Favorite Golf Conditions

What conditions are your favorite to play in?

 

For me, I love playing golf in the rain or just after a rain has passed. I think the reason for this is because the course is wet and i can take dead aim at the pin from where ever i am at without being afraid of a rollout over the green. Fairways are also soft, and i tend to take huge divots, so it helps me cut through the ground easier. Dont get me wrong, i love the beautiful days with sun and birds chirping, but i always seem to play my best golf in the rain.

 

What do you guys prefer?

No waiting is a huge thing too. I want to play at my own pace. 45 degrees is freezing though!

I'd bump this up to about 60*, but yeah, overcast for sure and no waiting.

I typically like to go out right after it rains as well as I know the course will be fairly empty.

85°, partly cloudy, light wind, no gusts over 10 mph.

Ball goes farther, body is warm without being hot, and the wind cools you just enough so that the ground it not pressing heat on up to you.

Not today in NJ. It's 99 deg. I like early mornings. Lower temps. Greens are still wet...you can see previous putts lines in the dew.

Hot and Dry ... firmer and faster the course the better for me, more rollout and I prefer faster greens. Have to pay attention on every shot.

65* and overcast. Rain within the past day or so. It keeps the greens responsive without having the ground be mushy.

Oh, and no waiting... of course.

Rain yesterday, dried out enough to where my feet aren't wet and I get a bit of roll but greens still just a bit soft. Temp wise, keep it in the 70-80 range. I guess no wind is good. I like the sun out though, just like it high enough that is doesn't jack with my shots. That's the main thing I hated playing at sunrise when I used to go out real early.

Hey! We had a day sort of like that once here in Central Florida. Except it was 90 degrees, humid, and a 10 minute wait per shot. But other than those slight differences it was identical.

All kidding aside, I love cool with no crowd. Very serene.

Wow, great question. This is my 50th year of playing. I play year round pretty much, and that's in Central Ohio. So for me, I love the variety that golf gives you, that's what makes the game enjoyable. So that's probably a cop out answer. In reality, when it cools down in the fall, the trees have changed into mutiple colors, the smell of fall is in the air on a nice crisp morning, maybe a mist rising from the ponds, and a bit of dew on the fairways, and you've figured out all of your mistakes by playing all summer. By now the crowds have dropped off, because they are either watching other sports on TV, or they have no interest in playing because winter will soon be there anyway...delightful time to play

Hurricane force winds! Preferrably swirling so all I have to do is hit the ball off the tee and let the weather guide it to the hole. Of course I score an ultra low 19. (If I shot 18 I would have to quit, with 19 there is still room for improvement!)

I agree with you here! I am from MN so we kinda get the same fall. But I love going out in the early morning when he sun is rising and you see the dew everywhere. Its just cool enough to wear a light jacket and then by the time the sun is mid sky you need to take the jacket off but yet you havent broke a sweat this whole time. Its just perfect out.

Except for all the leaves making it impossible to find your ball, I vote for fall golf. Especially in the mountains.

Firm and fast is my favorite to play in. As far as temp summer I don't mind when it gets up there a touch, not that it gets super warm here, but I like the 80's in the summer. Fall I love the crispness in the air somewhere in the 50's, perfect cashmere weather

65 and raining. I love having the course all to myself, and I learned to play in Seattle. I feel right at home and have no issue getting out as a single with nobody in front of me and nobody behind. Heck it's also means that I can hit my long irons into greens and know that the ball will stop! Though I have been getting better with spin.

I love playing in the fall with the temps around 55-60. Light breeze. You can wear short sleeves and a sweater vest or short sleeve pullover.

Or spring/early summer when the wind is howling. I have a low ball flight and can compete with almost anyone around here when the wind is up.
