TAYLORMADE R15 TP & AEROBURNER TP DRIVER HEAD TO HEAD.

Current gamer R15 TP 9.5* with UST Elements Chrome 7F5T.

Challenger Aeroburner TP 9.5* with Speeder 661 Evolution TS X Stiff.

Conclusion... The king is dead, long live the king!

The Aeroburner TP has taken the driver spot in my bag. Before today I kind of liked the feel of my R15 but hitting it head to head with the AB TP it was like hitting a forged iron and a cast iron. The R15 felt like a bag of spanners in comparison to the rewarding feel of the AB. There was not much in it distance wise on good hits with both maxing out in the 280 yard range today... but slight miss hits were much better with the AB. The only issue I had was that the AB launches a tad higher than I would like. I pegged it down a little and it flattened the flight out a wee bit so it's not a major concern just something to work on at the range. It feels very well balanced and sits with an open face which for me is superb as I hate the ball going left. My good strikes were high and pretty much straight which is what I look for in driver. When I'm a little off I prefer a fade to a draw. The R15 on its day is a very good driver but I find it hard work when my swing is slightly off. If I could change one thing about the Aeroburner it would be for it to have an adjustable hosel so I could tweek the loft and alter the launch... but the fixed hosel is probably why the AB feels so good so I will live with it and work on my set up to get my desired ball flight.

Conclusion both are very good drivers but I think the AB TP edges it in feel and forgiveness for me. Distance on good strikes is pretty much the same. That's on course testing with gps to measure. I might try to get on the launch monitor this week to get some numbers with it but the AB TP will be in my bag for the rest of this season.

Arise King AB the 1st.

AB TP 10.5*/ Di6S user here. Fantastic driver and I bet I can make it even better with a 661S or og Blueboard.

661S is next.

BTW, the AB TP 3hl/757S I have is the highest launching, longest, best performing 3 wood I've ever hit.

MONSTER!

I currently game an original rbz tour 14.5 w/ AD Di8 stiff which I really like. I'm tempted to try the AB 3 woods but I feel it would be changing just for the sake of it.

Same here.....RBZ Tour 13 with Diamana 'ahina 70 S......she has survived all challengers...and I have stoped looking to change it out.

I'm kind of anti Taylormade for all the usual reasons, but hit the Aeroburner driver a couple weeks back and just loved it. Wound up just getting the 3HL fairway for now (I already had a G25 in the bag and a JPX 850 in the mail, lol) but I think that whole series really is special.

Update...
I played another 7 holes tonight with 2-4 tee shots off each tee. I'm very happy with this driver. Im not claiming its the longest or lowest spinning driver I've ever used but it suits my swing and I'm finding the sweet spot time after time... With my r15 I struggled with strikes low on the but so far with the aeroburner I'm finding centre face and up. I listed the R15 last night on ebay and it sold this morning so I'm glad the AB TP is performing.

I have an AB 9 bent to 9 1/2 with DI7s, its truly awesome. Definitely needs teeing lower than SLDR, but that's probably just because the face is shallower. I loved my SLDR 430 12, still do in fact, but the AB is definitely as long and seems to be as low spinning, without the lack of forgiveness. I play both at 44 3/4 at D5 and so the comparison is easy and side by side. One thing for sure though, the AB in white next to the SLDR 430 in grey makes the AB looks enormous. I hit the R15 430 and couldn't find anything to mke me want to change, plus it launched so much higher, yet the AB is a completely different animal.

The AB 3HL is also a great club. I have the Stage 2 Tour 3HL too which has been with me since launch. I wasn't looking to change and had I not been given the AB then I wouldn't have changed. That said, the AB has now earned its place in my bag in spite of the fact that the stage 2 tour has an adjustable hosel.

I haven't hit the AB Rescue range, instead opting for the R15 rescue, simply based on shape and size. The entire AB range is great, but I'm not sure its getting the aclaim is deserves.

Today I played my first 18 holes with the AB TP. very impressive, I hit 5 out of 5 fairways on the front 9 all decent strikes and decent distance. I block faded a drive on 10 it to some trees had to pitch out, horrible miss hit on 12 low heel which finished in the right semi. Best drive of the day on 14... The Aeroburner line is a big step in the right direction reminds me of the superb Burner 07 & Tour burner.

On a side note this was the first time I've walked 18 holes in 2015. I had back surgery in February (couldn't walk in December & January) so have been slowly building up to it. I have done a few 18 holes with the aid of a buggy but normally i just walk 7 or 9 holes. Can't wait to start playing competition golf again next year.

Because of poor sales (my personal guess) it's a shame that we did not see a 8.5 head released at a later date as they have with past heads. A 8.5 head with a deep face to boot.

I have owned a few 9.5 retail heads and a Tour 9....loved them all but just really need a lower lofted 9 degree (bent open) and a much lower price range before I dip my toes back in the water again.

Never gave the R15 much of a chance, so I have really no comment other than Jason Day sure hits his well and straight too!

I went through exactly the same thing - I had surgery February 16th. I am still having a difficult time walking and playing but I'm doing well with a cart. I wish you continued health and good play!

TM Tour Dept. have as low as 8.0 measured but labelled as 9.0 but the face is too open for most and so they bend the 8.0 closed a little and bring the loft up. I have a 9.0 that started just a tad lower loft than 9 degree that they bent closed to 9.5ish, so the face isn't wide open anymore. One of the big criticisms of the AB was how 'right' biased it was because the face was open.

For me its a great club and very under rated.
