I don’t know what haywood is but those are sick!

 

Regarding no 3 and 4 irons I mean even ignoring jacked lofts, but not ignoring the ball, they are just not needed as they were.  I am not long not short, I hit my 5 200 but really depending on situation 190-210.  I hit my 4 marginally further, and not as high.  I hit my hybrid 220 and high af, I hit my 3 wood 230-260 off the deck conditions depending.  I am sure most all golfers have a similar (relative to them) spread from 5 to a hybrid.  If someone who can hit a 210y 5 iron struggles to hit a 4 iron marginally further and not high enough consistently and hybrids exist, how could you Not?  Even for a hardcore old school feel player using the smallest blades you can buy it is a no brainer.   Plus let’s keep it real, what is anyone’s GIR% from 215 and out?  Mine is higher with a hybrid and still only half my shots have a chance and from there I need a big green and/or luck.   I get tour has 230y par 3s but realistically why would anyone pay for 2 or 3 more irons that will end up situationally irrelevant or not the logical choice.

 

I say all of that knowing what it feels like to nut a small blade 4 iron into a green from way out.  I also know I used it 10x more to hit hooks and cuts under trees from my driver yips than I ever needed it for situationally(Not saying much tho).  I am all about if you enjoy it then play it and you will hit better shots with what you bond with, but from a sales and demand perspective it makes a lot of sense, especially when the heads are Japanese expensive forged whatever cost per head and shaft etc.

Also, on 5, it's a longer par 3 that I love to hit my 4 iron. Today I flushed it and it was 10 feet from the flag. A gal in the group behind us said "the sound of that iron is incredible." I said "yes, yes it is " 🤣

@Bigmean FYI there was some speculation that these are using some generic blanks & then milled/finishing/ tailored with their own branding etc.  (Nothing wrong per-se... but worthwhile to note?)

For the hollow heads, I would say yes, but I'm much less inclined towards that thought regarding the blades.  Haven't seen anything else that looks like the current Haywood MBs.  

 

Admittedly, not looking around all that much, either. 😁

Yeah, those are tight. I could never justify the price in my head, but when Josh told me about the forged MB, I was first in line. 

 

I must have gone through 6-7 sets of irons when COVID started. Once I landed on these, that was all I needed. I will still look and try other stuff, but you might have to pry these from my cold, dead hands. 🤣

Haven't been playing all that well the last couple weeks.  A few weeks ago, had a weekend where I shot a couple upper 70s rounds from my course's blue tees, thought maybe I was finding last summer's form.

 

Then did the golf gods smite me.

 

Have been playing my Purefit blades of late, which I've just not jived with for some reason.  I decided it was time to go back to my basics, and put Golden Rams back in the bag.  These are the Vibration Matched set, which now have Nippon 950GH shafts (stupid aging). 

 

Didn't have much trouble hitting the Rams.  Actually hit them great. They give a great visual behind the ball, which may be nothing more than me looking down at what I'm most accustomed to seeing 🙂.  Think I only mishit one shot all day.  

 

Sadly, the only thing working for me.  My tee game was brutal, I was back to the multiple punchouts per round of my past, hit a ball OB, all sorts of fun.  Short game went on vacation, putting was sketchy...  ugh.

 

Interestingly, the steel shafts have so far not aggravated anything.  Going to keep monitoring.

 

Will have to get these adjusted for loft and lie.  They are a bit upright from what I've been playing lately.  And, lofts are probably all over the place, it's been quite a while since they were last checked.

 

Felt good coming back to the Rams. 😊

The Takomo 301 MB will likely get bought this summer as soon as the lefty is available. I would love to see it next to the Haywood MB. If they are cut from the same blank, that's a damn nice blank. 

 

I'll never forget the PXG reps response when he hit my Haywood's during my 0211 fitting. You could tell he was impressed. He wanted to "just hit a few more real quick". I know it's not just me, everyone who hits them loves them. So if it's the same blank, then there are some solid options to pick from.

Yesterday marked the fourth consecutive day of golf for me.  Kept the same set of Golden Rams in the bag.  They were as excellent for me as they were the day before, but this time, other aspects of my game showed up, and I scored 10 shots better than the previous day.  Adding to the surprise, the wind was up a bit more yesterday, compared to the previous days.

 

"What took you so long" is what's running through my head, regarding my delay putting them in the bag this season.  🤔  It's a little ironic, as I'd hit them a fair number of times over the winter, in simulators.

