Well wound up going to doctor and of course turned a corner day of appointment.  This rocked me worse than Covid did, but if I can resume a normal diet and not have it come back hopefully it wasn’t colitis or something digestive, but blood work came back normal.

So I am in good spirits and feeling good and I just opened up the rest of my kyoei blades (the previous owner respectfully wrapped them individually with enough twisted newspaper to stop a bullet).   They are stupid clean.  I mean have some knicks but for what I got and what I paid, I’m stoked.

The 7-8 transition has that look I hated in my Vegas so I know these are going to be amazing.  I’d leave them out on the kitchen counter, but I don’t think I’d be able to handle all the sex after my wife stepped over all the Japanese newspaper mess on the floor and saw how sexy these look in satin.  The last photo is my miura 7 in front of the kyeoi 7 for reference and the 4 clubs is the kyeoi 7/8 then miura 7/8.  It doesn’t show but the 8 in the kyeoi is taller and that gets cut so low to 7 it makes the bulge at bottom of toe stick out more visually (I like more square irons).

Get well soon. Had covid pneumonia twice in less than a year. 2nd round was almost to point of being hospitalized. Fought through it. Still get a relapse now and again, especially with the high temps and humidity here last week or so. Nice sticks too!

Yeah, I tested negative with a $10 test on day 11 but doctor was like meh still could have been and just cause you had one version doesn’t mean you have all the antibodies for other bad virus’.  That sucks to hear how bad you got it.  I’m going to eat a little poorly this weekend so I can rule out digestive issues lol…

I could probably play since I have been working and I really want to hit just take the kyoeis for a test drive, but I really need one more weekend if laying low.  The heat and humidity is no joke, it has been brutal and I spend most of my time in a bay door open no AC steel building so I for sure think I could have blown off the first go around and the elements brought it back.

Last bout I had tested negative and just knew from having it previously something wasn’t right. Took a newer dated test and POW…. between those two rounds and Rocky Mountain Spotted  Fever from a tic bite my immune system was garbage for a while…. Get well soon!

Counterpoint: the 975 series is still fantastic. I play the 5W at just over 40” so it’s basically a 3h. Driver is about 10-15 yards shorter than current stuff but the look and feel are miles better.

Nice. I have the MP 650's going. super sweet. Great w/ MB's. Think I love the bonded metals in general. toying with idea of trying JDM bonded model too. Like the TSR's because of all Ti thing and classy looks.

I thought my wood game was retro with the 913F cemented in the bag….Your wood game is straight up nostalgic….those were I think (subjective anyway) the first titliest drivers and woods that put them legit in convo with TM and Calloway etc….great clubs.  Of course the irons look sharp as well but I would be terrified to play a bag like your for a few bucks….

I got the 9i and PW sorted out awhile back and this set of FG-51s is magnificent. I like them so much that I sold my ‘99 Hogan Apex set (except for the 2i). I intended to keep the Hogan E but ended up going with the Wilson there too. The FG-51 seems to be the first Tour Blade set with a modern rounded leading edge and it makes a huge difference over the preceding models. I also have the ‘87 Fluid Feels and while nice, they are dig city and don’t feel quite as good.

I originally built these with Hogan Apex 4 shafts and those ended up not being stiff enough. So I rebuilt with twice soft stepped DG120 X100s and that combination is great. I’m very happy to be a member of Team Wilson for the foreseeable future.

I had bought these heads in December and just got around to checking loft and lie a month ago. Nothing too far off except for the 3 and 4 irons, which were both very flat and at the same loft 🤣. I am hitting these a mile so I was a little surprised that the lofts weren’t stronger. Fortunately the stiffer shafts have brought the choke down fade back into my game for tweener yardages. I am basically a club weaker than contemporary blade lofts.

Why are the 3/4 iron listed as same loft? 51s are sweet irons, sold my long ago due to liking my 17s much much better!

So of course I played yesterday cause i feel 95% and it isn’t like I haven’t been going to work.   I really went for my kid who has his HS tryout and the only way he makes the team is if they would take a freshmen on potential.  So he was beating himself up after like a 8 and then he 4 jacked a GIR on a par 3 and was being even harder on himself and that was #8 and I just reacted to the situation but it was even a friendly reminder to myself as well.

I looked at him and I told him “I am not doing this, this isn’t fun.  We can leave after 9.  I have spent too much time on a golf course not having fun because of expectations and I’m not ever playing golf like that again.”

