DG Pro vs. Modus

Looking for thoughts on how these two shafts compare. I have the Modus 120 currently and really like them, but am looking at getting VPC irons. Since DG pro is stock it would save some cash to get those. Anybody?

i have similar questions and hopefully through Bridgestone's test drive program i'll be testing both shafts in same irons so I'll get first hand experience. I'll try to give my impressions, but if you want to spend $25 bucks you can go to Bridgestone's website and test each shaft for 21 days.

120 plays soft to flex. So I'd suggest trying a 120X and a S300 if you regularly use S300 or Stiff wood shafts. 120X will feel smoother and launch/spin lower. S300 will feel heavier and spin more, launch a tad higher. 120X might have a little bit of a more pronounced kick, but the stiffer tip section knocks spin off. It may come down more to feel than performance. Which do you prefer feel wise.

Mark....I currently have the Modus 120 in stiff. I like a smoother feel. DG S300 have always felt good to me too. I have never hit the DG Pro though.

I don't know much about the DG Pro other than it's a progressive weight/flex type shaft. It didn't really make any waves on tour. The new AMT shafts sound like more of the same. I don't think pro's want shafts to play differently in different irons or they'd be tweaking their irons differently like soft-stepping long irons, hard-stepping short irons, etc. I think most just want the same feel for everything, and different lofts for different lengths. Notice noone has a mixed set of shafts. I don't know if that is going to catch on. Flighted shafts never really did either.

Yeah, I agree with that. Probably best to stick with what I know I like. Modus is tough to beat. Thanks for the help.

I have the nippon modus 120 stiff in my torstage blades
i recently demoed the new bridgestone blades with the dg pro in them
dg pro felt very similar to the modus very smooth , i was hitting indoors
so i did,nt. get to see ball flight , but the shafts felt really good

Not really adding much to the discussion because I have never played the 120's, but I do have the DG Pro's and have been very happy. Very smooth shaft and help in the long irons is definitely appreciated for me. I've always been a fan of the DG S300's but these perform and feel better to me.

Another positive comment in favor of DG Pro's. I like the fact that they offer launch help with the long irons and I don't play on tour and don't care what PGA pros use. If you are a high ball hitter with your long irons they may not be the best choice, or at least demo first.

I've been playing TT Monacos (prototypes for the DG Pro series) since April 1, and I've been quite impressed thus far. My short iron distances are much more consistent than they've been with any other setup (almost never balloon them now).

Honestly, I think the mid stiffness profile on the DG Pros is just perfect throughout the set, and you can really feel and hold the flex without the shaft feeling either too flimsy or too boardy. For me, boardiness usually results in hooks—especially with long irons—so this feeling is key.

Finally, I have a set of irons with Modus 130x, and I prefer the DG Pros. I definitely think you should give them a try if you haven't already.

The AMT shafts are actually not a progressive flight, they are all Dynamic Gold flight, the lighter weights in the long irons will result in slightly more spin than constant weight DG as a result of the lighter overall club weight (speed goes up, spin goes up).

To the OP, the DG Pro is a progressive (flighted shaft). They are what I personally play in my irons right now, I haven't been as happy with my long irons since the days of TCI. They really elevate the ball in the long irons, gradually coming down through the set. Mark is right, flighted shafts don't always have a huge usage on tour, but we don't only design for tour players. A lot of amateurs needs help getting their longer irons up in the air, hence flighted sets. If you are looking for something to help get the long irons up in the air, I would definitely look at the DG Pros. If you don't need that help there are a ton of constant flight options out there.

I'd be highly interested in your comparison/thoughts between the Modus 130 and DG Pro. I came from PX flighted 6.0 to DG Pro and still not sure on them. Have seen the 130's are most closely correlated with PX.

IMO, the Modus 130 feels a little more stout that the DG Pros, yet is still relatively easy to launch. That may be because of the butt stiffness...I don't know. I currently have 130s in my irons but have tested the DG Pro X100 (and still have a spare 6 iron with a DGPro X100). I feel like I could play either shaft and be completely happy. Feel is different but both perform really well for my swing.

I currently have both modus3 120 S and DG pro S300 shafts. The biggest difference to me in the 2 is the kick. The modus shafts really kick and the DG pro's feel a little more stout. The modus shafts play really soft to flex, if you are a hitter then go to the X in the modus. The long iron flight is similar but the modus at their peak flatten out and the DG pro's have the typical spin. Both are great shafts. My 2 cents would be to Go with the modus3 120X instead of the 120S.
