I personally think the Heisman voting was just reversed. After watching Jones, that ream is barely marginal without him. But talking about bad Heisman voting............Eddie George over Tommie Frazier in 95?

 

That's how good I think Zeke is. Archie was an incredible college talent but his skills didn't translate to the NFL. Eddie was also phenomenal. He could be better coming out of College as Zeke, but, I think it's splitting hairs. I grew up watching Eddie. He's an all time great buckeye. But Zeke is a more versatile player in my opinion. Eddie was a power runner who generally stayed between the tackles. Zeke can run anywhere. Inside, outside, recieving (though that isn't a huge strength for him) but most importantly blocking. Zeke is maybe the best pass blocking RB I have seen in the college game (at least from a perspective of guys who are not specialist/full backs). The dude can flat out block. You'll be hard pressed to find a back whom is as capable in all of those facets coming out of college as Zeke is.

 

To be honest I agree with assessment of Elliot. He looks to me to be the best back coming out. But that just doesn't mean much in the NFL anymore. Guys who look like a sure fire thing never pan out while the undrafted free agent makes the pro bowl. It's such an inexact process. Why I think running backs have become so much less popular in the draft.

It's all about vision in the NFL. Raw talent can overcome lack of vision in the college game, but not the pros. That's why these late round picks excel.... they've lacked the elite skills to get through college on power alone, so they're coming out with much better developed vision to find and exploit the holes.

 

Trent Richardson is a good example. Quite the physical specimen, but unable to develop vision. That play from the preseason where he ran smack into a pile of defenders when one or two steps to the left was nothing but green was a FANTASTIC example.

My Spartans deserved to fall after that disgusting showing against Bama, as did OU.

 

I am surprised that Stanford finished ahead of OSU. I thought OSU's win against ND was bigger than Stanford's against Iowa AND Stanford lost two games and won at least two on the last play (WSU missed a FG, Stanford beat ND on one).

As much as people whine about expanding the playoffs, these teams have to realize that every week, especially towards the end of the year is a playoff game. You can't lose with 2-3 weeks left in the season and cry about how the playoffs are unfair. You just blew it. Stanford lost to Oregon w/ 3 weeks left. OSU lost to MSU, Iowa lost to MSU, ND lost to Stanford. Ok State fizzled, Baylor and TCU faded down the stretch. OU beat all those guys. Every game down the stretch matters.

 

But wait, I thought every week mattered in college football? Stanford losing to Northwestern should be no less of a loss because it happened in September.

 

You're actually making the argument for expanding the playoff. If you're going to get "eliminated" for losing a game in November, but not if that loss was in September, might as well make all the games that time of year mean something for real, not just polls.

There's a guy that plays in (now) LA that came out last year that's pretty complete as an RB. Pancake blocks, runs with power and speed, probably has the best hurdle in the game right now, and can catch it coming out of the backfield...and will be the rookie of the year
