok since I take big time spans off but thr. 9 and. 8 are close to the nickel coming off the face…..as far as dings hahaha, the set is oozing old comfortable shoe “character”.

To me the cool thing about boutique golf stuff Is that it losses Value like a luxury Good and back years are a super value to anyone who wants them for use, not status. Like the kind of people who would put trpx shafts in irons aren’t the kind of people who buy shafts With paint chips all over….so they go stupid cheap and that is right in my jdm Ho wheelhouse hahaha.

I personally prefer looking down on something that looks like a tool over a gem.  It feels more purposeful.  I need a stupid clean driver (can’t go missing fairways worth out a clean driver) a presentable putter or putter I love in any shape, and after that’s I don’t care, I don’t even have hardcovers for my 3 wood and hybrid. They are clapped out for sure…..

The TW P7 has same insert. The VR proII is an excellent iron.

Scott played the 680 not 681, they have slightly more progressive offset than 681's.

There are so many it is a budget question then a preference.   If you add any semi modern blade I think you will get what you are looking for in your experiment.   As for those looks, you can just get the 681s but I would recommend a set of mp4s because They should be cheap enough, in abundance So lots of room to be picky about what Shafts are In them, and that should be a real good intro if what Blades are and aren’t.   I know not that 681 shape and I love the 681 toe, but I think mp4s are a great dive in.

100% why I mentioned this….don’t let a shaft you don’t gel with ruin the experience.    I would add, if you haven’t played nippon, the modus line is phenomenal but that is to my swing and tempo etc. Modus 120 in stiff probably is easy enough for anyone to get on with.  My gamers have regular nippon 1150s in them and I love those shafts.

It's actually meant to refer to the blades vs CBs discussions that turn threads into cesspools.  That isn't what this thread is about.

If one wishes to discuss the relative characteristics of various blade clubheads, that's a different tale altogether...

Take a look at Srixon Z-945 or Z-965's. I moved from VR Pro's to Z-965's, and think the Srixon's are slightly better. They do have a little thicker topline, but are buttery soft, and very easy to hit.

They have a live chat widget on the site. I'm sure you can ping them there during business hours and get a quote for heads only. Doubt they'd want to lose a sale, and I'd assume even with the bulk deals they do for the shafts they carry they don't shaft up all the heads before orders are made.

They told me more shaft options and heads only are coming, just not sure when.

I'm totally on board with a set of heads. I could reshaft my Haywood's and put the known shafts in them to test.
