Accra iron shafts ... Any users?

Very common (and easy) to taper a .370" to .355", guys on this forum do it regularly. Just have to carefully file or sand the very 1/2" of the tip and test fit as you go. Most graphite manufacturers iron shafts start life as .370" and have basically what equates to a pencil sharpener to turn them down to .355".

Oh man. I wish I didn't see this. Now you will be causing me to spend more money.

I guess common sense would prevail like this with graphite shafts. The last few years browsing eBay I'd see shafts at .370 and wished they were .355.

So basically just tip trim the shaft like you do .370 shafts, "pencil sharpen" then cut to length?

Thanks. An X should play more stout than a SX.

I'm trying to ascertain if the Accra plays stiff to flex like say the Crazy shafts. That'll help me make a less calculated punt on flex. Thinking of the icwt95 now.

As I've mentioned on other forums, I don't find Crazy stiff to flex, at all. In fact it's the opposite.

Have you noticed big difference between the 90i and 100i? I currently play Miura CB57 with Paderson IMRT 110 and want to build a set of Miura TC201 with Accras; i'm kind of hesitant in going with the 100i vs the 90i as nowhere to test them around here! CB57 and TC201 have similar headweights, will be using same grips so dunno if should go down by 10g or 20g as funnily i had some good results with the 80i I tried couple months ago!

I haven’t tried the IMRT’s, so can only comment on the Accra 100i’s. I tested 90, 100 and 110is last year, and found the 100is to be both buttery solid and neither soft nor stout. I can swing smooth for the most part, but the 100i shaft easily handles it when I go hard. Also have reshafted my wedges with the SP 125s with similar results. I was coming from the Aldila NV 105-Pro’s which were the best graphite iron shafts I’d tested over the years. The Accra’s feel like another step up with just as much control, but more buttery smooth feel.

I had some good results with the 80i but fitter didn't have at that time the 90,100 and 110i for me to set. Building a new set with Miura TC201 heads (Have the CB57s with my Padersons) and need more consistency and something that can handle better my aggressive swing. Also considering the 95 icwt.

How would you compare the 90i,100i and 110i? (Golf Champion requires a fitting to test them but I dont wanna pay 150-200$ just to hit some swings with them!)

What made you go for the 100i?

Wasn't the 125 wedge a really large jump in weight coming from the 100i in your irons?

thanks

Updating thread:

I did a fitting recently and tried a number of graphite shafts. The best for sure was ACCRA.  The iCWT 75 and 95. The 115 messing around was stout...!  I paired the shafts with Mizuno Pro 255 heads.  *Currently playing Modus 105 stiff

Both shafts felt awesome. To me they do play stiffer to flex then you would expect or should say you can go after it and not worry about loosing the head.  I think it is the design with the stiff butt end giving you better control and the tip being active through impact.

What is impressive is how the shaft can be tuned to your specific needed flex.  I was set in a "soft" 95 or "firm" 75 flex.  My swing speed with 6 Iron was averaging 83-84 so on the line of Stiff/Reg.  In the end the 75 tuned to a "Stiff" regular provided the best numbers wise.   The 95 tuned to a "soft" stiff was also great but both had the accuracy the same the 75 gave a few more yards with my swing release.

The one thing I did notice was the iCWT design with the lighter shafts sure did not make it feel to lite in the hands.  Both felt very very close to the 105s I play now.  Very easy to feel the head and control the release.

Looking forward to getting them and getting used to them.

There is a 4" tip section in the shafts that allow you to fine tune relative flex (more tipping but stiffer) but strait in there still is a base flex of the shaft of course.

I still have a set of 1st gen 95g icwt strait, and some 105g in gap/sand wedges.  ( I have added 10g lead to the 95 as I like a bit more weight myself and the 105g are not made anymore)

You sure you want to drop near 30g from your current shaft? I would think 95 is a good spot on paper 🙂

I was playing around with the idea of picking up a set of the 105's, because I found a set that was $100 on some used site, cant remember which. Thoughts on how stiff they play? TBH I currently play Rifle 5.0 shafts in a used set of MP32s with a 115ish mph swing speed, so it's not like I'm going to really overpower any shaft that I have. I just felt like it might be an interesting project and I've always wanted to try graphite shafts.

