Any ideas why the swingweights of these miuras are so low?  I’m just confused

Irons built for tall players, lighter heads are used to offset any plus on lengths. Maybe your set was originally built for a +1" set? Also grips, if you put midsize grips on any club it will drop measured SW a couple points. If heads have been stripped of finish, 2 points can be lost. Standard build on Miura's are D2-D4. Add 4g-6g weight, find a lighter shaft that offsets lightness with higher SW bias. Know they exist can't tell you which model but both those may do the trick.

Every time those RF Cobra Irons pop up I nearly buy them. So beautiful and people who can't hit them love selling them dirt cheap. Awesome.

Can't wait until my Rors Proto arrive! I am hoping I don't have to buy a set in the meantime.

I bought a set of the RF after wanting them for years and couldn’t be happier. They feel great, minimal offset and I got a great deal from ProClubs during their Masters sale. It was under $625 delivered brand new with KBS $ Taper 120 shafts.

Those almost look raw. Are you sure that's the original finish? Maybe they were stripped which would impact SW.

I was thinking that as well but looks like the brushed satin nickel just with paint fill removed. If they are raw then that would be even cooler haha I haven’t seen any in the wild but definitely some online look shinier than these for sure. You can still see the vertical line on the face framing the grooves on a couple which would be lost if stripped??

anyone know that if the original finish was stripped how many grams typically typically would be lost? In the miura history site they have the head weights of this model so would be nice to see the difference….quick google search says 2-3 grams at 5 max. That’s enough for a couple sw points.

I put lead tape to get to d2 and most clubs were 6-8 grams but yes I use the gripmaster midsize so those grips are a tad heavier as well at 54 grams vs 50 standard weight for weighing swing weights. They are 1/4” short (which I prefer) as well so there’s a lot there. Really curious about the actual head weights.

Yeah the grips are definitely throwing off the reading. That aspect is a faux problem. I routinely use grips in 62g-66g window and the clubs go lighter on SW read. They play the same. In Tech section, Howard_Jones is the guy on doing a builds, he has wealth of knowledge on ways to build a set to desired specs of wight , SW & flex profile.

Some shops in Japan are blowing out Ryoma Maxima drivers on buyee. Picked up a brand new unit with an GD shaft @ 11.5° loft to try out a kind of mini driver experiment and it showed up today. I must have missed the description or my reading comprehension was faded with the deal. Driver is special tuning, which apparently means it's a high COR unit. I don't ever play in competition so I dont have concern there. My concern is that face reliability. It's also a gold faced unit 😄. Looks like a stage prop for Earth, Wind, and Fire. I won't have time to chop the shaft today and load it up with weight but will be taking it out tomorrow and see how it does.

I’ve learned a ton from reading his posts. I usually do dry assemble with a regular grip to get the true swing weight.

What’s a nice somewhat modern (last 10 years at least) set of blades that I can pick up second hand in good condition for a reasonable price? I have a set of 690.MBs that are nice, but the shafts are not for me. Looking for something a little more recent.

MP4s have been mentioned already, but I'll add another vote for these. I've played them for over 10 years now, and recently bought a back-up set. I've played other blades in the meantime (mostly older Mizuno irons, but a few older Mac, Wilsons, and others as well), and I find the MP4s to be about the best to play for me.

While I didn't like them, the MP5s also found a lot of popularity, and the MP68s and 69s are worth a look.

Also mentioned by @NRJyzr in a different post are the much older MS-11s. I'm not sure of availability where you are, but these were sold for over 10 years in Japan, and sets are not hard to find now.

I have two sets, a regular one and a custom one with a different finish and stamping. Both great to play.780956491_MizunoProOriginalsMS-11sset.jpg.a96e7beda3f7bb360588cde30548e78c.jpg

Which Model is this

I have a set of tn87 and ms11 and the ms 11 or soo nice looking. I just can’t stand the shorter irons in these older models. It’s really a shame

First gen Staff Model Blades are my rec in that category. Some of the best feeling irons I've ever hit and nothing but positives from everyone who's tried them. Great turf interaction and absurdly forgiving for a blade because of the muscle cut on them.

Plenty of affordable sets come up on the bay and 2nd swing.

I have built a lot (well like I don’t know 5 which is alot for miura) sets and never had an issue being within reason to D2.   Shaft length would be my first guess but it sounds like you are on that sort of stuff so no idea.

I played a maxima for a while until I ruined it in my garage on sim (discovered on the right follow through I had to cut my door tracks about 5”).   That was probably the last time I drove the ball well, I still have the damaged head, they are solid drivers.   Mine was legal cor, it wasn’t crazy long or anything but it was just a good driver.

That seems to explain everything right there….1/4”’short and heavy grips.   Not sure about the 5003, but you should be able to search google.jp and find some kind of old spec sheet on a stagnant webpage that lists the head weights.   If you can you can cross check yours against that.

Just gave the ok to ship my modus 105 all black pulls and the stenson legacy blacks.   All the s200 love is making want to try the stensons as they come before I tear them down.   I will probably do that anyway as they seem to go for decent money on American eBay in case I hate them so I can just flip them and move on.   I really think I am going to like them though.   DCI 962s are still my fav cb set I have owned, and god knows I have owned some fancy ones since.   The callaways sorta have that vibe to me but endo forged s20 in theory should be a winning combo.

