Single Friendly Courses - Chicago Area

Some interesting changes to several courses. The Highlands now allows singles to book when there is 1 spot open and they provide a 2% discount. The Brooks courses also allow single booking and they have the option of cart/no cart.

 

NIce to see some courses coming into the age of technology.

 

It looks like Highlands allows singles to book with an existing twosome, as I see "1-2", in addition to "1", available on the booking engine. I've updated the main list on page 1.

 

Where are you seeing the Brooke changes? Their booking engine is currently showing no available tee times for the next two weeks.

As far as flexibility with Phillips Park, they are outstanding! I play there once a week as an single without any problems getting on. Every time I call the Pro shop the person always tells me "come in and I'll fit you in somewhere". Even will let you start on the back 9 if there's and golf outing or league on front 9.

Good list. Maybe I missed it in this thread, but one can book as a single at Cog during the week, and weekend afternoons. I too play mostly as a single.

Not sure about 1-3, but I always have to call to book #4 as single.

Sorry, about that, you are correct. I normally call ahead rather than go on-line. I guess it's been a long winter and I forgot. ;-)

It's 2019, and I still don't understand why a handful of courses believe that single players should be required to call the pro shop to get a tee time. Every major online booking engine can be configured to allow singles to book in some configuration, including any available four-slot, or restricted to joining an existing twosome or threesome. I wouldn't be surprised if they could be configured to allow a single to join an existing threesome only. As noted numerous times throughout the thread, there are over 100 courses in the Chicagoland area that allow singles to book online. 'No idea why the other courses think they're special. If I'm trying to book a round, I'm certainly not going to pick up the phone and start making phone calls, especially now that one is very likely going to have to wade through a phone tree before getting to speak with a real human.

Honestly, the Glen Club has one of the worst websites in Chicago. Any course that requires one to register simply to view tee times should be kicked in the ***. I know with 99% certainty that it's a deliberate attempt to discourage non-member play.

When I was checking in at the Pro Shop at Tanna Farms on Saturday, I mentioned to the staff that I haven't played the course before because their policy of not allowing singles to book online. I noted that only a handful of the close to 200 courses in the area don't allow singles to book. He was actually surprised that the vast majority of courses do allow singles to book. Now, I understand that he isn't the course GM, but are folks that out of touch with their competition?

Hmmm...with the exception of the 3rd green, I've always enjoyed FB. What don't you like about it?

The course is good for the most part, I've had numerous bad experiences with the staff there.
