Staying Connected/Swinging Left

Long time lurker, first time poster on the instruction forum.

 

I have always struggled "swinging left" and staying connected into the ball and through swing. I have been working on a lower pull fade shot, which should indicate I am keeping my arms with my body. Also after reading the Arm Swing Illusion thread and applying it to my swing, I have been working to get my arms and hands out of my swing.

 

It is a real struggle hitting with my pivot. I am a 3 handicap and have always been told I have a good swing, but I am not sure how to correctly hit the ball with my body. I find myself spinning around out of balance.

 

I am open to suggestions, drills, comments.

Here what works for me when i have balance issues

1. make sure weight is on balls of my feet at address, not on toes and not on heels
2. make sure i dont let my upper half shift towards target on downswing

If i do these two things i get that picturesque in-balance finish we all seek

Awesome! I've always struggled with my spine angle moving towards the target especially on partial shots.

Really good swing. I would caution against trying to take the hands and arms out of the swing and hit the ball with your "pivot". If it works for you then by all means go for it, but I know what it did to me and it nearly ruined my golf swing. At that time several years ago I was a 3 handicap also and rapidly went up as I couldn't break 80 and shanked quite a few shots per round.

Guys that look like the hit the ball with their pivot, ie Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, most are firing their arms as hard as they can and the pivot reacts. Read what those two guys have to say about their own swings, they both try to swing their arms, they are not using their pivot with passive arms and a lot of times they are the two poster boys for the "pivot driven swing" gurus.

I know once I was taught how to use my arms and shoulders correctly, my pivot works a lot better with no stall but it is all because I am firing my arms, not the other way around.

Thanks guys. I will be cautious but so far I like the fact I don't have to think about using my hands to square up at impact.

Shoulder turn a bit steep going back. Makes the right shoulder drop in transition and working left is hard with that.

Is a steep shoulder turn due to setup/posture? I'm working on standing taller at setup.

This is interesting, please explain further if possible. How did you change your mindset to think arms first? Is the a thought process you use? Sorry if this is a thread jack but I am curious.Thanks

Standing taller will do one of two things. Make you turn flatter in relation to the ball because your spine is more upright.

Make you turn too steep as your body wants to be in the same place at the top that it was. <<<<<

Standing taller will do one of two things. Make you turn flatter in relation to the ball because your spine is more upright.

What would you suggest as a good feeling to help from becoming too steep? For some reason it is tough for me to comprehend a flat or steep shoulder turn.

I watched your video this morning about shoulder turn angles. Seems like I need to focus on keeping my right shoulder lower going back?