Driver honeymoon is over, shot 82 yesterday, which in fairness felt like a 90, no birdies and 10 bogies, 6 of which I could blame driver 100%.   Silver lining is my bad rounds seem to be getting lower, so that’s good.   I loathe grip changes but I really think I am going to have to mess with my grip if I want to shoot lower, my grip works for my trap draw with irons but I think driver really highlights the need for impeccable timing hence the inconsistency.

I still love the mini with a 46” shaft though, it is different and I know it’s right, but only so much can be done with how I am delivering the club face.   My mental game is so much better and positive this time around and I have a lot of confidence in this driver.   I am 30% better with it, but my tee game apparently needed more than 30% to give me shots at breaking 80 every time I play lol.

Catchy has a set of irons that are MS-11s without the stamping.  Believe that's what he has pictured.

We'll see if I'm in the right area code. 😁

Yeah, they're MS-11s with custom-stamping. I've compared them against my normal MS-11s, and the head shape is exactly the same. Only the finish and stampings are different.

Mizuno offered lots of customisation, and still do, I think (but maybe in Japan only).

They're about a club shorter, which makes sense because the lofts are about 1 club weaker and the shafts 1/4" shorter. That's not really a problem.

Otherwise, they're a very good blade, much like the MP4s.

Played yesterday with the Mizuno MS-11's in the bag, with a hardstepped Modus 120 stiff.  Went full 2-pw straight to SW.  Also brought along the King Tec 2h now shafted with Modus 105 stiff, tuned down one click, making it a theoretical 16¼°.

Had an adjustment period at first, I'd been swinging shafts that were a flex stronger, with an opposite profile.  Had a couple lefts until I quit adding extra to the swing.  Trajectory increased, as I was hoping, able to hit even the 2i with no trouble.  Haven't played these clubs for a number of years, it was like returning to an old friend.

The legendary MS-11 bounce was evident, got through the turf as well as my TS-4 set.  😁

Hit the hybrid twice, the 105 shaft gave me what I'd hoped, the added weight I sought, and a similar trajectory bump as I was seeing with the irons.  On #18, I hit it farther than I expected.

Looking forward to my men's club event in a few hours.

This afternoon, I'll finish gripping the 986 Tours, may take those to the course for tomorrow's round.

Great fun 😁

My Men's Club event went reasonably well.  In spite of having a tee shot hit a tree and vanish, causing a lost ball, a walk back to the tee box, and a double bogey, I managed to shoot an 80, 5 strokes better than my 2025 season average to date (started the season as a 7 hdcp).  Following this round, I made an observation to a friend, telling him I felt like my swing was coming back, helped by this reshaft effort.

Yesterday, the golf gods decided to punish me for this moment of hubris.

Started well, even par through the first 5 holes with a birdie on the par 3 5th after hitting to 5 feet.  Promptly flare a tee shot into trees on the right, and after a tree jumped in the way of my second shot, I managed to salvage bogey.  Doubled the next hole, wound up five over over the last four holes of the front.  Make another birdie on #11, limp my way to the par 5 #15 where I hit a tee ball down the middle.

Here's where the gods made themselves known.  I shanked my lay up, messed up the subsequent punch shot, had to hit a 3i 4th shot, where I was allowed to make a good chip to save bogey.  Shank my tee shot on par 3 16th for another bogey.  Another hoselus lateralus on my approach on 17, and then the ultimate finish, an OB tee shot on 18 for another double.  A +12 round of 83.  What could have been.

Apologies for all that whining.

Still feel like there's a glint of hope in my game.  All that hoseling of the ball and I'm still a couple under my (rather ugly) season average.

I'm encountering much the same thing with my MS-11s back in the bag.  The TS4s I've been playing are almost a club stronger, except at the 3 iron where they're a degree weak.  I have my 11s set with 4° gaps, while the TS4 are essentially a one club strong version of FG17 lofts.  Just hit one club more for most shots and I'm in good stead.

These 11s were the set I was playing when I first started playing at my course.  Which has a sad side effect, I can very clearly see I'm now about 3 clubs shorter than I was then.   😞

Its alright. Its not as consistently long as my gt3. I had 2 that stretched out there. I need to get more weight in the head. Looks like they use a basic weight that golfworks sells. It does sound like an old ping or Nike driver. I'll throw some weight in it and see if it changes the performance before I abandon this gold plated driver that will be difficult to sell

Fellows,

I got a set Sixon 945 (4-P) that I shafted them up with DG TI 120 X100 and thought I just have a nice extra summerset but… these are so good and so forgivning so I only play with them even compete.

They are a bit beaten up

Should I have them refinished?

No. Almost guaranteed the head weight will drop, so they will change. I have beat up blades that i wouldn't dare mess with. Have noticed that lie setting might need re-tweak after years of use but otherwise old is gold. For a few dollars you can by a tool to sharpen the grooves if that problem presents itself but have never felt the need for that.
