with modern cell phones, you can't control it. you can't tell people they can't have their cell phones, because there are valid reasons for having it. but in 1 second, you can raise the phone vertically and snap a photo. a volunteer would have to be looking right at you, and even then, he'll ask you to put it away.

I certainly hope you are not serious.

I'm simply amazed at the ignorance that exists today. Couple that with the entitlement attitude and we see why we are having this discussion in this thread.

Permitting cells phones at tour events is something that has only been allowed for a few years now. Prior to that you COULD NOT bring a cell phone into a PGA Tour event. If one was found on you at the gate, it was confiscated and you could pick it up on your way out.

1. Unless you are there sat or sun... how else can you tell people you are working from home? HELLO... email
2. How else are you going to check in with your patrol officer, I mean wife, who LET you go to the tournament?
3. You get nominated as being the guy that has to do a beer run, how are you going to find your buddies who ALWAYS move where they are standing?
4. I want to take pictures damn it
5. If there is a medical or safety situation on the course, you've just saved someones life
6. Rain Delays Blow... but with a cell phone you can ride it out, then enjoy an empty course to watch your favorite players
7. You can take tons of video at the range and spend time analyzing their swings
8. If you're single, there's tons of hot chicks that are there for one reason, to find a rich guy. What better way to get digits than to have your phone.

Seriously... you haven't thought about this at all.

Haha.....all good points.

On a more serious note.....how did people ever survive before cell phones? If one cannot leave his cell phone in the car for 6-8 hours while attending a sporting event, perhaps one needs to reevaluate his position.

Bosses and clients have different expectations now that they know you are always reachable. "Leisure time" is demonized.

If I'm awake, I'm working. That's how it works now. You need to be available via email every waking moment. Technology is suppose to make your life easier... it's actually made it more complicated. GONE are the days of just doing nothing for a day. That's just how it is. Some guys can clock in and out of work, but most jobs these days don't allow that. Those people are the slackers that get fired.

Heck... even the players are all on their cell phones. Tiger was lining up booty calls while actually playing in the round you would be watching when they tell you to put away the cell phone LOL

Since the phone allows you to break the tether of the office - "office hours" are not as necessary. As we move more and more to a "virtual workplace" the hours are less important. Hard deadlines matter. Slackers have less places to hide - but more freedom to do it. :)

Freedom isn't defined as doing anything you want anywhere you want. Similarly, harassment isn't defined as having to be reminded that you're breaking the rules.

OK but why is this person able to take a picture with a DSLR and not be harassed, but I was?

why did I get a speeding ticket and the next guy didn't???? we were both breaking the law?
