CSagan's stop sliding log

CSagan

You almost never see secondary axis tilt at address when watching pros other than the amount the right hand is lower than the left on the shaft.

Longer the club a little tilt is good. I got off by having no tilt away with driver and stuff.

Iteach always wanted more of a tripod setup on irons which I liked.

Ok. My lesson was moved to today since my pops came in town for a couple days.

So I wasn't really sliding, but more my upper body going backwards on the downswing...causing some funky legwork amongst a thousand other things. He wants me to work on getting the body motion down first then we'll move on to the next thing. The swing on the right my shaft was steepening just a tad coming down and the one on the left shallowed just a hair...all from not hanging back yanking on the handle.

Ghwc4ZX.jpg

So my drill is a sorta GGswingtip type look with left shoulder going down and around on downswing...hips look like they go away from target a hair and then pushing off right leg through impact.

Also I'm lucky enough now that I live in the country that I can have my own range! Ordered 600 zstar practice balls online and I was mowing down the pasture today after the lesson. I think I'm just gonna put one flag back near the house and keep a nice landing area mowed short and bounce around in the pasture depending on what club I want to hit. Should be a lot less maintenance during the growing season keeping it mowed. Now just need a picker attachment for my 4 wheeler....

Had a great lesson today with Shaun. Got in the groove just hitting inside watching the camera replay every time and looking at trackman and swing catalyst #'s every swing. Asked him to make me a recap vid like Dana did for DrewTaylor. I think those really help to go back and look at for reference.

I was having a little bit of a tough time getting to my left side still. Shaun helped me understand pressure vs weight using swing catalyst....and drew it out for me and really helped me understand what I needed to do on the backswing to be able to pivot better. Really started to click after that visual.

My fav pic from today:

AnFCdaQ.jpg

Shaft shallowed out naturally somehow. No yanking the handle down and no goat humping resolved that issue, the cause and effect probably.

Going to keep going back as much as I can.

Big changes way to go

Thanks Heath. Come down let's catch some bass.

Great to have you in today Marc.

Likewise. See you soon.

Could you share the two step drill he mentions at the end of the video? My swing looks a lot like your before swing so that's why I'm asking. Thanks

Just tried to type it out and it seemed hard to convey. I'd have to make a video of it. Will try and do that today.

Great work. Looks loads better

Thanks Dave!

Here ya go DD. Full swing back to top. In transition I feel more weight on left foot..maintain left side bend longer...hips rotate and pelvis feels like it goes away from target...then the last step is pushing up and rotating through. Its kind of like a hacker move that swings over the top with the shoulders except I don't allow my arms and club to kick out towards ball.

Did a bunch of those...then did some full slow motion swings hitting the ball...and then ramped it up gradually.

Thanks for taking time to make that! I am sitting here doing air swings and I can't understand the pelvis to the right idea. Whenever I try to do it my weight all goes to my right foot and I think it would be a disaster in a full swing. Will try at the range tonight.

You're welcome. Would love if someone else could improve watching me do weird stuff haha.

Yeah the key for me is getting a ton of weight onto my left foot while I get left shoulder more towards target and hips away from target. Then once you get halfway down you push up and rotate. Weird move to learn by yourself I would imagine. Also eventually you'll need to back off of the exaggeration.

Hit 100 balls today. About half just doing the chip shots like above video then half full shots.

Here's a face on and dtl from today. It's not perfect but hitting a lot better.

Thanks for watching dd. Always welcome to questions.

Cool I will keep trying that drill / feeling. Don't want to hijack your swing thread but I posted my attempts today here: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1417858-confused-about-left-wrist-and-clubface/page__gopid__14711636#entry14711636

If you have a chance to take a look. Feel like my golf game is your bad version. 6 hdcp w the swing flaws you are working on :)

Ha. I didn't even play to a 6 hdcp last year probably. DIdn't break 80 once...although I didn't play much and when I did it was from the tips at a tough course. That hang back flip with a bad back is no good for me/my game.

I'll hop in your thread and take a look. Feel free to hijack any time.

I wouldn't have guessed you were a 6 handicap with that swing! Would've thought lower! You're gonna drop some strokes for sure next season. The changes look great. Seems like Shaun knows his stuff. Keep up the good work!

Well I've been to scratch and back a couple times...but lost interest last year and had problems physically. Definitely looking to shoot some good stuff next year. Hopefully we both can meet our goals. Maybe I should make some.

He is being modest, he was a plus 2 at one time.

If I could turn back time...if I could find some waaaay. I'm not the first person to lose his way/mind. Haha

Went up to David Toms' place today to practice some. Shaun had a few and had me practicing these little half speed drills getting the shaft to shallow on the downswing. Hitting little 8 irons about 100 yards. I feel like the club just falls behind my butt on the downswing and I just make the pivot motion from the prior drill. Will just hit these until the cows come home...wait they are there every morning...hmm. I'll just keep grinding these..how bout that.

You are gonna laugh at this...when you said you felt pelvis going away from target I took that to mean that it stayed *facing* away from target in the downswing. Obv that got me all messed up. I woke up today and it hit me like a ton of bricks, you meant hips turn and pelvis goes away from target (aka *behind* you once hips start to open). Got to the range this morning and it was like magic. My hips were sliding way less and if I got the clubface anywhere near square the ball went a mile with easy half swings.

Now that is funny. Glad it worked out. That's what hard about reading stuff. If you can do that feel and get some good weight on left foot in transition you'll be cooking with crisco.

I watched this video by Shaun last night. Worked on what he says at the end. Rotating Left femur and knee from the top without hips sliding forward. Was really able to post up nicely on left leg. Have another lesson on Tuesday hopefully it will look better..Maybe I can get back in the gears suit.

Nice video, CSagan. The issue here, I think, is the synchronization of two orthogonal actions of the pivot - tilting and turning. The problem with the gold lady is that she finished the tilt action way before the turn. The tilt, in my opinion, is the encapsulation of the lower body actions of weight shift, flexion and extension. Ideally, considering the tilt action alone, the pivot should be going into flexion before p6 - the squat, and then into extension pulling the hands up after p6 - the so called parametric acceleration. The gold lady golfer's problem is not just the lack of turning but also she went into full extension before the p6. So, the fix is to moderate the synchronicity of the two pivot actions.

I have followed this thread and have been admiring your powerful pivot action after p6. I, now, prefer for my own swing, the unhindered positive flows of the two actions from beginning of the down swing to the finish.

Ty. Pretty technical post there but I agree with you. Have to squat and turn..Once hips are open at p6 you can really extend up. That's something I'm working on too. Long road. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks. It's fun stuff. Where do you live?

It's about a 5 hour drive for me, but I have a friend that lives there. Talked about doing a trip down last year.
