Adam Scott Back To The Broom

Scott has gone backwards recently, sometime last year there looked to be a back-and-forth between McIlroy and him for the number 1 position when he won Colonial. Now he's world number 11. Broom or no broom (was once first on tour in putting stats with a short putter so he has it in him somewhere if he can sort himself out), he should be looking to do everything in his power to sort out his putting and not have it wasting his peak years. Still has one of the best swings in the game.

yea it could be as simple as he hasn't been putting in the same amount of time on all aspects of his game since the birth of his first child. He also hasn't played many tourneys this year so far. His long game seems like it wouldn't take much time to maintain bc of his perfect swing but his short game seemed off at the Players. I followed him first couple days and some of his pitches and putts looked shaky.

I will admit that Scott's got talent. He isn't much better than any other top pros at the moment. He'll make a bunch of money but will never be a Philly Mick or even a Furyk kind of player.

Going broomless will be a BIG challenge for him. I will be paying attention.

I think we will see Scott start to heat up here, he's playing a lot now leading up to the US Open. I think that most of his struggles simply come from having a family now. Less practice time and probably up at odd hours on calls back home. He'll get it going again don't hit the panic button just yet.

Might not seem like a lot however for him that's a lot.

He's got a great golf swing, but he just can't putt. There are guys that are going to struggle making the move back to standard length, namely Scott it seems.

Scott has never been a standout putter. If his putting was as good as his ball striking he would have 10 majors. His ball striking is that good. IMHO he is the purest ball striker in the game, Rory included. Tiger pre 2009 is the only better ball striker I've seen during Scotts time out there.

Fact of the matter is Australian Golfers ,with a couple of exceptions,Day being one ,are great ball strikers and terrible putters. Scott is ranked around 193 in putting . I understand there is more emphasis on putting with young players in Oz. now but Scott's generation is a lost cause

I think the Greg Norman factor may be an influence in this. I agree that recent generation Oz players are all about ball striking and neglect putting. These guys grew up watching and hero worshipping Norman, who was an incredible ball striker. Norman was also a great putter and short game player but all the hype was his ball striking and driving especially, so the next generation of Oz players grew up trying to swing like Norman. If you look back to Normans generation, there were plenty of great Aussie short gamers like IBF, Grady, Parry, Fowler etc. It's only the post Norman players who have the beautiful swings and ugly putting strokes. The only obvious exception amongst current tour players is Greg Chalmers, who is a short knocker but a sulerb putter.

John Senden as well. He hits the ball great. But neither has the personality and mentality or the short game to win much. Great money-maker though.

When looking to see if Adam is putting well, check out his rank on stokes gained on putts over 20 feet. Last season he was ranked 1st, Rory 2nd. That's the putting area that he excels at.

yea his problem has always been inside 10 feet, he misses so many makeable birdie and par putts almost every round.