IIRC the gen1 105 TiMesh shafts were an X strait in but that is all relative to the model. I have some 105's in wedges, they feel just fine to me (50 and 56, I full swing them). Its a very smooth profile to me, and very stable to me (bit slower then you are speed wise)

For $100 a set, its a cheap experiment for sure and you can get it back, though at that speed do you generally prefer heavier shafts as it is? Not familiar with the Rifle line but a quick googs suggests that is a 130g shaft.

That's the first consideration IMHO: get the weight right and why the 95g ones I had strait in were not optimal for me once I did some shaft fitting work with a fellow.

If you wanted to check out the Accras, the blind internet paper fitting puts you in the 125g to start, or in the 2.0 series the 115 🙂

Again, yes i'm playing the rifle shafts, but i'm playing the 5.0's which is the regular flex version. Rifle is just a shaft made by PX. That's only 105g. I think I typically prefer heavier swing weights, but honestly I'm a big manipulator, so I really won't feel that much difference between shaft flex in terms of performance. Honestly the regular flex shaft probably forces me to load a little more. But I've always been interested in graphite iron shafts and how they feel, so I'm very tempted to try it out.  I also will be playing around with Lead tape in the process so that kick the weight up too.

Also on the same sight I found a set of i110's that are lacoste branded for 80 (which I might be able to negotiate down closer to 50). I might try to get those too just for the hell of it. I actually reached out to accra and they confirmed that they are legit which is hilarious.

Looking for any updated thoughts regarding Accra shafts.  I was recently fitted at PXG for gen6 0311P’s.  The best two performing shafts for me were the MMT 60a (which seemed strange to me with a 90 mph driver swing speed) and the Accra i70.  The Accra felt and performed great but there were two things I didn’t like about it: (1) it’s a $39 upcharge, and (2) what’s up with all of those shaft graphics (I know the shaft is made by Accra — I don’t need to be reminded 7 times every time I look down at it).

Still using mine.   No complaints.   Really good shaftt BUT I will always say get fit for it and the build to make sure MOI is matched properly.   I agree the graphics are way to much but dont notice then now.

I really do believe you need to be fit correctly as stated with this shaft.  IE: SW specifcially.

In my fitting I found I had a hard time feeling the head givne how much ligher they where in total.  Location of the head during the swing.  Have Mizuno heads which was nice as they have different head weights and when we went to the heavier head it was night and day for me.   I have let a lot of friends hit mine and the first thing is they say they feel fairly light but not that much BUT soon as they swing them the head weight kicks in and throws them off LOL

I had mine fitting set built by True Spec in AZ, which is fantastic fitter.   I would think PXG would know what is best too.

I tried the MMT shafts also and it was right there.  I got just a bit better overall total numbers with the Accra.

AND Yes they were pretty spendy to add to the build.

I've been looking for some 95 gram, or so, graphite iron shafts for a future project, but the price of new shafts is above my pain threshold.  Came across some Accra Icwt 2.0 i95's though, for about $30/shaft.  I'm a big fan of constant weight shafts, too, but I have no experience with Accra.  Does anyone know how these compare to Recoil 95's?

I still have the 1.0 icwt 95s in a set of Miuras that I practice with and periodically game. To me the Accras are a very smooth shaft, you can really go after it and if they are new shafts the 4" tip lets you dial them in any way you want. I prefer more weight and the older 105's are much harder to find (and 2.0 only does 95/115).  They are a smidge more lively than my MMT105 (SS1x) as regular gamers.

I saw the same ad from Mikes, looks like they have a few sets on their hands selling for 50%+ off, which is a great deal. I know you asked about Recoil comparisons I just have not had enough swings in Recoils to compare, but wanted to still encourage the project 🙂

Thanks for the great feedback.  I'll likely buy a set.  The graphics are horrendous, though.  I hope the backside is clean.

