Face pic of sldr is this a crack?

Well. My 430 started the day today with a weird sounding strike. Then odd short ball flights all afternoon. I finally started hitting 3 wood it got so sick. I just got in and under bright light can see in the lower left of the face ,a mark. Does it look like a crack to you guys or not? If so can anyone tell me what the TM customer service is like? I no longer have the stock shaft etc will it matter to them? Thanks in advance for the help.

Tough to tell via pics. Personally looks like a scratch than a crack. Cracks usually are a lot more noticeable.

yea.. that's my opinion too.. and its in an odd place... but cat figure it out.. stood when I got home and hit 5in a row... and just felt dead.. with a really muted sound...

I'd vote scratch. Cracks in metal rarely will have curves in them. Straight line would be a crack. This doesn't look like it. Take a pic using the "Macro" setting on the camera and post it. There isn't really enough resolution to tell for sure.

I was also looking at a different part of the face. What is that just below the last "groove" just left of center? Now that looks like a crack to me. It's about 1/2" long parallel to the grooves.

Looks like a scratch.

But submerge it in water to know for sure, if it bubbles out of that spot it's a crack.

look at the next to last center groove.... coming off it is a "line"...you can catch your finger nail on that one

Either way something happened to change the sound. I'm sure you weren't simply imagining that. Good thing you didn't trade me your backup a short while ago!

Submerge the head completely under water and look for small air bubbles coming out of the suspected crack. Sometimes it takes a while and they might be small. If any are spotted its definately cracked.

I had similar experience one time with an adjustable driver and it turned out that for some inexplicable reason the screw that locks the shaft down had started to come loose, tightening it back up solved the problem of course but I have no idea why it did as I always make sure to let the wrench click twice to make sure it's properly tightened.

yep.... I have bubbles...small and slow..but bubbles... and also a new rule in the house....my wife calls it the "you cant wash golf clubs in my bathroom sink !" rule..... I explained it wasn't "washing " it and she still did not care..lol well... anyone know what TM will say about it? will it matter that im not using original shaft?

yea its "dead" like hitting a ball with a pillow dead... just goes nowhere... Im hitting everything else good ... and it was all at once too... one range ball good... next range ball bad... then every single ball after that (at least 20 balls) bad....

In my experience TM has great customer service. Will not matter u have custom shaft. I've turned mine in with the custom shafts and they serviced them right away. If worried about the shaft just return the head. I agree looks like a scratch but if the performance is affected I would call TM ask for repair or warranty department and tell them. They should give u a RO # and then ship. The way I figure it with new R15 they're more than willingly to give away a new SLDR head. Especially if that means a happy customer, which equals a repeat customer.

Get in contact with TM customer service. They are second to none in replacing clubs that are defective (cracked)

They will probably ask you bring it to a local authorized dealer (Golfsmith, dicks, etc) and they'll confirm. Then you will ship the club to California with an RA# and you'll get a replacement. No sweat. Sucks that your stick broke but I have had atleast 4-5 clubs crack on the face due to hitting the ball hard. It happens especially if you practice a lot with range rocks

TM customer service is second to none. I phoned in with a problem and they had me take it into a local dealer. Dealer examined issue, called TM, and within a week I had a new driver. No other questions asked. And, not that I needed it, but I got to keep the old one. (Shaft was still good) I was really surprised - thought they would want it back in order to do an examination of their own but nope.

Odds are they will send you an entire new driver and not just a head based on how they handled my situation.

Was it where the scratch was or from the area below the groove?

Looks like a weld crack to me as that's about where the face and shell would meet if welded and face is not a cup. Not sure how the heads are made but ... (Could also have been a scratch just from the picture but not for the air leak test etc.)

Bathroom sinks I can understand but you have to be able to use the kitchen sink at least? This is America, after all, where Men rule the roost and women are meant to...oops, gotta go. The wife is calling me.

thanks guys...called TM and they are closed till Monday morning (no biggie) Ill get ahold of them then and im sure get it replaced.. It was indeed the spot below the groove.... I think the other is a scratch as well.... doesn't bubble all the way across the place...but in 3 distinct spots along that line.. as for my being a beast... I laughed out loud ....inside joke...but short answer is I have a friend who uses that term whenever hes talking about a fast car...He will be like "man did you see that thing....its a beast...I mean no really a beast" imagine that in a New Yorker/ Italian accent...(no offense to anyone Italian) Just hilarious.. all of our friends mock him whenever we can .(you would have to know him) ..So that made me chuckle... anywho....I appreciate the help guys...Ill post TM response here when I get it...Im 100% sure they will handle it... I cant believe I traded my spare head away Friday though... just my luck too...It was brand new..lol

And as an aside I had an experience with taylormade customer service a couple of years ago that was so good I sent them an email commending them on it, so yeah, they really are top notch!

A player on my team cracked his R1 head and Tmag sent him a new R15. Id say its quite the upgrade.

Note to self: buy drivers less than 2 years old for dirt cheap, hit heavy and crappy range balls really hard until the face cracks, get the newest driver from OEM. Perfect plan.
