How should I swing if I need to keep more weight on my rear leg?

I've posted in the forum a time or two, so I won't go into great detail here. Essentially, I have two bad legs but the left is far worse than the right, and I'm a right-hander. I would like to keep as much weight as possible off that left leg while swinging. How could I build this type of swing?

 

I've been swinging Manuel de la Torre style for a little while now and practicing that all winter. I like its simplicity and its ease on my body. I'm not looking for a quick fix or anything like that - I'm more so curious as to opinions on the best way to swing while having to do this.

 

I notice that I naturally set up open now that I've had these issues, so is this something I can, or should, keep doing? Should I move the ball back slightly to help with solid contact? Should I work on swinging more upright, and powering with my arms, to hit the ball a little higher and gain a little speed? It's concepts like these that I'm trying to get help with and understand.

 

I'm just 5'5 with an upright posture (bad back), wingspan 3" longer than my height, and have a 75mph speed with a 6 iron for 150 carry average. Good shot is a small draw, Miss is a hook or a spinout pull (when I try to hit hard). Driver is around 200 - probably not much faster than the iron speed, but I'm not sure. I'd love to gain just 10 yards or so, as when I really hit the ball flush that 6 iron has gone 160 with a little draw before. I know I have limitations that won't ever let me be a long hitter, but I would like to improve. Thanks for everyone's help.

In my opinion, if you don't try to swing hard and hit it really far (stay in control), you could handle drag a little draw to keep your legs quiet.

You have to get moving left, but standing open gets you away from posting into your left side and you start spinning sooner. The weight still gets targetward but there is power loss.

Move the ball back a little to further get yourself left without actually posting into that left side.

It sounds goofy but stand open and be steep and armsy. The steepening will counteract the open stance and you should hit it straight.

I would also advise to focus on right arm extension and adding speed at the last minute with educated hands.

This is not as consistent of a swing as the body driven move, but if you can't post into your left side, conventional swing advice won't apply.

When you say steep and armsy, do you mean in a more vertical fashion when going beyond the toe up to toe up position?

To me if you are trying to limit weight transfer, stick with a narrower stance that quiets the lower body. See if that works.

I have actually been doing that all winter and do like how it feels. Thanks for confirming. What I've never been sure about is the position of the feet - flare them out in a duck like manner? Flare the forward foot, square the rear? My natural, non-thought stance is now narrow, right foot square and left slightly flared out with an open stance line, little knee bend, and upright posture (short guy, long arms - it actually seems to work well as far as comfort)

Who I've studied a lot of this winter is Ken Duke, and I've read his coach Bob Toski's book (the one he wrote with Davis Love Jr). I haven't attempted to ingrain that exact swing type that Ken uses, but I've thought about it. Does anyone see any negatives as far as injury issues in using basically this same pattern?
