Aldila NV Mlti pro-s 105 iron shaft

Recommended Posts

Anyone have experience with this shaft? Might be looking to get a set of pulls for a good deal and have been wanting to try graphite. Thanks in advance

Yes. Very good shafts if that weight + bend profile is a good fit for you. And especially now a great deal for the prices you can find them at. Very low launching, firm tipped shaft - probably lower than c-tapers. If you think that might be too low for you, I'd recommend the vs-proto 100's instead.

Best retail price I've seen them at is probably Hireko golf ($30 per) but I've commonly seen new (not pulls) on ebay for ~$200 or less if you are patient.

I play stiff 105g steel shafts in my wilson's. I don't need help getting the ball up but would like a little kick at impact (one reason i am going graphite), should I maybe look into soft stepping them once since they are stiff's?

Specifically which stiff 105 gm steel shaft?

Sounds like you don't have a lot of experience demoing graphite but what experience do you have with other steel shafts (regardless of weight) - which ones had enough kick, too much kick, and/or not enough kick?

Graphite vs steel doesn't control how much kick - rather it's the bend profile of the shaft.

I play a proprietary true temper tx105

http://www.wilson.com/dyn/golf/ws_specs/usa/ci7.asp

It's a flighted shaft without a bunch of info on bend profile.

I've messed around with some made-for graphite but not aftermarket.

Matrix studio 84g made for's in some Adams felt like they kicked nicely.

The current steel shafts I have don't have any noticeable load/unload to me, as i tend to be a smooth swinger. Maybe I should be looking into a hardstepped regular? Thanks for your help Stuart, you're a gem of this site.

If you want that much kick, yes you might want to go down a flex but even then I dont' think the NV's would be a good fit for you. Not even sure of the VS-proto 100's R but difficult to say for sure.

If your thoughts of going to graphite was purely to get some feel of "kick", and not to get the shock absorption properties of graphite (or have joint pain issues), you would do much better staying in steel and going down to regular flex. Most of the heavier graphite (I'm assuming you want to stay ~100 gm or so), is fairly low to mid-low launch so firm tipped. None that I know of that are flighted to give even softer feel in the longer irons. There is a much broader selection of bend profiles in steel shafts for that weight range. Just guessing here (I've pretty much been graphite only for 15 years now) but some things to may be try if you can get your hands on them: PXi 5.5 or even 5.0. TT XP 105 in R, KBS Tour V in Reg. Obviously would need to demo any of these first, might be ok as is or may need some hard stepping - and we can't even be sure going down to R would be better - just the best guess based on what you've provided so far.

If you really want to try graphite in that weight range, the Vs-proto 100 in Reg [s]or maybe the UST non-proto recoil 110's F3[/s] (no F3's for the 110's only the 95's), [s]not sure about the AXE Xcaliber tour X 105's in R and how they compare to the other two but they might be a possibility[/s] (sorry, AXE may not even offer a R version of the 105's).

Thanks so much for the info, it looks like those shafts are not going to the be the ones for me

great info here stuart. My step dad has a set of callaway big bertha fusions with a 990gh nippon uniflex that feels pretty smooth, i may give those clubs a swing this week and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Not a bad idea, the Nippons are known for there softer feel. The 1050GH's might be worth trying if the 900 series are too light for you (950 is the current lighter model).
[/quote]

yeah since it's only a drop of 6 grams from my current shaft I am hoping it will play right in between regular and stiff.

if i was going new i would be looking at the 1050gh or the modus 120 for sure (though they are expensive)

Who knows maybe if I like the shafts i can put them in the Wilson's
