Adding weight to Toe-weighted putter

Posted this yesterday in the Clubmaking section and didn't have any luck, so figured I would post it here and hoping someone can chime in...

 

 

I have a YES! Jenny 12, and while I really like the SS grip that I have on it, it's definitely taken away some of the head weight that I feel.

 

I've added some weight temporarily with lead tape to make sure that I was going in the right direction, and it's helping for sure.

 

I've already added just about as much as I can without raising the putter/sweet spot too high.

 

 

Main question is, how will using tungsten powder for the rest of the SW affect the putter, since this putter is toe balanced (heel shaft)?

 

Am I overthinking this, or will this cause a problem?

 

Should I consider drilling putter and adding a weight system instead? If so, which weight kits have people been using for that now?

I currently have weight down the shaft to bring the swingweight up to my desired specs. I was feeling like it was just slightly moving the sweet spot and throwing the balance/feel off a bit.

The general consensuses I got is that lead weight is the real go-to option. Next best option and fixed solution would be to have someone like Tom Slighter install tungsten plugs. The price isn't to bad on that, but it's more then lead weight or weight in the shaft for sure. On the plus side, it looks cool and gives you a true one-off putter.

I was leaning towards sending my putter out for the plugs sometime this month or next (needed some time to bounce back from holiday expenses). But lately I've been putting really well, so now I'm not really wanting to change anything. I'm either finding the sweet spot better, or just adjusting to the change in feel with the new stick, but it's working! I might get the tungsten plugs at some point, but for now I'm sticking with the weight in the shaft.

Thanks for the response...I'm actually capable of modifying the putter and installing an adjustable weight kit myself, I'm just not sure where to get a "universal" kit from. Whether I need to drill some holes and epoxy some threaded sleeves in the bottom of the putter or whatever. Not too big of a deal, I will keep looking around for some pictures or write ups of someone who's done something like that before.

I haven't heard of a "universal" weight kit at all. As a matter of fact, I think if you find a universal weight kit, and can install in on putters to look clean and functional, you could make some decent extra money on the side. Guys like Slighter and Ping's WRX department are a few of the very limited options that offer those types of modifications.

looks like that putter has the longest part of the shaft pointing or favoring the heel side of center, which would make it a non-face balanced putter (ie toe hang). The head is probably balanced heel to toe for a higher MOI and off-center forgiveness.

Like 502 suggested, adding lead tape would restore your head weight feel preference , as would adding powder to the shaft tip, lower the balance point again. I would think the movement of the CG would be negligible.
