Looks like Rory might be good to go for the PGA!

Looks strong... Think we will see Mr. Rory McIlroy teeing it up next week at Whistling Straights?

I don;t think it is a coincidence he posted this on his Instagram account this morning. He played very well here in 2010 and was in contention on the back 9 on Sunday. Would love to see him

I applaud his determination, but I just don't see him teeing it up. No need to rush back IMO. I believe he should be thinking in the long term. This injury takes a while to heal normally. Couple that with a game where you're loading up as heavy as he does on his left, he's asking this injury to give him problems later.

I don't understand isn't a grade 3 thing where you need surgery to re attach?

I'm glad he's looking close to returning but it can't be as bad as he/other people were saying

Looks to me like he can support a full weight transfer to his left side. Also doing while on balance blocks and with a medicine ball...

Looks solid to me, but we shall wait and see

Weight transfer in a gym with a medicine ball is just a tad different than walking a 5 mile hilly, uneven course everyday and playing championship-level golf. As others have said, I'll believe he's coming back when there are pictures or reports of him actually playing on a golf course. If he was actually ready to return, he'd announce that he's actually playing next week, not posting pictures of himself doing rehab work. And his team wouldn't have debunked the reported rumor of him playing at Whistling Straits this weekend.

Good to see Rory working back, but I'll be shocked if he plays next week.

There's no way he's not playing after seeing that video. I've played sports with bad ankles and there was no one I was able to do what he's doing in the video.

[/quote]I had a grade 3 on the right side, all three major ligaments (I forget the name of them). I asked the doc how they would be able to reattach while moving around. He told me it's not much different than how two sides of a cut grow back together, and the brace was to minimize movement while still allowing a little bit of movement so that it forms a stronger bond. I guess there's nowhere near as much stress on them as there are on tendons where a muscle is pulling it away.

Fortunately mine was on my right side (I'm a righty), but it still bothers me two years later, although I'm quite a bit older than Rory (I'm 50 right now).

Course he will, has to at least try. TW won the US Open with a piece of femur popping through his leg so this shouldn't be a big deal.

4 days will be tough, though. Is a caddie allowed to carry the player?

Where is kevcarter when you need him?

You are operating under the idea that his injury was worse than it might have actually been.

I have played high level sports for a long time and seeing those movements with control and zero strain, he is good to go or very close to it. He very well could reinjure himself out there but I would say it is more probable than not that he plays next week

I have injured my left ankle like this. There are three ligaments on the outside of the ankle and I believe he injured just one of them which is common. I said before, six to eight weeks to recover. The combination of his age, training and the possibility that he heals quickly, which we see in all sports, means there is a good chance I will see him at Whistling Straights.

The final verdict will come at the end of the week. One part of this I did miss is that in talking to a pro, I learn that about 80% of stress is on the left ankle for a right handed golfer. This does make this decision important although references to career-ending reprocusions seem too extreme to me.

If he's playing already his injury was FAR less serious than he made it out to be as a rupture wouldn't allow him to compete a month later.

Watch video of Jordan Spieths swing and watch his left ankle action. Imagine if he didn't have a healthy left side?! The left ankle is extremely important for a right handed golfer no doubt

I only want to see him play if he's 100%, the last thing he needs is to either cause more damage or injure another part of his body from the compensation.

There are plenty of athletes across all spectrums of sports that appear healthier than they truly are while they are rehabbing an injury. Look good in rehab, and once the actual play starts, you either re-injure it or you are playing at well below 100% physically. You see it all the time, no matter the sport, especially with leg/ankle injuries.

The only way to know how he truly looks physically is to see him actually hitting golf shots, and we havent yet. Don't get me wrong, if he's ready to play, great...just call me skeptical. I will still be very surprised to see him in the PGA next week.

Yeah I agree. His game has gone to another level after ditching titleist. His Nike gear has made him a far better player.