 

As for driver...  had decided to put an NV75 X in my 300 Mini.  I found I was having to baby it slightly to keep it from going left.  I could tell the issue wasn't flex related, I wasn't overloading it (not bloody likely at the 103mph I have now).  Decided to add a bit more lead tape to the head, another 3g, which should put it as D8.  It was a winner yesterday, had a great (for me) tee game round, only one questionable swing intruding.

 

Was a little hesitant to go up to D8, but should have done it sooner.

Yeah I agree but where they fit in is keeping things matched up weight & flex wise in setup. I know hybrids can be set just right, but have seen many do the mis match of light & loose with PX 6.5 or X100's and it's not impressive. Something I'm careful about is the gapping, make sure my #5 is there, then work the #4, and now I feel like #3 is earning it's place. My #3i did a lot better than #5W, I'm either going Mb #3i or hybrid or driving type but may do Driver & 4W and drop 3rd metal altogether. I've held hybrids I like, so I'm open to that.

Soo played yesterday and my golf karma Couldn’t be any higher.   Not sure what I ended up with but was a typical 82 or something, putted worst in since I have been playing again, hit irons horrible (gamed The 1957 cbs to just use them, another topic but I honestly feel like I should pull the shafts from them and just shelf the heads, I have never played well with this set).  BUT,  none if that matters.

 

10 fairways for the first time in god only knows how long.  Not just 10 fairways, but 10 with authority, Save For one penalty in water off the tee, it was a driving clinic.  I have not stood on a tee box in what feels like a decade, and just zero thought pure confidence full sending drive after driver after driver right through to bombing 18.  
 

There has been a lot of practice and a lot of effort behind this. I have been living in my Garage after work, I have a left wrist issue from hitting soo many big swings nightly, and I have been optimistic with results until now and direction has been positive, but this weekend was a significant breakthrough in what hasn’t been in the bag for years……swagger and real confidence you can’t Fake to yourself.  After I overdid a cut into water on 15, I nutted drives on last. 2 par 4s to bounce back….. I expected myself to keep drilling drives after that and I did.  That is what truly changed.

 

 This wasn’t just keeping drives in play, it wasn’t lightning in a bottle, it was the real deal.  I can’t tell this group how Badly I needed this.  I’m not pretending now driver is good too go, but for the time being, for the first time since 2017, I have a real foundation I can build on and I can trust and most importantly I can blank my mind in a round and NOT have those big big misses come up, and all I need to do is see the line and send it.  
 

I haven’t been this excited about golf in a long time, this has been quite the albatross to the point even though my breakthrough is my subconscious “feels it”,  my active mind still is not believing it yet…….vs before my active mind trying to convince my sub-conscience that it will be ok….huge difference between those and that was a switch that flipped for real this weekend.   
 

Sorry so long, I don’t think this won’t be a work in progress, but in well aware that this was a Monumental corner turn and I am on cloud 9 today.

It makes sense my Friend.  It Is illogical, but it always feels like home to come back to a set of blades.  I may full eBay send my cb57s and use that money toward something ridiculous like that juice TQ set for my GI option.

So the putter community here really didn’t like my post over there since there are apparently 4 gamer putter threads,  but I just wanted to see what these people with 4 figure closet queens actually use for real with no regard to value when putt matter.  This group mostly knows I have long collected putters, some expensive, some modest, just what fits my eye really.   Anyway, since I promise I will stop talking about driver for a while may as well share my baby with you guys since the. Pics are on my phone and keep it off track😆.

It’s a Golds factory.  I have the specs on the COA, but I just looked and for some reason I only found the ones for my Cameron and Byron I sent over to be modded by sasaya-san and not that one.  It is in my closet someplace, my plan is to one day have the specs matched exactly on a custom build..

I haven’t been going to the practice green much,  as you know I have been driver obsessed for a while.  So when I practice my putting I usually bring. 2-4 putters and I create a tournament style game to keep my focus and attention to get the most out of my time before I am there just fanning at balls with no intent. 
 

Since you all like blades here, I got one.   I have NEVER gamed this, but this is currently the hottest putter in my stable coming off back to back practice wins.  I’m seriously torn between gaming it next round or never gaming it.  
 

Edit: I guess I need to attach photos.   It is hard to get that face

mill that radiates out but the putter is absolutely disgusting in real life.  It is my favorite by far 8802/Napa style putter, but I am biased.

Yeah,  The zen has always been one of my better ones, but I have been making a lot of 5-10 footers With it in practice which is always my issue with putters like this one or my studio despite being really good at Dropping putts from 15-30.  oh dude, if you think that is wow wow, my studio 1 custom modded by GF is, to me at least, is otherworldly.   The problem is you are genuinely scared to game these things.