He said he was all twisted because he knows he can’t make the golf team.  I was like so what, you get a free round of golf at a private track bro, maybe the kids there are dropping 36s maybe a lot if kids shoot 50, but just go do it and have fun.

Needless to say, mood in cart went 180, he proceeds to play solid for him, has fun with hard chips, had a chip in for bogey and just ended so well and we had so much fun.

Golf is hard.  It is also a tease.  It is also really easy considering that to lose the important relationship your golf has with fun.

Anyway, HAVE FUN out there.  I’m not going to debate technology here, but yesterday I saw “having fun” with no tech change take 10 shots off 9 holes for someone using clubs that couldn’t honestly be fit worse for them.

Love reading this thread…I proved myself I can game blades with my mp29. But I am just gaming these small cavity backs better…do I have to hand back my blade card…I mean I still have them and still play them on my sim

i know I know, the Bridgestone J33CB are not conforming as of next year but let me enjoy them for a few more months…my groupie is more relaxed, we just play what we enjoy

Oh yeah, sorry that rambled.  The Kyeoi blades are amazing.  Like they are it, they are the cb set in the rotation that I haven’t been able to find since the dci 962s.

TL;DR Kyoei blades are so amazing I don’t understand how they haven’t really caught on more

First all, maybe I am missing things from just crawling out from under my rock, but they are more forgiving than my miura 57 cbs, straight up.  I hit 4 5 irons, all good and on one I really mis hit it.  I mean it was on the grooves but it felt like I got nothing on it.  It was a layup hole so meh but it was 185 out there and I was like wtf.   I remember the Vega long irons also being good.

I had a couple PWs, which I hate the pw with my BB.  I’m having real trust issues with that club since I have been playing again.  Had nice small draws in, both on green and one was a fantastic shot that gave me about 15 ft for birdie that I made .  I. missed a 4 and 8 ft birdie though but I played the zen and quickly remembered why I can’t use 8802 putters, I can’t make anything from like 4-9 ft with near the regularity I can with an answer.  It’s rad from way out, I scared the hole a few times from well outside 30, but I cannot game it if score matters.

What else, the regular flex nippon shafts didn’t Bother me at all, no ballooning and I’m going to keep them until or if it ever comes up because I think these have a flat lie angle and it really suited me well just addressing the ball it all looked right and other than a huge hook with a 9 iron from a bad lie from a bad drive off fairway I hit them small draw or small block most of day.     I know the hosel bent and shaft won’t change the lie but I don’t want to fix a problem that isn’t there.

I learned when I sold my Vegas that all Japanese stuff isn’t can’t miss awesome.  I get why some people think miura is over rated, and I have flipped a ton of irons from there and felt a lot.   I did NOT like the kyeoi Vega VM02 blades I had, so they aren’t can’t miss.

However the VM01/whatever I have/whatever is current that has a head that looks like mine have to be one of the best sets out there.   Maybe it is a good fit for me but I can’t imagine a blade guy not loving this set.

Those are the measured lofts from when I received them. I don’t know their history but somehow they both ended up the same. The #s after “to” are their values now after bending. Curious why you like the 17s more? I haven’t hit them but I have played ‘76 Staff Blades and ‘87 FFs and I find the 51s to be better in just about every way.

I had modern woods up until this spring. Ping G400 driver, 17* UW, Ping G400 hybrid. I bought the 975J for fun and instantly loved how it looks behind the ball and was shocked at how playable it still is today. The EI-70 shafts are great fits for me as well. It’s also nice that these can be had for $40-50 shipped. Literally pennies on the dollar. I am a convert.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, the 17s were a better fit to my swing. Best $50 I EVER spent on golf equipment! Absolutely love them. And the 51s were missing a 5 iron🤦‍♂️I have a spare set of the 17s as well!

My first set of blades was the MP29. I bought them in pristine condition off our club champ for $250 back in 1997-98 I believe. What a steal. Love the MP 29 wish I never sold them in college for beer money.

I have a buddy who left a set of J33B’s sitting in a locker for a few years. I really hope they found a home.
I still have a J33CB 4 iron to put in play for some of my blade sets

i got the mp29 for $80 Cdn about 4 years ago and my J33CB for $150 Cdn….I don’t use my 4 iron as I use my Mizuno 4 DI but use the J33CB 3 iron as a straight off the tee shot - never had one so easy to hit.

Was just hitting some 8 irons in sim before my kid and his friend started up a round while they were getting his clubs.  Maybe 20 very thoughtful shots but it was enough.