These shafts sound like a perfect opportunity to bust out the rarely used frequency meter.  Only, I have no clue what frequency to target anymore.  I'm slowing down these days.  Sounds like a big rabbit hole awaits me...

welp, gen 2 graphics wrap around, no getting around it with shaft orientation however I have one on my 4H and honestly I don't notice it at all playing it...only when I installed it 😄

The Gen1s do show up as pulls in 95g here and there, but NoS uncut is hard to find...for the price and the fact they are new, I'd deal with the looks myself. Check out Mikes web site directly as well, sometimes a smidge cheaper the then the bay.

I bought the shafts.

Mikes website was the same price, which is a bit of a bummer, considering he's going to pay eBay a 15% commission.

The graphics suck, but oh well.  These shafts seem to be the best deal going these days, as near as I've found anyway.

Back side is NOT clean. I have a 115g M5 I was going to put in a UT iron. Seems like a nice firm profile, I'm looking forward to it. But might have to run a little tape or paint down the topside. Little Accras all around. Don't know who thought that was a good look. Yikes.

The shafts just arrived.  You are so right; there are 8 "ACCRA" logo's printed around each shaft.  The shafts themselves are quite impressive; with a very nice paint finish, and the weight spread is within 2 grams.

I'm aiming to reshaft a set of Ping G425 irons.  Hopefully, the balance point is low enough to avoid the necessity of a bunch of extra head weight.

I like to go straight in, to start with. You never know how any particular head is going to interact with a given shaft, its flex/torque profile and weight, and your own swing! Even if swingweight is a little off, I like to try 'pure' first. 👍

Not my style.  I know what overall weight, and swingweight works for me, so the set doesn't leave the shop until it's in the acceptable range.

I don't mind tip weights with steel shafts, but hate them with graphite.  That's why I'm hoping these shafts are low balance point.  Ping's can be adjusted with the toe weight.  If anyone knows a cheap source, please share...

Hey this doesn't apply to the current question but i read a question you had a couple years ago and wonder if you got anywhere with it....  the idea was that you wanted to build clubs with similar cpm (ex 350)  - the respones dealt more with weight and such and something to the effect that the feel / response would not be satisfactory - you had mentioned that you see golfer purchase stiffer woods and softer iron which seems correct in many cases.  my thought it the chart should have a less steep slope - example instead of each club(1/2 inch) changing 4 cycles the slope should be more like 2 cycles per club.  so assuming the 6 iron was the (base) lets say a 6.0.  Your driver / 3 wood would be about 10 cycles stiffer being around 7.0 and your short irons wedges being 10 cycles softer - playing around 5.0.  Was this kind of your point and did you ever get any detailed feedback.  any other with knowledge that may see this i would love feedback.

Yeah, that was basically my point. And the more technology advances, especially in graphite, the more possible this becomes. Because you need stiffer AND lighter in the long clubs, and a softer AND heavier in the shorter clubs. At least I do. But when you make stuff heavier, it generally gets stiffer. We want the reverse of that. So I'm looking at about 135g in wedges going down to about 65g in driver. But trying to keep the flex feel similar throughout. It's working pretty well, but it's mostly mix and match on my own. I don't get anywhere near as soft as a 5.0  on the short end, it's 7.0 spinners or KBS high revs. Definitely a very firm TX in the driver and longer clubs. And my irons are C taper 130s which do have the shallower flex-slope you are talking about. Softer in the PW and firmer in the 4i than, say, DG.  The biggest discovery is that I need low torque throughout. Fun experiment. Welcome to it!

Reshafted my Ping G425's from ATW 2.0 S to Accra Icwt 2.0 i95's today.  Same length.  Swingweight came out within one point of stock.  Pretty good, considering these Accra's are a little lighter.  A nice build.

When gripping, the 2" wide tape was overlapping a little, further down the grip, suggesting the butt diameter is a little smaller than some other shafts.  I used Karma "midsize" grips, which, at 55 grams, are a very small midsize.  The additional rubber thickness works perfectly in this application.

I finally got to play with my Accra ICWT 95i shafts, and liked them.  They strike me as very much comparable to the Recoil 95 shafts I've been playing over the last few years.  Only thing, the graphics are truly brutal.  At times, my eyes strayed to the graphics while addressing the ball.  Not good.  I might have to come up with some method of covering the logo on the top line of the shaft.  Maybe some electrical tape?  NOT ideal...
