he isn't exactly driving the ball well at 43% of FWs over the first 2 rnds...i saw him go left, right, left, right during the first round.

You can say that again. Guess the shaft does not have the supposed "tight dispersion" affect everyone raves about. It just goes to show you, "...it's the indian, not the arrow." This is just an opinion, so everyone keep their panties straight. :bigwhack: LOL!

in this case, it is definitely the indian, not the arrow. one of the announcers was commenting on how his arms are out of sync with his body.

I'll freely admit I am not on the Ozik bandwagon... but from what a saw on TV coverage...Els is out of sync, actually his swing looks like mine on a good day...and that's not very good for someone of his caliber.

even if it a Matrix shaft does fit your game, unless you're a touring pro (like Ernie) who makes a living off playing golf...spending $500+ on a shaft is just ridiculous IMO. of course, i'll get the "hey, if you've got the money and want to spend it that way" comments but i put $1000 shafts, $700 putter headcovers, $5000 putters and $25k fitting sessions all in the same boat...one i'm not on.

It is almost impossible to remember how tragic a place the world is when one is playing golf. -Robert Wilson Lynd

On topic... I hope Ernie drives the ball better for the rest of the week, Ozik or otherwise.

Off topic for the title, but on topic for the thread... everyone has different priorities for their golf equipment, be it headcover or shafts; some people think that $100 is pricey for a shaft, some think $300 is a bit high, and some find $1000 to a bit spendy. Good to hear opinions either way, that way we all have company regardless of how much we shelled out  . If I had my bag set, I'd probably tick it out with some new headcovers etc, but for the moment, I'm not really fussed. I'm too busy changing my mind about my next set of irons :bigwhack:

Well what we have is mis information. Only the TP series is $1000.00, The Code and X-Cons series are under $350.00. Now that being said the Code 6 in my driver is WELL worth the $$$ for ME. I needed a shaft that did a better job at controlling side spin and the Ozik does it better then any other shaft for ME.

Before you start to bash it, demo it for yourself and see if it works for YOU. I personally tried the shaft on a whim and fell in love with it.

Matrix makes plenty of good shafts that dont cost $300+. I have one of their leat expensive, the MFS 30+ in an R7 TP and it works great. The shaft came to me exactly as stated on CPM and the the spine was marked for easy flo.

The tip triming is what really dials the shaft in. You can afford to trash a few to find what works for $33 each.

easy fellows... lets keep it polite.

I agree. Let's stop talking like females (myself included) about another site and talk about Ernie and his horrific driving! I hope he has a FT-i in the closet for tomorrow!

how about not sexist too :bigwhack:

In perspective, if Ernie is out of sync with his swing, no shaft or tour stamped club is going to correct that. You can't logically build a case against this shaft based on one pro and one tournament's results. If the pros did that, they would be changing clubs every other week. I have no opinion on the shafts because I haven't tried them yet. I am not expecting miracle results. I've heard mixed results with these shafts. I know from my experience that super expensive equipment doesn't guarantee that I am going to play a ton better than playing with moderately priced clubs.

I used to spend thousands of dollars a month buying and selling tour equipment, in search of the clubs that are going to help me shoot under par every time. I realized after spending a lot of money that is not the solution. Here is what I've learned

1. If I am properly fitted, I can play almost any brand of club with similiar results.

2. Retail is the same as tour except TM, you have to get the TP line. Granted some of the tour heads have been altered on the van to meet players needs. Those same alterations can be made with a good clubmaker to a retail head. Don't let anyone fool you on this one. I've interview a bunch of OEMs and they all confirm that retail is the same as tour. Listen to our live chats and dismiss the garbage you have been fed for years.

3. All this hype about expensive clubs is for the most part all hype. There is no end all club or shaft out there, that is going to allow you to hit perfect shots every time.

4. Buying the hyped up equipment doesn't guarrantee an extra 15 yard off the tee. I hit the ball farther with playing as light weight of clubs as possible and having the right launch angles.

5. When the information seems to good to be true, guess what? It is. I've heard the same people hype up the flavor of the month for years and the majority of their information isn't true.

