I dont think coach is telling the whole story here but I think the check he posted is legit. Looks like he pulled it from his online banking because on the top right it says "view back" which means it was actually cashed. Its not a picture of a check with his iphone or whatever.

I think its fair to conclude that Chris did actually write Dustin a check for $1800 in early august and Dustin is now in control of those funds.

I don't know whats true and whats not. But stranger things have happened. I mean if a guy is willing to sell gear he doesnt have to strangers it doesnt seem impossible that he'll not hesitate to rip off a buddy with a PayPal account. Desperation is a crazy thing.

All I know is that those that forked over their money will get it back. (Other than the gifter perhaps) and hopefully, if this guy is legit and he's the one getting burned, he gets his money back and this scammer gets whats coming.

If these two guys are one in the same and this is all some elaborate rouse, ill just say that you need to refund these folks immediately and get some help for whatever your issues are. Today. Right now. End rant

Do any of the scammed folks even have the right to pursue charges? Not sure how the law works here since PayPal is involved. They will issue restitution and should be the ones pursuing charges. The coach could for sure, probably a felony

What I certainly would not do is open yourself up to a potential lawsuit by contacting employers, etc.

ABA number on the Check is correct, although the space between the first and second numbers seems to be off a bit...but that is indeed the US Bank ABA number for WA state.

If you sold items for some one.. Why would you not write the check for the exact amount.. You wanna day it was 1780 and he let you keep 20 for your trouble.. I will semi buy that.

Of course not. The whole "using a different PayPal account for these items" story and then passing a check along to the guy after the sales were completed tells you all you need to know. Its fraud. The only reason this "Dustin" character didnt set up his own PayPal account for these transactions is probably so it couldnt be directly connected to his bank account. You can cash a check just about anywhere.

The funny part is this "coach" person trying to pass this off as him being scammed, while acting like he really isnt that upset. If I was ripped off for $1800 - whether I knew the guy or not - and was genuinely pissed, I'd be posting that I am getting local authorities involved and will get this "Dustin" person arrested for felony theft and fraud...not try to play dumb, innocent, and act like a victim. If I had someone truthfully come up to me and ask me to use MY PayPal account for funds made from the selling of items, and then simply pass him along a check, I would have said no way. What if those items were illegally obtained or stolen? Or fake? I mean, my 3 year old might be smart enough to say no to that. To be truthful, that's damn close to money laundering.

I hope he is afraid about losing his job. He should be. The man, according to previous posts, has a job at a school as a teacher and/or coach - which is ironic in and of itself, as he's educating our youth while trying to scam others out of money. But he shouldnt be afraid about losing his job over people calling...he should be afraid about losing his job because he's involved in a felony theft/fraud scheme. I still contend that the people who had money in these sales contact the local authorities in that area, even if they get their money back. The only way this stuff is stopped is for people to be arrested, charged, and convicted. If this "coach" person is indeed telling the truth, let him defend himself to the local authorities then.

OR this Dustin fellow just recently went off the deep end. I have a couple ex friends that up until a specific point in time, I felt I could trust very much, but then something happened that caused that trust to be broken for good. Maybe this is that last straw. Coach says he is going to speak to the authorities. If he takes that step, then this could be the breaking point in what was once a good friendship. It sucks. Sometimes you know people or grow up with people that get into drugs or something else, and will do anything for money, but you aren't aware of it until it slaps you in the face. Happy to say I am very suspicious and cynical so I tend to not get myself in these situations, but I could see if happening to more trusting or gullible people. I am very interested to see what the authorities have to say about this.

We are not the same person. He was generous enough to let me use his PP to receive payment. He's not me.

You "sold" stuff that you did not ship, and even gave those who bought from you bogus tracking numbers. This was a deliberate attempt to swindle money from people, and you tried to use someone else's PayPal account to do it in an attempt to dodge responsibility. You simply got caught.

It takes minutes to set up a PayPal account, and have it linked to your bank account usually takes a few days, if Im not mistaken. Its pretty clear to me anyway what you attempted to do.
