Since selling my p730 a few years ago I have had a mb shaped hole in my heart. I spotted these in a second hand traders shop about a month ago. I finally decided to take him a few bits and pieces and did the deal.  Considering the age they are very well looked after and the faces are super clean. I tried them out in his hitting bay and the PW was still scuffing the skin off of the balls.

buying or selling?

I sort of regret buying these because they look likely to give my MP4s a good run for their money.

edited to fix my error! Regret NOT buying.

Those are absolutely gorgeous. My God….

I also have a set of MP-37’s (retail). Along with the 14’s, they’re the best set ever made in my opinion.

And for Bigmean, they’re definitely the 37’s. The 29’s are a little more rounded and have much less camber, though they do share a few similarities.

I want to hear about this.  I still remember 30 years ago I saw a set of those in a used shop in OKC and always regretted not buying them.

First round in the books.  Overall, I'd call it a success.  A tale of two nines, or maybe a first 8 / last 10...  was even thru 8 holes before going +5 on 9-11 which derailed anything notable.  <shrug>

The irons were quite lovely, except I discovered on #13 the hosels were rather unforgiving.  🫣  For a considerable portion of the round, it was point and click.  If I could have made a couple birdie putts, it might have been more interesting.  One of the highlights was hitting the ball just off the green on the 196 yd par3 with a 2 iron, a laser straight slight push that landed pin high.

Took a couple legendary divots with the PW, these lack the bounce of the MS-11 or the front to back cambered grind of the TS4.  Its also something I notice when I play my Golden Rams.  A wee bit on the sharp side, they are.  😉

One other change I'd made yesterday was playing the ZStar XV ball.  Enjoyed the noticeable uptick in spin in the short game and short irons.  Didn't get a great feel for tee distance, going to pay attention to that.  Been playing so many softer golf balls, the feel is an adjustment.

And finally, used my Maxfli TM-2 putter yesterday.  It was quite lovely.  Its a little long and the grip is a bit small, going to trim it ½" this morning and install a leather mid-sized putter grip for today's round.

Great fun

Good stuff.

And not to get OT, but I've used that ball for years now -- with TW 276s, FG51s, and Hogan Grinds -- and several years ago it was too hard and clicky.  But the last couple of generations are much better, and just fine.  The Diamond is even better, though. :)

I've been considering joining the Amateur Players Tour here in Portland, then I try the course the next tournament is on and it's awful 🤣

I also put myself on a very tight budget, so I haven't bought anything (except that sweet Nike 5 wood I scored) so I haven't posted much. I'm still lurking, especially this thread, so much gold in here.

There have been some sweet new blades, too. I hate not spending stupid money. I have gotten some great comments on my Skully blades. I did the PXG Black Ops challenge with my Haywood and fake Autoflex shaft. The Black Ops with Velocore+ was epic, but it was also $750 after my hero discount. Considering my setup was $380, I think I'm good. It wasn't THAT much better. But homeboy was admiring the skullies. He said he wished he could hit lefty so he could try them.

What is this fake autoflex shaft you speak of?    I would love to try an autoflex but as a bit of a shaft ho, I think nothing has more diminishing returns per dollar spent.  However a used $600 shaft from 5 years ago for $120 is squarely in my wheelhouse lol.

I got 2 shafts for $70 or something from AliExpress. One Autoflex and one Velocore Black 6S. I've been gaming the Velocore for a while, but I had out the Autoflex in the Srixon ZX5 I had and it was glorious. So a few weeks ago I put it in the Haywood. My grouping is tight and I'm hitting 4/7 fairways now and my misses are just a few yards, not woods deep.

Hovering in mid 80's right now and biggest bleed is still partial wedge play, 2 triples yesterday due to yippy SW alone, weird.  Nike's are boss, carried a mature tree using #6i, with the rollout got 200 yard rescue from other fairway. Punched a #7i from the woods from 140, put it 4 feet below flag. Teed #4i, shaved 40 yards carving dogleg. Prior week, nailed 5/6 from 185 to 210 into greens. pretty sure that good of percentage never happened.. If i dial in wedge play, keep working long, sub 80 on a bad day is real. Been a while i felt this way.

Played with this scrawny kid (27), could do 250 with #3i & 340 with driver, son of a teaching pro, boy, it's fun to play with guys like that. Him and another guy, they put things at P5 to just fire the hands hard, and hold nothing back, slam that head into ball, they are not as pretty as PGA guys but yeah, they can motor. I want to get things that simple.

Brought the 8 and the 6 with me today to test at range.   Not going to lie, I was a little intimidated being away from them for 2 or 3 years, they are called small for a reason.   That lasted until the first shot, I didn’t even hit my kyoeis to warm up.   I had 8 on a par 3 and hit the small blade, gir par.   I truly forgot how dialed in the feedback is, like of course you will know you missed flushing it and where, but the misses go better than you expect because you were still really close to flushing it.  We all play blades for the feedback (And distance control), I just forgot how HD the feedback was with these.  I’m going to game them this weekend.  .

Great discoveries: Fire, the wheel, writing systems, geometry, calculus, steam engines, electricity, antibiotics, DNA structure etc. etc.

Not so great discoveries: the unforgivingness of the golf club hosel

When I am on the range “figuring something out” I find the hosel, a lot.   Always have.   The other week I had a good laugh to myself because there were a couple guys close to me and I sent out like 15 iron shots working on tight cuts… maybe 50% pure striped and 50% straight up shanks (one hit a tree off to the right and came back at the hitting area, which made me audibly laugh lol)

Like no one should be capable of sending pure strikes out there then shank then shank then 2 pure then shank etc.   I think it has to do with holding off turning it over but it’s super rare on course even when I am trying to exaggerate a fade so maybe it’s a concentration thing (my adhd and range don’t play nice) or I just default to my swing when playing even if I have thoughts of feeling something different.

No matter what I always want to laugh like a kid when I’m on the range with people sending hosel rockets, it’s like farting in public, it’s always funny to me….
