Nobody beats TW in his prime. Not Jack, not Arnie....I know this will open a ton of bed sores for the 70 and over crowd but they wouldn't be able to hang with Tiger. If he was playing with the same equipment they were or vice versa, TW still beats them all. Tiger lapped the field in Majors....not just the Kansas City Jaycees Ford Open Classic at 6,200 yards on greens that run at a solid 9.

Tiger is a terrible slow green putter, so i doubt he would be able to hang with them then

These kinds of comparisons are just silly.

Who would have beaten Duval the day he shot 59, in the final round no less ?
David Duval wasn't the greatest player of his generation. See how that works? But hey, I say we burn every OP that brings up a greatest golfer of all time - esque discussion. It's too bad the big boys and girls can't discuss these interesting topics without the children always needing attention. It seems to be an acceptable discussion for all other sports.

Yes, but TW could play LB in the NFL and take down Beast Mode.Like to see Jack or Arnie try that.

So obviously, TeeDub is the greatest athlete of all time. I think Dustin Johnson can dunk, and Jason Day subbed in for Ray Rice in the Super Bowl.

It's simple.....it's Jack.
Jack is the winningest major champikn of all time, but that wasn't what the OP asked. Jack has been outduelled too many times by too many different players to be considered the best as opposed to winningest. Tiger has never lost a shootout when his game is on. May gave him his closest battle but Tiger came through, Jack was at his best when Watson won the duel in the sun, and his record 19 second place finishes indicates he has been beaten when playing well. Tiger has plenty of high placed finishes, but none when he was playing even 80% of his bedt golf. When Tiger brought his A game forget about it. The only player I've seen from a different generation who I think could possibly go shot for shot with Tiger is Seve. They both had an intimidation factor to the point that other golfers knew they were playing for second when they were on.

Actually David Duval was ranked #1 in the world when he shot that 59

Tiger never shot 59 when he was #1 in the world

So I guess we all agree the answer is David Duval

Cant argue. Jones is the most important figure in the game.

TW is close 2nd,

"To big portions of golf’s audience — and what remains of its casual viewership that’s declined from the average 15.8 million viewers for the last two days of Woods’ Masters win in 1997 to roughly 11.5 million for the most recent installment — Tiger Woods still is professional golf. Without him in 2013, the Masters drew an average of only 8.5 million viewers for its last two days of competition. Overall, Golf.com places his value to the sport at somewhere around $15 billion. That’s 22% of the $68.8 billion golf industry and roughly a quarter of the status quo that isn’t coming back if millennials and other casual fans tune out golf altogether."

And sure, he brought in a bunch of fools for fans in day glo nike gear who cant play at all. Except Rory, of course ; )

Impressive but not really on Tiger's level in my opinion. Tiger had the Tiger slam and Jones had the grand slam but Tiger also won most of the other elite tournaments on top of that and his performance at the 2000 US Open is perhaps the most dominant in a major ever. Tiger over that period in my opinion had the most dominant stretch from a pro athlete ever.