These were meant to be mine.  I didn’t like the Vega vm02 set I had, so this isn’t a Kyeoi is amazing, or they will work for you.  That said, this particular mold and grind works for me.  Here is the quick compare in no order:

-longer by about 3 yards with bb(bb was my stock 158-163 and the kyoeis were like 3 yards down on both ends.  No big deal,  it I also way flew a pitching wedge on course a number I wouldn’t have hit my bb pw so I’m not sure but they will go on the loft/lie machine at some point.

-both are straightest I have hit on sim as far as far as spread from an iron.  I’ve seen enough on course and in garage.  I’m gaming them until I have a reason not to.

-my high iron hook (7-pw I tend to do this) is much less with these than when it comes out than the bb.  Like instead of 5-10 yards left of green it is more like 5-10 yards left of target.  I noticed this on course as well.  I made a swing on sim that I know is that swing I feel it and know it’s impact intimately and I didn’t get what I do when that swing is on the bb.  No idea why, but that miss is probably better with my other sets as well.  Something about the bb let’s me just turn it over.

-They both are a 10/10 for feel, But they are different categories.  Like best sports car and best grand touring car or something.  Close but different classes.  The kyoeis feel like hitting a heavy feather ball, it is very pleasant and a tad vague.  The bb is like firing a handgun while wearing thick oven mitts, and nothing is tad about it, you get that feeling or every 1/8” away from that is a multiple of less oven mitt.

-the Nippon 950s in regular flex.  I think I have a very middle of the road transition, speed, lag and all that and I honestly could play with these as easy as the modus 130x on the cbs I also got.   The R doesn’t bother me at all, and they are straight and didn’t ballon when I played.  The weight however did.  When playing I didn’t notice at all, but when hitting back to back with the 1150s in my bb.  I am going to need rounds under my belt to really feel this out.

I really can’t believe how under the radar kyoei is.  I get the niche and price thing, but they should be as well known as miura with who has the same hurdles.  It is a rare auction for something kyoei/Vega to come up at a price that is reasonable, but I highly recommend everyone tries heads from them once.

Big fan of ''1964 MB''. Looks great, specs are spot on where I like heads. Missed out sale for them but hoping for 2nd chance someday.

There was some dude who posted their bag on Reddit.  I am not hip to new drivers but maybe all TM stuff, Miura irons, whatever putter I’m sure a Scotty or something and he said the bag cost him like $4800.  I was blown away at this.  Now I’m not so oblivious to not realize I have way more than this in putters, but that doesn’t count and has appreciated so literally with inflation that was better off in putters than cash even if I have no intention of selling any soon.  I never understood new clubs at $800, but $5k was like how?  For 5K I would need a non conforming level difference in play.  Let’s face it, even the differences between Muira and Wilson staff irons comes down to feel and subtlety and preference.  I would never play this crap as good as it is for retail.  As much as I I’m not opposed if they are marked way down and new old stock, but man, $5k on a bag that is worth $2k the first day you use them.   I have been looking at auctions for so long I really forgot what this stuff actually costs new. I thought a new set of Muiras would be like $1300……which is also insane(Says guy who paid $1050 for his small blades)

I feel like blades golf is also all about NOT msrp new shiney golf 😂

Insanity.   I have always wanted to be fit and almost paid for it at club champion with intention of not buying clubs but paying for what they say, but I never feel like my game is consistent enough to make the money worth it.   I know this is like sac religious on wrx, but I really think you need to be legit player at a sub 5 cap to even gain the nuance of fitting tweaks.   I have played so many heads and shafts as most of you, and sure some stuff is on eBay within a week for sure, some stuff you just get along with and alot if it is fine but doesn’t tickle your pickle.

I will say my shaft shootout ended with the kai li and trpx el dorado being a clear tier above the rest on almost a tie for clear cut better everything (distance and dispersion) so I think that opened my eyes some there. I wasn’t expecting 2 shafts to be double digit yards further than the pack with better or equal dispersion.  Although straighter shots go farther so it makes sense the straight ones also went.

Perk of hoe life is being able to self fit. I learned a lot with it. Guy that joins us is a CC fitter. Works in an upscale town. He thought it was nuts, told the guy , ''you know....''. Good guy, plus player

A bag is now, irons, woods, hybrids wedge set and some fancy putter. Twice the content really, so twice the price.

I had a moment once where a guy kept going on about my use of Hogan's. Not in an ugly way but he was, ''blades? really'', never mind I was best in foursome. Could not believe I was using long irons too, even as I out drive his woods with it.  So I finally go, ''see my bag, $600 for all, how much was yours?'' He had new AP2's and Callaway metals, conversation over.
