TCU/Oregon game was the best of the bowl games and the Seattle/Carolina game was almost as good, had the Seattle team comeback from the 31 point deficit. That was good football, but maybe not as good as the Arizona/Green Bay game. I love me some exciting football. Hope this pattern continues as I HATE blowouts or one-sided games. Unfortunately my Chargers won't make it any where with the Spanos. Should have kept Shotie or Turner.

you know things have gotten grim for Manning when he completes a 15yd sideline out and announcers gush about how well the ball came out and it was his best throw of the day.

Only part Im nervous about is the fact that we have to play on the road.

What's Tom's record in Denver again? 2-6 oh right...

...I'm completely terrified and this is the only stat giving me hope.

Gonna be a low scoring game I think. A battle of the defenses kind of like the game today.

That was the most entertaining game I've seen in quite some time. That Hail Mary at the end of the 4th was unbelievable. How many other guys can make that throw? Maybe Cam?

I live 5 minutes away from the staduim/practice field. I have gone to mini camps and seen Rodgers throw the ball into a trash can in the endzone from the opposing 40 yard line. Thats 61-63 yards give or take where the can was. And they are like crazy high full on lob wedge rainbows. Guy has 1 of the strongest arms i have witnessed. And i watched the 'ol Gunslinger for 15 years. He would just break recievers fingers on 20 yard passes.

My college team's highly touted recruit was throwing passes from the 50 into a garbage can at Army All American practices. Can't wait to see his development

After watching KC at New England, I kind of finally understand, why Harbaugh was so convinced that Alex Smith, whom I have always liked a lot, couldn't get it done. A "solid" QB isn't enough in the NFL, unless you have a totally dominating defense and a Hall Of Fame running back.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Hear me now, believe me later, Vikes beat Seattle. Redskins beat GB.

I also take Cincy over Pit and KC over Houston.

Let's get it on!

Ouch only officially correct in one game, although Minnesota and Cincy should have won. I'm surprised by the GB blowout and definitely thought the Skins were going to win that game.

Well, here are my thoughts for next weekend, Den over Pit, NE over KC (although KC defense looks very good, just too hard to beat NE at home). AZ over GB.

The Carolina v Seattle game is a toss up. I really don't know how this game will play out. I could see it being a close game decided by a FG or Seattle blowing out Carolina like GB blewout the Skins this weekend. It just depends on which Seattle team shows up. They certainly got lucky against MN. Well, when in doubt go with the home team, so I'll take Carolina by a FG.

Alright, much better results this week!

Coming down to the home stretch,

I take Den over NE by a TD and AZ over Carolina by 10pts.

I think Denver's D is too good for NE to beat. NE just doesn't have enough offensive weapons to get them over the hump, not that they don't have plenty going for them.

I'm going AZ over Carolina because I think all the pressure is on Carolina and AZ plays well on the road.

Should be a great weekend of football.

I'll take Denver because Bill Bellichick punches kittens for fun and Boston accents hurt my ears.

I'll take Arizona because I like Larry Fitzgerald.

I think the NFL has the OT rule right. ( I say the NFL having *anything* right very reluctantly.) I wasn't in favor of the touchdown rule initially. You have played 60 minutes. If you don't want to "lose the game on a coin flip", win it in regulation. But a good return, a quick pass play, and kick a FG.... I think they have it right these days with the touchdown rule. If you couldn't win in regulation, and can't keep them out of the end zone on the first posession in OT..... sorry.

It's funny how many people write off calls by officials by saying "they had chances, it never should have come down to an official's call", but you never hear that about OT. "Give me my chance....." I'm pretty sure you had plenty during regulation. If refs blowing major calls that do in fact decide games can be shunted aside, then there really shouldn't be complaints about not getting the ball in OT.

I agree with you in principal. However, the current NFL rule leaves most fan wanting more. Not giving both teams a chance leaves me (and frankly many fans) with a hollow feeling. Being that the NFL is purely in the entertainment industry and the only reason there is an NFL is due to fans, I think the rule should be changed. They should cater to what the fans want to see. The fans want to see both teams having a chance in OT and not to have the game won on a coin flip.

Do you remember how bad it was before this rule change? Win the coin toss, kick a FG Game Over. I think the rule is fie the way it is now.

I take issue with the part about both teams not having a chance. Both teams do have a chance but if your teams goes on defense first, the defense has to make a play. They don't need to make a full stop or interception or fumble recovery, but they can only allow a field goal. In my opinion, if you can't stop the opposing team then you deserve to lose. Both teams had all game to make a play. If it were the 4th quarter and someone scored a TD in the last few seconds to win the game, do we complain that the other team never had a chance? No of course not. We say the defending team didn't play well enough.

I agree that many fans feel the way you do, but I respectfully disagree.

I think the NFL has it right as is, though that coin toss was a mess.

I will say that the previous rule which allowed teams to simply go down and kick a field goal looked bad optically speaking. But if I recall correctly, the team that won the toss still only won less than 60% of the time. So we weren't that far off to begin with, and I'd say it's gotten better.

Not only that, the stat that never got talked about was the number of times the team that won the toss actually scored on the first drive(which really was the issue.) It was something like 30%. The other team got a chance far more often than anyone wanted to admit. It just made for a better narrative to ignore that part of it.

If the team that won the toss won 59% of the time, that means the team that lost the toss won < 41% of the time.

In other words, the team that won the toss had a ~50% greater chance of winning the game.

That's quite an advantage to leave to chance.

Yeah, but as has been pointed out, the team that won the toss under the old rules only went down and scored on the first drive much less than 60% of the time. In the end, you are playing a sudden death game and one team (the one who wins the toss) could end up having one more possession to score than the other team. That's your 60% right there. Unless you want to go to something like college rules, then anything involving a coin toss will always feature some disparity.
