Anyone Use Colbert Refinishing Recently?

I'm curious to know if anyone has used Kevin Colbert to refinish a putter within the last few months and what your experience has been.

 

I sent my Scotty to him 3 months ago for a sight dot and refinishing haven't received it back. The putter was already in good shape with just two small scratches on the sole and I figured two months for the work tops as his website approximates 6 weeks with engraving. I've been trying to be patient only emailing him in mid April for a status update and at that time it was at the engravers. I emailed him just yesterday but haven't heard back yet.

 

If you have used Colbert recently is this a normal turn around time? Im just starting to get a bit nervous as the season is already in full swing and the season is so short in NY. I don't recall if I asked for an approximation of when it would be done but our last contact 6 weeks ago said he would do it as soon as it got back from the engraver and I don't think putting one dot on would take a long time. Thanks in advance.

See I had opposite. He had my putter back to me inside of two weeks. Did copper plating on a Cameron for me

Hmm you just have just beaten me then as he received my putter on 2/24. I didn't want to rush him either and still don't. I don't want a half a88 job done on it.

I think what bothers me most is that he responded immediately to sales questions but once he got my putter (and money) he went silent. The one question I asked at the 6 week mark and it took him a week to get back to me. I'm expecting another week turn around on the question I posed yestwrday too (ie when will it be done). I'd be fine in fact with a 4 month wait I just want some communication back my way.

I was having the sight for put on and a dark stainless refinish (along with paint fill). There's really little in the way of restoration needed with mine just a touch up of two small scratched on the sole where I tried to get the removable weights out and the tool slipped.

In any event he emailed me this morning and said he's gonna finish it up this week. I'll post pics when I get it back. I have no before but the putter was the standard black finish in the Newport line.

Kevin has been doing resto work a long time and is a stand up guy. No worries if your putter is in his hands.

I don't think the OP is saying he thinks Kevin is going to rip him off, he is simply worried about the delay. IMO part of being a "stand up" business owner is keeping your customers in the loop throughout the sales process, regardless of whether the $$ has exchanged hands or not. I had a similar experience with a customization from a highly respected individual. The person is a nice guy but unfortunately his lack of communication has turned me off for any future work. Hopefully it turns out well for you.

Nah, it never crossed my mind that I thought he might be ripping me off. He had enough feedback in my research that it was never in question. I posted this topic to see what turn around time others experienced and to see if my situation was an anomaly. And it appears as though it was an unusual since the entire process, including shipping, took almost 15 weeks.

I didn't want to be "that guy" and message him every week for status updates. But I felt as though after 12 weeks I had to press the issue a bit and politely ask him to finish it up. Which he did and I received it back on Friday. I gotta say that his work exceeded my expectations for how it turned out. The longer than expected turn around will not prevent me from using him again, nor will it prevent me from referring people to him. The pictures probably won't do this putter justice as I think it looks 10x better in person where you can really see the intricacies of his work. Originally I had the factory black finish on this and Kevin applied the sight dot along with his dark stainless finish. Couldn't be happier!
