There is no doubt that Chambers Bay is a course that is going to be one of the most notable tests of golf in U.S. Open history. Our 2015 contest has been called a test of "links-like" golf in that it will resemble the play that is seen in Europe's major test, The Open Championship.

The favorites coming in are the Irishman Rory McIlroy and your 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth. Another big story line to follow of course is 14x Major Champ Tiger Woods, coming off a rough stretch of golf and looking to rebound big. And last but not least is the perennial U.S. Open runner up Phil Mickelson. He has come up short at the U.S. Open more times than any other in history, and this years contest is shaping up to fit his game well. The course at Chambers Bay resembles that of Miurfield in the 2013 Open Championship in which Phil was victorious.

Who is your pick? How do you think the 2015 U.S. Open will unfold?

Mental strength a must to win at Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Surveying the landscape at Chambers Bay, it is clear that the USGA has arrived at the far end of the world.

Browned-out fairways. Dusty walking paths cutting through undulating dunes. Nearly 8,000 yards of beastly golf carved out of a seaside crater, with ashen bunkers that recall its gravelly origins.

Oakmont or Winged Foot, this ain’t. As one player described it while walking off the range Tuesday, Chambers Bay is like playing golf on the moon.

The U.S. Open is traditionally an examination in endurance, a 72-hole sweatbox that tests players as much mentally as physically. This week that notion is amplified, as players prepare to embark on a journey that will be part golf, part pinball.

Want to get at the pin tucked left on the par-3 third hole? According to Phil Mickelson, the best play is to bank it off the hill to the right of the green. Miss the target left on No. 1? Expect the ball to roll some 60 yards back down the fairway.

“You’re going to see some different things this week than you have probably any other major championship that we play,” Tiger Woods said.

I think it's going to be a great week.

as usual with most US opens, look for a well rounded game that makes a lot of pars.

Jim is always a threat, it depends how long the course is going to play.
Phil always seems to show in US Opens, maybe this is his year?
I think Rory and Tiger are going to silence some critics this week, but I don't see Tiger holding it together for 4 rounds even if he plays well.
I'd like Fowler but I expect to see him to throw up some big numbers he can't come back from
Jason Day has been playing well lately, I like him from the young and long camp.

But I'm looking for Spieth, Dufner or kutcher to take it this year.

Top is definitely video from Chambers Bay this week. I hope he just bangs 3 wood or less and Tiger's his way into contention on the weekend.

Is the US Open always played on this jacked up of a course. The more i hear about it, them more I find myself saying, "Damn," or, "Wow." Saw Rory putting in his proacice round---the breaks, and mounds and curves on that green were insane! I can't wait to watch this tournament. I wonder if any players are used to playing on courses like this. Most PGA events are not on courses like this.

That's right, most PGA events are not on courses like this. It's a USGA event. They always play the U.S. open on a difficult track. Chambers is no exception and the players know it.

As I said on the previous thread, I haven't felt anticipation for any major for a good while as I feel for this event. The course looks spectacular and while there have been one or two whiners (isn't there always) the winner will think that it is a fantastic course. Sunday's leader-board will determine whether of not it was good, bad or indifferent.

Thanks for starting a new thread. I noticed that you added the 'appropriate' credits, lets hope we get past 3 pages eh.

A couple of stalkers were hounding kemau about the lack of credits for the original authors of some of the stuff he had used to create the OP on that and another thread. He probably thought it wasn't worth the hassle. Shame as he obviously put a lot of effort in to it.

The Aussies, the Brits and to a lesser degree the Euro boys love playing these courses.

Would Scott be considered a dark horse this week. No one has even mentioned him. Good from tee to green a solid long putter. I have seen a view interviews where players have said you need to be solid from 8ft and in, that's probably why.
I like Scott this week and I read that he has been there for 2 weeks sizing up the course and taking notes. Would not be surprised at all to see him on Sunday in the mix

Definitely lame. Kemau puts in work on these threads each week. Hopefully he comes thru and contributes to this one, that would be cool.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) — Not a day has gone by at this U.S. Open without seeing something new on the young course at Chambers Bay.

It was rare to see Woods at the course so late. Then again, he doesn't tee off Thursday until 2:28 PDT.A practice range that should have felt like a ghost town late Wednesday afternoon suddenly came to life when Tiger Woods arrived just as everyone was starting to leave. The grandstands were packed and photographers and TV crews crowded about. Woods will get a chance to watch the early starters on TV and see how Chambers Bay plays. Like everyone else tuning in, he'll also see some things not normally seen in a U.S. Open:

TRAINS: There will be plenty of them, rolling across tracks between the golf course and the water. They don't exactly come into play, but players will have to get used to the idea of them making some noise on the back nine. Expect to see them often as Fox goes all out for to show a prime time audience what a unique place Chambers Bay is.

THE TREE: That's right, there's only one tree on Chambers Bay, and it doesn't even come into play. The lone fir tree was rescued in the building of the course, and rescued again when someone took an axe to it. If you think Fox will be enamored with the trains, the tree won't be far behind in grabbing screen time.

GREENS THAT AREN'T GREEN: The USGA gave Pinehurst No. 2 highlights of brown a year ago for the U.S. Open. That was nothing compared to the brown hues of Chambers Bay, which contrast to the rest of the lush, tree-lined Pacific Northwest. There's nothing wrong with the greens, in fact the course was designed to look this way. The reason is the fine fescue grass used throughout the course, including the greens. As the course is choked from water to make it firm and fast, the grass quickly loses its green shade for a brown look.

QUIRKY BOUNCES: Players spent the days before the Open trying to figure out the crazy bounces on the links-style course. That meant in some cases aiming 20-30 yards away from a pin or running the ball up to avoid it bouncing away. The player best at this may end up holding the Open trophy Sunday night.

NO FANS: Yes, there will be fans, thousands of them in an area that has eagerly embraced the national championship. But viewers will go long stretches without seeing many of them because large sections of the course where fans can't line fairways like they would in most tournaments. Instead, many will be in grandstands, including a huge one to the right of the 18th green that is reminiscent of British Open courses.

NEW NETWORK: Of all the things viewers will find different in this year's U.S. Open, this may top the list: If they tune their TV like they have in the past, they'll wind up watching "Days of Our Lives" instead of Thursday's opening round. That's because the tournament has a new home in Fox, which wrestled away broadcast rights from the partnership of NBC and ESPN with a 12-year contract.
As part of their pitch, Fox executives promised innovation. So assuming viewers can find the right channel, they'll be treated to aerial shots from drones, 3-D graphics and other novel ideas that should make this championship look unlike any other.

Looking forward to see what the coverage is like. I wonder what the difference between the morning and afternoon scoring will be?

A couple of stalkers were hounding kemau about the lack of credits for the original authors of some of the stuff he had used to create the OP on that and another thread. He probably thought it wasn't worth the hassle. Shame as he obviously put a lot of effort in to it.
Eh, what actually happened is a couple of posters pointed out yesterday in one thread that kemau inappropriately copied and pasted an entire article into said thread (something he does with some regularity here) and instead of doing the right thing (editing his post to provide only an excerpt and link of the article) he threw his toys out of the pram and demanded that the mods close both that thread and his original Open thread (a thread in which nobody had said anything about his copy and paste job).

As for him putting a lot of effort into his tournament threads, is it really that difficult to go to a couple of websites (pgatour.com/usga.com, etc) and copy and paste the work of others?
