you book a tee time online, drive to the course, hit a prefect dive on #1, hit a nice approach shot at the stick only to see a nice plume of sand after the ball lands 10 feet from the hole.

Booked my round today via GolfNow and there was no Aerification Alert symbol. Upon reaching the course the practice greens were not punched and in really good shape. No mention of anything from the pro shop.

After the round I mentioned how displeased I was driving 30 miles to putt on sand all day and mentioned they should be courteous and use the symbols on GN or at least give better discounts for when the course is being maintained.

Got a.' sorry you were not pleased with your round" , but to me it's bush league because after you drive to the course, warm up and get on the first hole what are you going to do????

BTW - Course is Sierra Lakes in Fontana CA.

I completely understand your frustration. I cant believe the course wouldnt say anything while you were paying? I mean come on now. Now dont take this the wrong way, because i completely agree the course was wrong in not informing you about the greens being punched but i do have a question.

if it really bothered you so much, why even finish the round?

If I got up to the first green and saw it was punched and there was no warning at all from the golf course I would have turned around walked back in an politely asked for a refund. I think where you went a little wrong with the course is that you finished the round.

Despite the pain in the butt it was driving out there, its hard to argue to the course that they wronged you in such a way that you should get a refund or a free round from the course if you did actually complete the round. My guess is they probably didnt show you much love because completing the round shows it wasn't a big enough deal for you not to play and my guess is that's probably what a course that doesn't report punching greens is banking on. Its kinda like ordering a chicken sandwich, them serving you a cheeseburger eating the whole thing then complaining that they did not bring you what you ordered after the fact. All I am saying is i think you would have gotten more of a rise out of the course if you had not finished.

I am not sure why courses don't think aerating greens is a big enough deal to make sure they alert everyone. Maybe they are afraid of lost sales. but your going to lose customers when you are not honest about course conditions which is a bad move on their part.

I think it was a good move by golfnow to hook you up definitely shows they care a little more about their customers

As Hot Rod 71 said, I drove 30 miles to get there, my wife was already on her way to Disneyland with our daughter and to quit and hope for a full refund, only to drive somewhere else and wait for god knows how long to get on as a stand bye seemed to me not to be a sensible idea.

Honestly if the course offered me anything for my troubles, it would have ended right there..... even if it was a sleeve of balls that I would never use. Any offer of apologies and I would have eventually gotten over my disappointment.

I would be mad that I didn't hit my approach closer..joking of course.

However, the course most of been playable, because you finished your round. I don't like aerated greens but it is a necessity,so I'll play with the mindset my best scores are not going to happen.

Playable yes...... enjoyable? Depends on how much you value putting considering putting accounts for at least 30% of your over stokes. If the round was discounted accordingly I would not have complained.... also I would not have booked that course as my thought process for the day was to play with my new Ping Heavy Rustler.
Did that later that day..... no response so far.
Once you see it is aerated then it should change your attitude and mindset for the round. Work on fundamentals more then trying to score.

I understand your frustration but as many have said, playing on aerated greens are what all golfers do around this time and the next few months.

With the number of courses within a 30 miles radius if I search I can find a course that has either not been done yet or are already healed. Played a course today that isn't schedule to punch until April. Many courses here have 2 tracks and do them a month apart.

Again I am not opposed to playing punched greens, just need to know what I am in for and\ should be prced accordingly.
And how are you determining which of these courses have or have not punched?
It's a pain no doubt, but if you have the time to come on here to complain you had the time to quickly check greenskeeper.org and see they have an aerification alert.
It's a fantastic resource for us golfers out west :)

Thanks for the tip Duffer987

To answer your question, this is the first time I have booked on GF to where the course didn't use the A! symbol. If you are juggling a career, a home with a toddler and family, I barely had a few minutes to find a tee time and book it and hop in the car. My schedule of time or lack there of is no reason for a course to not be upfront about course conditions. I am on the email list for most courses in my area and almost all of them send out alerts ahead of time when they are punching and what the discounted rates are.

It seems a few of your are in the "buyer beware' frame of mind. Makes me wonder if you have or currently work at a golf course.

I hate it when a course doesn't let you know the greens have been aerated. This practice has been going on forever. I started playing golf 20+ yrs.ago and some courses were doing it back then too. Now that a lot of bookings are done online it only gives a course another excuse why there was no mention of it. It really irritates me.
It probably wasn't Golfnow that failed to mention it. It was probably the course. I've seen the symbol on Golfnow before letting me know a course was recently aerated.
Some courses do a good job about aerating. There is a local course that charges $60+ a round. When they aerate they run a special of $25. They even advertise it heavy . It is always hard to get a tee time there when they run their aeration special. They do it right. A lot of courses won't tell you about. When you get there still nothing until you find out on the first green. I've complained before because I feel it is deceptive too. Then I'll get we knocked $5 off your round because of it.

The best one happened to my friend. He was off work during the middle of week. He had just got a new putter . He wanted to play and get some putting in with it before our Sun group get together. He chose a course he liked a lot because of their greens. He called and asked about getting on as a single and the guy said come on over we are slow so there won't be a problem getting on. He drives 50 min. to get to the course. He only carries cash so he pays in cash and goes out to play. On the first hole the green is closed and they have a 5 gallon bucket in the ground with a flag in it. He plays two and the same thing green closed,5 gal bucket in the ground. Number three a par 3 heads back to the club house and he sees the 5 gal bucket from the tee so he rides back to the club house and goes in to find out what's going on. The person tells him the. whole course has the greens closed and are using 5 gal. buckets. So when my friend asks for his money back the person will only give him a rain check. My friend argues with the person but they don't budge on the refund. My friend tells him now why would I want to play a course with no greens when the main reason I wanted to play was to use a new putter. The person says well you didn't tell me that. My friend says you didn't tell me the greens were close either. The person says you didn't ask. I am laughing so hard when my friend is telling me his story. I never heard of a course closing all the greens at the same time. To top it off with no refund my friend had to come back home because he didn't have enough cash to pay another greens fee somewhere else. After telling our Sun group his story well of course we were not going there again because the way our friend was treated. To make matters worse he had to go back to a course he didn't want to go back to alone just to use his rain check.

Yeah, my course I normally play at is about 32 miles away from my place since one of our regular 4 some lives near that course and its a decent track. So its a like 45min so for me a 30 mile drive is pretty normal to play.

But i do understand that can be hike especially if you were dead set on playing that day. So under those circumstances u described. I can see why you would play since you probably would have got the refund but it probably would have ended your golf day.
