Ways to gamble without gambling

Recommended Posts

I admire anyone's convictions to avoid sin, wrong doing or anything against one's moral beliefs. But playing alongside the devil and playing against the devil is same thing isn't it????

I don't think simply by having a "friendly" wager of a soft drink, a $mall wager which is meaningless to one's financial situation, or any other small simple wager is really harming anyone...

If I were playing golf and seen how much fun the other guys were having, and wanted to be included in such games, I would get in, even if it were on a smaller scale for me....but I don't think you can see harm in you engaging if you feel its not harmful for them to engage in such activities......

It comes down to what the religion says is "allowable". Once a person of authority in any position does what is not allowable, whether by code or rule, especially by someone in a position to espouse the rules, it diminishes their credibility and calls into question their ethics, morals and reason for being in their position in the religion. They are the "police" of religion, there to spread the word through their deeds and actions. The only person that can answer this question is the Pastor or any other people he can turn to for support in his religion.

I'm of the vein "if you have to ask, you probably already know the answer, you just want support for your actions."

That said.... "Bishop: Excellency, fiddlesticks, my name's Fred and I'm a man, same as you." As a religious person myself, I wouldn't have an issue with whatever the man of worship wishes to do, because it's his soul on the line and he has to account for his actions, not I. I can only do my job and guide. ;)

My friends don't call it gambling, they call it accepting weekly donations.

i call any money pot as entry fee for a very small mini tournament. one time i played my friend, the bet was loser had to caddie next round......he welched on the bet. but he did clean my clubs. so funny watching him scrub my clubs.

Another vote for the 'travelling cup"
Me and one of my best mates who go all over the place on golf trips, have a divot repair tool from the golf course in the town we grew up in - and haven't played for at least 15 years - as our trophy.
The requirements are a minimum 5 rounds per trip count towards the competition and we play match play, with one modified stableford/quota round thrown in.

I can still remember like it was yesterday chipping in on 17 at the Straits course to tie the match and go on to win the cup.
Conversely, I can remember just as well him going hybrid|hybrid on 18 at Spanish Bay for a two putt birdie to close me out. Especially as I gave him the hybrid, haha.

The people you are with make the competition what it is, regardless of what you are playing for, well as long as it's *something* that is on the line.

Simple solution Pastor.

They want to bet. You say:

"You win, lunch is on me. I win and you sit front row at the 08:00 service."

Win-win in my book. On the one hand you get to break bread with friends. And on the other.....well need I say more.

: )

In all seriousness, there is no need to always bet/gamble. But you could say something simple like "Winner gets soda on the rest."
This isn't so much gambling then as it is a reward for having worked for something.

When I was in school we used to make bets always on everything that happens. Gambling was in my blood and still is there so I don’t see reason to stop it because the only thing that it can brought to me was a better income. The only thing that you should do is not to be impulsive and to control yourself. If you will think twice before you do something then you will win alway. I play now poker too. But most of the time online with the agent 103.109.101.65/MewahBet/JudiOnline/category/promosi/. It is simpler to find all available promotions in a gambling world with them.

Playing a game of golf for a few bucks is not "gambling". Golf is a game is skill. Gambling denotes a game of chance. Getting a reward for the better round of the day is not gambling.

BTW - some courts have found that poker is not gambling as poker is a game of skill and not of chance. I'd assume they'd find the same with the game of golf.

Simple. I don’t look at it as gambling. I look at it as paying the price of admission. Some days. If I play well. I get a refund on that admission. No gamble. The admission is paid and gone. The refund is a reward. It’s only a gamble if you turn it into one. The whole trick is letting go.

what's your definition of gamble? without knowing this it's difficult to help you out. e.g. is it putting money on the line that you'd like to avoid? or is it putting anything on the line -- besides pride, which i thought was a sin anyway ;) -- which you want to avoid?

if you want to avoid exchanging money there are plenty of creative ways to increase the stakes. e.g. loser cleans clubs; lose a hole lose a club (win a hole win a club back); loser buys dinner or drinks; etcetera.

separately, you're already playing with these guys and you want to find out if they'll play you for pride? ASK THEM. it's really that simple. don't wait for permission from internet strangers to do the right thing.

What?

Gambling makes golf interesting between players. I agree it’s skill. Not as much luck

Poker is gambling. Though there are very skillful poker players but ultimately luck determines who wins most of the time.  The skillful poker players are the ones who can make players fold by bluffing so there’s no showdown

Being a PK this gets brought up to me all the time. Living in the world but not of the world. If you dont want to gamble then dont. Why make it a question for you to try and get around when you know that it is gonna still be gambling. Im not as strict on that and my brother and I play for a coke or lunch when we play. He is a Pastor by the way. At the end of the day, it really is where your heart is. Im pretty sure after the round that you are probably not picking up some scratchers at your local market while you are headed to the casinos. Only one who decides your fate anyways is the big guy upstairs.

Lol.  Indeed, things have changed in 2020.  Not only can you gamble without gambling, you can also get drunk without getting drunk and have sex without having sex.  It's going to be a great decade.

Having sex without having sex, you could always do that... Don’t do
gambling if you don’t want to do gambling, lol. Like, what are you afraid of? I’ve been gambling for years now, and I never cared much about anyone’s opinion. After 3 years of playing online poker, I stopped for some time because I got bored. But then I got into betting, and I find the process way more entertaining and thrilling than anything else. I’ve been betting for a year now, ever since I’ve met a good friend of mine who does bets himself. I got interested in it, and my friend explained everything about it, and then I decided to start myself, but I had no idea where to bet. I asked my friend where to bet if I have only crypto money, and he told me to bet on this website https://sportsbetter.io/eth-sports-betting/ because they accept ethereum and bitcoin as payment. From the first bet, I fell in love with the process, and till now, I bet and enjoy the thrill of it.

Nothing wrong with a little game. Two or five dollar Nassau match isn’t sending anyone to He11.  It’s not $2000 on a football game  (which you may or may not have in your pocket, 🙋‍♂️)

It’s also okay to have a few beers and enjoy yourself.  Moderation.

I’m an alcoholic so drinking it isn’t a good idea for me, but it’s fine for others as long as they control themselves.

All of these things are fine as long as you can control yourself. The danger is when you can’t.  Then you become a nuisance to yourself, family, and others around you.

Interesting how people are trying to rationalise what gambling is and isn't.

For me most of my golf has money on the line but it is symbolic mostly all the time in that it is amount that I would never-notice if I won or lost. It is about the winning and losing.

I do have to admit, I pay more attention when play for $100 or $500 though, but having said that I get more excited about my name on a trophy than winning $500
