Lead tape on wedges and mods...who uses it?

Just curious who's putting lead tape on their wedges. I had led tape on my 60 degree Nike VR forged wedge and my Titleist SM 52 and 56 degree and I thought that they had a little bit heavier and better feeling then they had previously. I did not do this to my Callaway xforged 50,54,60 set I played most of last year. I just got a brand new set of Callaway raw xforged (50,56,60) and I really like these but I decided to test the 60 against my old Nike 60 (lead taped). I find its easier to elevate the Nike though it's about a tie slight edge to the Callys in feel. I also might like the s400 shaft better then the stock shaft in the Callys (s200 or 300?). For the Callaway wedge users (or other brands) do you use or have you tries lead tape? Also, what shaft are you playing in your wedges...stock or aftermarket?

Thanks guys!

I used lead tape on whatever club I needed to get it to D3. My PW/50 I upped them to D4 and my 54/58 to D5, didn't like that much so I matched my PW to the rest of my irons and upped the 50/54/56 to D6 and that's what I have right now. I love it. I might up my irons a little more, not sure yet.

I recommend playing around with lead tape and if you want a cleaner look, use tungsten powder.

I use enough high-density to make the wedges go from D4 to D9-E0.

Lol...nice.

Good to hear guys! Except for the poster above this post, are you guys using Callaway wedges or a different company?
BTW, what wedge shafts are you guys using?
let's hear some choices!
Thanks again!

Mizzy MP-T5's ordered 55-60 to my specs but did not specify swing weight, I guess because I use X100 plus 1/2" they used the lighter heads, SW was D1. Had to tape to get to D5. Much better now. Just ordered the same wedge in the 51* and specified D4, we will see...

lead tape is my best friend...

driver has it, long irons have it, wedges have it, putter has it, mid irons likely getting some soon, might do the shorties as well...

I use it because in my head, a heavy swing weight helps me control the traj better. With lighter heads (no tape) I feel like the ball flight is what it is. When I add the lead tape I feel like the ball naturally flights low, and I can choose to increase traj as I choose. Basically I feel like I don't need to work to flight it lower, only flight it higher. Kinda like only playing a fade or draw and how it takes half to course out of play. In my head, the lead tape helps me take ball flight out of play. I know it's going to be low to start with, so my only decision is whather i want it to fly higher or not. There is nothing to suggest this is actually true, but it gives me confidence so I run with it...

That said, the driver (910D3) has it to help my square the toe (tape on the heel, lots). It made a huge difference for me. 3W (TEE CB4 Tour *15) might get some as well, but i'm shortening 1/2" tonight when I regrip which should adjust the lie at address and may solve my problem. There is nothing wrong with the ball flight at this point, it mostly just looks awkward to me at address.

Anyways, lead tape is excellent and underappreciated IMO. if you are a good player and know what you're doing, I think it can help with some consistency and flighting issues/preferences. If you're not very good or learning the game, its going to be pointless because your swing just isn't consistent enough.

I always put a strip or two on my 60*. Just like a little heavier wedge. Feel like I have a little better control and feel around the greens.

Not crazy, just old school. The old teachers would say wedges and short irons are for accuracy, not length.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

IN the past I've always taped up my wedges, but I've been playing the xft wedges for awhile now(have stockpiles of heads and faces) but can't figure out the best way to add tape to them, any ideas?

I have used an insane amount of lead tape. Mainly because I can adjust how much I want to put on. I do use tip weights, but they are a pain to remove. And I've used lead tape on everything from the driver to the putter.

There's a fallacy that Tour pros don't use it, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

I use it where ever it is needed. Folks like me that learned to play in the 70s are used to heavier wedges get a hold of say an older Wilson or Macgregor sand wedge or double duty wedge and you will see what I mean about being heavy. Now on my older 588 Cleveland wedges with a shaft change the heads feel heavy enough so no need for lead tape. On the other hand my brand new Wishon PCF wedges with the same shafts on the same flex and tip I had to weight the crap out of them to get them to hit like the Clevelands and to frequency out like them. Nothing wrong with the Wishons just built different. I set them up and kept them so I will have conforming wedges if I decide to play any events needing conforming clubs. I went from a S-300 in the wedges to a softer tipped TT Sensicore shaft

Clean the back of the head with some alcohol or acetone, and then just smoosh it on there, man. I know the back of that wedge is pretty irregular, but grab something you can use to press the tape on there- handle on a small paintbrush, pencil, butter knife, whatever and just cram it on there wherever you want.

Weighting the head to your liking makes sense, but I don't like to use lead tape. Looks messy and signifies a poor build. Better to use a tip weight to get the balance as desired in my view. Nothing to fall off and the clubs don't look kludged together either.
