Srixon 'Soft Feel' $19/box balls performing the same as premium balls

Grabbed a dozen of these, found that on driver and irons I have lost zero distance between the XV or whatever it is I usually play and ProV. They fly fine into the wind, and I'm spinning them back with my short irons and having no problem vs a premium ball getting them to bit on approach shots and chips.

So whats going on here? I'll play the cheap ball all day...but what could it be about this ball that is so close to a premium ball? I look at the back of the box and they claim it doesn't have the best approach and greenside spin, but it sure seems to. Driver for me is about 280 and 6i flies 195, so my swingspeed isn't the highest but it isn't slow either so also judging by the box the ball wouldn't be geared towards me.

Either way just wanted to share if others are looking for a ball to try, not like these are new or anything but I guess they could be overlooked. Unless I've just been duped and every decent golfball is going to perform well at this point and its all marketing.

6 hdcp, 112 ss, I have used 2 piece distance - soft always, I hit them the best... can't spin them back, but can
stop them....

If they work for you, they work for you use them....

Good for you!

I have been sucked into the Pro V1 cult and can't seem to break that habit. But my handicap has stayed a 5 or 6 for the past 25 years playing balls like the Precept Extra Spin and Titlesist HP2 Tour back in the day. My swing speed is 96-99 mph most days so I probably should be playing a soft core ball and see what happens. My concern is maybe I won't genereate the spin with a non-urethane covered ball to hold the green.

I guess the true test will be a day when the course is really baked out to see how they react on the greens, this was under pretty average conditions

This...I also find a difference with partial wedge shots, especially if you play an aggressive/forced style of pitches and chips around the green. If the greens were always soft, I would not bother w/ urethane.

The soft feel is a good ball for what it is but it doesn't have tour performance around the greens. There is a huge difference between getting a ball to check on a short chip and stopping a ball on a dime or zipping it back from close distances.

I picked up 2 dozen for 30.00 on sale at Golftown and have limited testing with ball under my belt. Played 3 rounds with it .
What a have found is I am loving the distance , Appears to have low spin and very straight of the tee, great soft feel off all clubs .
Approach shots hold the green with decent bit, with a little roll out.
Could easily become my every day ball. Impressed with early testing.

They're so cheap it's definitely proved itself as my go-to ball if I'm playing a course with tons of trouble. I can get them to check pretty well on short shots. Had a very dry day and I can still stop them on greenside shots, short pitches. It's good enough, doesn't bite 100% the same as a Pro-V but it's so close.