6. There are plenty of lower and mid priced shafts that are awesome.

Be wise and learn from me. Don't believe everything you hear, even by a group of people, try the equipment out for youself to make a informed and unbiased decision. Go get properly fitted by someone reputable and honest. My philosophy used to be buy the most expensive clubs out there, now it is make the smart decision and spend the least amount of money to get the best game. Don't be fooled into believing, you can buy a game, that is the farthest thing from the truth. If you buy without trying the club or shaft, check your sources. Just because someone claims something, doesn't always mean it is true.

If you've got the cash who cares. Lessons, with a good teacher, and proper fitting would be more valuable in my opinion.

Why do the Matrix worshippers continue to feel the need to justify their product? Everyone gets a little thin-skinned about it.

Nobody had to justify Speeder 757 when it was the hottest shaft out there. Same with Mitsubishi Diamana. Why? They had a proven track record on Tour. Multiple victories on Tour.

I personally have tried the $1000 shaft and it feld dead to me. It was straight, but not longer than my current combo. I'll save $875 and put it somewhere more effective. If you think you NEED a $1000 shaft, you NEED to get lessons. And if you are willing to shell out an extra $200 for a paintjob, you are officially burning money.

Call me when Matrix gets a major or two in their victory column.

Ernie will be back to the 757 soon enough.

For the very few Ozik shafts to be sold around the various golf sites, there sure are alot of them being sold off. Either the fittings for the Ozik shafts are way off or the honeymoon with their Ozik shaft is short lived.

I've had several Ozik pulls for sale and priced them well below what the going price was for them, people over here didn't seem to be all that interested in them.

I had new Ozik X-con 7's and had those priced below any price I've seen anywhere, and didn't even get a nibble. I had a very new Studio 94 for under $150 new and didn't even get a PM. I had an Ozik Altus Hybrid brandnew for under $130 and none at all responded with any interest what so ever.

Now do any here feel that the Ozik line of graphite shafts is overrated in anyway?? The proof is in the pudding. This just isn't what I'm saying, this is what I've experienced over here at Golfwrx.

p.s. Ernie played his best golf with a Speeder 757. :bigwhack:

You need Lime Green...no...wait, that was last year. You need CANDY APPLE GREEN. Not only will you gain 10-20 yards off the tee, you'll look like you're swinging an Appletini. Funny how there are already pulls for sale.

With the amount of the upcharge, I would hope that it comes with a guarantee of 13/14 fairways/round.

Just to let you guys in on a secret, as a professional club fitter and someone who runs a retail shop, if someone came in my shop and ordered a thousand dollar shaft in hopes that it would help their game, I'd place the order, and as soon as they were gone have a nice chuckle. You know what if golf is your thing, more power to you, its no different than running up a big bar tab, except it aint gonna kill brain cells. I've tried almost every shaft I can get my hands on Epic, 757, Axis, Rombax, etc. My clubhead speed is about 125 with a ball speed around 190, and I've hit the longest drives of my life with the VS Proto, nothin special. IMO buy a $200 shaft and take the money you saved to pay for a nice little golf trip and enjoy the game your spending all this money on, or maybe some lessons.

When I was in Akron watching the Wednesday practice round at Firestone last year, I was practically the only one watching players tee off on number 13. Justin Leonard just got off the par three and was making his walk towards me next to the tee box. I asked him, "Thats a nice club you got there, I believe I have the same shaft in my driver." Justin replied as he took a look at his driver, " Yeah this is a....Dee-a-man-a? Deee-A-mana?

I bet you any money half those guys out there have no clue what they have in their hands other than the fact they hit it the best...and I can assure you that most of them have not spent a dime on a shaft, so maybe they don't know whats the considered the best, and the worst.

Let me defend buying a $1000 shaft. Even though I have not dropped so much on one of those Ozik shafts, I believe buying a piece of equipment can atleast rule out one variable in a bad shot....the equipment.

It is funny how we are so into equipment compared to Tour players. I have played with a few and they are absolutely clueless. They find something that works and go out and shoot 65 and call it a day.
