Hey guys. Title says it all. I feel like doing some shaft experimenting, so what shaft do I need? High launch low spin.

I would PM Players Edge and ask his advice he stocks Fuji and Ozik for sure. I would think the Altus would be the highest launching, lowest spinning that I have read about. I am more of a low launch, low spin guy.

I currently play one of the lowest launching shafts out there. It is certainly the lowest launching shaft that Graphite Design has. I love it, but I want to experiment with a new shaft to try something out.

Have you looked into any the Accra shafts? Especially something like the SE 80?

After recording the interview with Gawain from Accra and Skip from UST in the interview this morning, I think true high launch and low spin is their MO across all their prodcuts.

The while transcript should be up by Monday for more information.

I think I may go with an Ozik. Just need to do a little research.

The Matrix Ozik F7 M2 is the lowest spinning shaft around.

I have a Matrix XCON 6 in my FT-5 and it is very low spin high launch.

bubba's pink bimatrix is supposed to be high launch low spin too i think.

I have one of those in another driver and I like it, but I want to try something else.

Is the X-Con 7 the same way as the 6? How heavy is the Altus?

Would suggest the Ozik X-Con, very low spin, and high launch. Was told by the Matrix rep that the X-Con is a little better for those with firmer swings; it has a little stiffer profile than the Altus. I can attest its firm, not stiff, very smooth, and good dispersion. Great shaft. Hits high bombs like nothing else I've tried.

Only difference between the 6 and 7 is weight. My 6 in X weighs 69 gms, assume the 7 X would be in the high 70s.

I am with you on the preference of high launch and low spin- I've tried tons of brands and their different shafts and finally came to appreciate the iRod's price efficiency the best- I've got 4 drivers with an iRod and 3 fairway woods with them, and for the price, they can't be beat...I found the Aldila NVS to be a waste of money for an attempt at making the NV more "high launch," but that's just my honest opinion...I loved the Pro Launch series by Grafalloy, and I'm excessively excited about getting my new driver with the Grafalloy Prototype BiMatrx (I really hope it's not PINK!!!), which I've hit on a few other guys driverheads and absolutely loved the low spin and absurdly high launch angle...although, I do believe everyone's swing is so different and shaft preference is a very personal thing, so I'd just steal every suitable driver/shaft combo from your friends until you find one you like- along with getting fitted, matched for your SS, etc...happy hunting!

All that said, I really want to try the Epic out...also, the Prototype NT by Grafalloy was great too...

there are 3 newer shafts around that qualify as high launch/low spin...last years altus, the newer XCON altus, and the XCON 5,6,7... let's just say the Xcon 6 as it is similar in weight to the altus. what is the difference between these three shafts? do they all launch/spin the same? please categorize them if not...thanks!

the xcon launches just a touch lower than the altus...maybe a degree difference and maybe 300rpm back spin difference...kind of like from going with a 10* instead of a 9.5*

Ok...I have wondered the same thing, but...

I need some convincing.

Why all the love for a $500-$600 shaft that not one player in the top 10 in the world is playing? CHIII is the only player that I've actually seen playing this brand of shaft...

If these shafts were the "end all" to the high-launch, low-spin dilemma, why aren't more players who count on the best equipment that they can get their hands on playing this shaft if money is no object?

No bashing from the cheap seats, just curious...

A few others.. Lee Westwood and Singh have used them. Justin Rose still does I believe.

I agree with you though. Overpriced and under-represented on Tour and amongst all good amateur players. You have to wonder what all the hype is about compared to a "cheap" shaft like the ProForce V2....

I hate to say this, but the Ozik obsession seems to be spreading...

We'll be drooling over lime green Oziks soon at this rate....

Or perhaps not.

Epic and Comp NT are 2 good high launch, low spin shafts. I fit an Epic into a friend of mine's Sumo driver and he went down 1200 rpm. That is not saying everyone will see that kind of reduction, just showing that Epic does bring spin down.

See I play an Ozik because it flat out performs any other shaft I have hit on a CONSISTENT basis. I can hit it ok with everything but the consistency isn't half as much as my current driver shaft. That being said, many tour players stick with what has/does work, past or present, hence them not wanting to change. (just an opinion) But to answer your question Will, The altus is going to feel soft to you, but will be the highest launching and lowest spinning. (Again my opinion) Thanks, Milo

I love that the ozik hype machine says it's the lowest spinning & highest launching shaft on the market. Without Launch monitor #'s, you guys can't say it is the Highest launching and the Lowest spinning shaft. I like my shaft because it is a very low spinning shaft that lowered my spin rates but didn't drop my launch angle too much. There are plenty of shafts on the market that launch it higher than an ozik & there are a few that spin less than an ozik, but there is no shaft on the planet that is the highest launching/lowest spinning shaft.

If I didn't just love my vtlt I would be playing the Rombax 7w06 as it is a mid launch, low spin shaft & feels more stable than the code 6 & 7 shafts that I have hit.

Boba, Tnsooner and mat562, very good point !!!

Should i go back to engineering school to understand and believe that highest launch and lowest spin shaft exist?

True Temper just mention the latest product (EPIC), but still not that kind of highest launch and lowest spin kind of shaft IMO...but definitely one of the successful one out of new tech line up.

Higher launch and lower spin is probably the right term IMO! :russian_roulette: High kick point shaft is tip stiff (low torque) to produce lower ball flight w/ low spin...The heavier the shaft the more you can see this effect IMO!

Just my opinions! :(

I've played both the Xcon 6 and the Altus. Not fond of the Altus but like the Xcon. For me it has been high launch and low spin with middle of the road feel but very long (9.5* D2/Xcon 6 X). I'm a big fan of the Code series of shafts; much more refined and plush in my opinion. Another awesome option (going in my tour issue FT-5 as we speak) is the Axis by Graffalloy. I think its one of the best opinions on the market right now. Feels great and launches like a cannon! Another one of my all time favs is the tour only Fuji 660TR, talk a about silky smooth feel; its awesome! I really do like Matrix (not the Altus!) but there is life outside of the hype. I really want to try one of the new Accra with Axiv technology; guys seem to rave about these Axiv models.

Most Accra's and Fuji Vista Tour.

Just a suggestion, have you thought about a higher loft head with a lower launching shaft? Maybe a 10.5 and something like a Graf Blue? Just a thought...

Good luck in your search. Finding the perfect driver shaft is the longest journey a golfer can take but is also the most rewarding.
