Cara Banks.  Morning Drive and Golf Central are both unwatchable these days.  She is not the only reason for that, but shares much of the blame for it.

They are fine as commentators but it is a US Open, so why not have US commentators?

 

Before the ignorant pile in, I am an Aussie so no specific dislike from me with Aussie commentators.

I think Luke Elvy is a shocker. Garbles his words. Nitties is cool - he was quite a good pro golfer too but Elvy is just soooo bad.

There was a Kiwi as the main commentator on this weekend's British Amateur finals held in Ireland.

 

Don't get that choice either, plus he has a super strong Kiwi accent (that's not the same as an Aussie accent eg they pronounce 'six' as 'sex' - not ideal when describing some par 5 scores).

Jim Vance. I think if he doesn't say Tiger  every five or so minutes his head will explode. To continually bring up Tiger in tournaments he is not paying is annoying at best.

I thought that all of the announcers/commentators did a great job this weekend; DP Tour, PGA Tour, Golf Central and all the rest.

I thought the guy sitting in for Nance was pretty good.   Andrew Something.   Can't see him getting the gig full time.  He has a face for radio.

Andrew Catalon.  I was pleasantly surprised , after a few minutes in, I realized  there was something different going on.  He wasn’t annoying and distracting.  His commentary enhanced the golf, not the other way around.

Jim and Trevor are just so annoying. I don't understand why they feel the need to talk so quietly. The players can't hear you, guys. I wish I could turn their voices off and just hear the sounds of the golf.

That reminds me that I was watching the 1996 Masters and I did a double take when Sean Mcdonough came up as a back nine commentator. Always funny when guys I associate far more with college basketball on CBS show up doing the Masters.

His knowledge of the game is still outstanding. Still no, no way. I remember him putting his arm around Norman , another pompous Word not allowed , after Greggy’s meltdown at the Masters. It was so contrived. You just pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in Masters history. Shake the man’s hand and take the trophy.

I don't mind him so much as a host, but as an announcer he doesn't know when to talk and when to be quiet.  Switched to the Sky broadcast and it's so much better.

I'm sure you meant Jim Nance and your right. Not only this but he never says anything that might even remotely be controversial. Never critical of anything or any shot a player makes no matter how bad it was.
