Scotty Pro Platinum custom has returned!!

I came home today to the sight that I had been waiting for - the FedEx box from Scotty Cameron.

It all started a few months ago when I had a go with a friend's 009. I loved it but knew that I could never afford one, so I thought that id try to see what else I could get that was similar. I loved the Pro Platinum Mill Spec and found one on eBay for £60. It was pretty beaten up but the feel was lovely and I thought it was a perfect candidate for some TLC.

I was initially a bit nervous of sending the putter to Scotty from the UK, but it couldn't have been more simple, so off it went at the start of July.

After looking through the Scotty gallery and asking a few opinions (thanks to those of you who helped), I decided that as well as a refurb, I would also get the putter refinished....... and a bit of paint fill and a stamp at the same time!

I finally got to see the results today, and it is absolutely beautiful!! The black oxide finish is brilliant, and the blue and orange fill(although it looks red in the photo) looks great. I also had the length and lie adjusted, reshafted and a new grip.

I couldn't recommend the service highly enough, and personally I think that its good value (for a golf club related spend) - I have a beautiful putter, that has been fully refurbished to my spec, for quite a bit less than a standard Scotty putter.

looks great, I'm just afraid its too light now. It was 330g before the refinish, how much does it weigh now?

Here you go. All the paint fill on the sole is white. I originally asked for a mix of colours but Scotty Cameron recommended white, and I'm glad I took their advice as I think it could've been a bit bright otherwise

No idea!! But it doesn't feel light if that makes sense. It was also 35" originally, whereas it is now 34", so that should make it even lighter, but it feels fine.

Yes, the putter looked well used in your original pic, but it didn't appear to be that bad - unless the topline was dinged up. You shouldn't have lost a lot of weight.
Plus, one of the nice things about having a Mil Spec refinished is, they are well known for being overweight to begin with. I have had several in my collection over the years (still have 3 today) and all of them have weighed more than their advertised weight by at least 4 grams. I had a 33/350 that weighed in at 358g's!
I currently have 2 33/350's and 1 34/340. The 340g actually weighs 346g and 1 of my 33/350 putters weighs 355g. Don't know what my other 350g Mil Spec weighs because it is mint and I've never had the head off that one.

Your putter turned out great! Love black Mil Spec's!
Hope you sink a ton of putts with it. (cool)

Thanks T-Mac. You're right that it wasn't in really bad order when i got it, more scratches and scrapes than serious damage, so I don't think that it would've lost too much weight.............it always makes me wonder what people do to their clubs to get them in to the beaten-up state!?!?!?

I didn't know that about the Mil Spec's often being a bit overweight, so that's good to know. As I say, it feels brilliant, and as i play on quick greens I don't mind a putter being a bit light anyway!

Choosing the re-finish in black was a bit of a risk as I'd never seen one in person and I loved the original finish, but really glad that I did go for it as it looks brilliant and a bit different. Looking forward to getting it on the course thisd weekend.

I've seen a few in black and they look terrific.
However, keep in mind now that the putter is black ox instead of Pro Platinum, it needs to be oiled after use. I wipe my carbon putters down with either food grade or electrical grade silicone. Easy maintenance.
Did Cameron send you a oil cloth with the putter? If so, those work fine too.

Now that would make it good value for money!!! Scary thing is that even at +6 handicap I'd still be a few shots behind the tour players!

Nope. The cloth comes pre-oiled. It will last a LONG time.
I wipe my carbon putters down with an oil cloth when I put them away for the winter. They stay wet though, so when you are wiping them with the oil cloth during the golf season, I suggest wiping the putter off with a dry towel prior to using it, and then just wipe it with the oil cloth after you get home for protection. The oil likes to pick up grass, dirt, sand and anything else on the greens (like fertilizer / chemicals). That's one of the reasons why I prefer silicone spray during the season. Spray a little food/electrical grade silicone on the putter head and give it a wipe. It dries to the touch but still protects the putter.

I actually just had to break my Pro Platinum back out and brush off the dust. I gave my Newport Select a little toss and snapped the shaft so it went back to Scotty to get reinstalled. But I'm loving my Pro Platinum and was humoring sending both putters in to get them refurbished a little. Scotty Cameron was a little too much, have you heard of the PutterLounge.com (based out of Colorado). Its only the next state over from me so i was going to send my putters to them and get some customizations done.

Not somewhere that I've heard of. Before I sent mine to Scotty, I tried to see if there were any cheaper UK equivalents - there were a couple that were about £50 cheaper, but then a few people suggested that the finishes wore off quickly and needed to be reapplied. I therefore took the view that id rather pay more for a long-lasting finish, rather than have to pay a little less, but have to do that a number of times which would end up more expensive!

That is a great looking putter. I recently purchased a Mil Spec that I was going to have refinished as well. Could you give me an idea of what the custom shop charged you for all this work?
The best and easiest thing to do is go on the Scotty Cameron website and put in what you want done......... it will let you go through all of the options and tell you how much each of it is going to cost, including the postage.
