I've gotten away from the game as a player but have remained a huge fan. Son plays competitively and that's been more important than my game. Add to that a transition into a position which involves extensive travel and long hours and I've played only a handful of times over the past few years. Am considering looking at this to get me started back, primarily because my body just won't move anymore so this, hopefully would address that.

My questions are:

1. Can you perform a lot of this program indoors...usually in a hotel?

2. Does it have to be done in 60 days or can you make it a 120 day program, for example? I understand that is less than ideal but I know there will be plenty of days where I just can not do it.
Yes I am almost half way of the program and it can all be done indoors. You can make it a 120 program or even longer without problem. I think that many people are in a similar situation as you. I go faster myself because I am retired and have a lot of time during the day. The program will make you stronger and more flexible.
Can you use the program with a different type of swing pattern or does the program teach a specific swing pattern that you're not supposed to alter? In other words, if I'm using a golfing machine/S&T'ish type of swing, can I incorporate that into the program?

To be honest - I have been doing P90X for a few years now and one of the components is yoga. And I swear it's the single best part of the program that has helped my game (and causes me the most pain!) Just started the program to strengthen core to allow me to keep up with my younger playing partners a few winters ago and have kept at it. Any kind of program you undertake that improves your health has merits, and if your game improves as well that's just bonus points.

But why does yoga have to be so painful! Must mean it's working. Or I'm old.
Not to worry, pain during yoga just means it's working. I think yoga and stretching is so important to a healthy life. It just so happens that it improves your game, too. I have an issue with really tight hip flexors from running, which I believe has created an issue with my hip rotation. Since starting the program and incorporating the stretching into my daily routine, it's improved drastically! Oh, and it gets less painful over time.
No, no, no! You should never feel pain during any exercise. Pain means there's something wrong!

I'd suggest pain means you are just getting old! That's my take away from my P90X routine, not getting any easier after three years.

Pain is typically not a good thing. Are you sure you're not just feeling sore, tired, or achy? That's different.

The program teaches a very specific swing pattern that you are not supposed to alter. You will be building a new swing from the ground up. The release which is part of the pattern is a stable release or body release perhaps comparable to the Slicefixer release.

Probably raped more than that, but that doesn't mean it's bad instruction (nor the opposite).

I am pretty sure that you are not on Day 14 and that you are doing your usual trolling exercise. However, if you WOULD be on Day 14 and you would not get it you should stop because even a child can understand it. It is that simple.

You really are a Zen Master of condescension. You're really not helping the image of the program here. If they're trolls, ignore them, don't feed them.

The website reads like a lot of new-age hogwash and "premium lifestyle" baloney that you see all over Facebook these days. I'm a fan of stretching programs but I don't much care for "one swing to rule them all" approaches, which is what you guys make this sound like.

I was no fan of the one swing for all either. However, I was really struggling to find the swing that would work for me. After meeting with an instructor or trying something presented on this forum there seemed to be some benefits and improvement but I never felt that all aspects of my swing felt right or optimal. This feeling was only confirmed when I viewed my swing on video.

We are told by many instructors that we should not compare our swings with the swings of the tour pros because they are something different all together. Out of desperation, I now start to question that. To move like a tour pro in terms of how the swing looks like should be possible when you have some athletic ability. It should be properly and thoroughly trained though.

To give an example: I have been trying to implement the Zipper Away move from Monte for I do not know how often when hitting balls and I could not get it. With the Tathata program you will spend almost every day to perfect this move without a ball and supported by stretching and strenghtening exercises. I think that this is really the only way to build a new swing that would mirror a top class move. At least, I am willing to give it a try. Time will tell.

Correct Repetition is the only way to ingrain stuff. Also....you need to be patient. Does this program allow you to send them your videos and have them evaluate ?

No it does not. Perhaps it is not necessary. The moves are explained in very much detail and it is relatively easy to feel the right moves and see it in the mirror. It is quite hard work though and there is a lot of focus on various pressures and extensions. For example there is a lot of focus on the right hand pushing down on the thumb of the left hand throughout the swing to create structure and extension (for right handers).

The movements seem already to be (partially) ingrained when I actually play on the course. I have never hit the ball better. Too early to cheer yet as I have learned through experience.

I'm with this statement 100%. This is why you need to be able to perform the movement sequence in slow motion before you ever have a chance of doing it full speed.

I agree with the slow motion. I think that the Zipper Away move ( and the following move in the follow through) is absolutely crucial. Conceptually, I could understand what I had to do but I could not do it in a full swing with a ball. Now after about a hundred repetitions without a ball it starts to appear in my swing.

It took a while to realize that the hips and knees really have to move backwards diagonally to 10.30 in the downswing and that it is a really awkward move which is not natural at all (at least not to me).

This approach seems similar to what I have read about the Paul Bertholy method.
I had to Google it but can indeed see some elements that are similar. Jim Waldron also seems to have very similar views as regards the influence of martial arts in his interpretation of the golf swing. In the end it is all about balanced, coordinated and athletic movements from the ground up.

I think what is a real differentiator with the Tathata method is the notion that there is nothing relaxed or loose in making a powerful and repeatable golf swing. The whole body, including the arms, is continuously pressurized in an athletic manner from start to finish.

7 days in and I'm very impressed by this program so far. I have been going slow and doing each day twice. Goal is to work through the program at least twice before next spring. I really believe this is the best money I've ever spent on instruction, the amount of quality material you get $180. The best thing is that everything just makes plain common sense - no convoluted moves, nothing unorthodox, no secrets. The more I've learned lately from the best teachers, the more I realize they all teach a lot of the same stuff just described/felt differently.

I am now at Day 34 and I am equally impressed. My glutes are hurting and it is sometimes tough but I am getting now more and more into positions that I see the pro's in. The beauty is (at least for a tinkerer like me) that there is no room for interpretation. You do exactly as Brian shows or it is wrong. This makes it very clear and there is no doubt. You must believe in this concept wholeheartedly and stick to it or it will be a waste of money and time.

Yes - my martial arts has had a huge influence on how I teach the golf swing, both the actual mechanics and the "how to learn it" part as well. "From the ground up", and "the inside to out" while in "rock solid balance" about sums it all up.

You're making a strong case and making me want to try this. I have a background in martial arts (at least when I was younger) and could never understand why golf instructors don't teach from the ground up like they do in martial arts. Like you, I'm also a tinkerer and am fully aware that this has really held me back.

One questions: Is he clear on how the hands work as well as how to do the release in exact terms???

The only hesitation I have is not having anyone to check and see if I'm doing the moves correctly. Or, if I started hitting poorly, having someone to help me get back on track. It would really be awesome of they had online instruction to augment the course.
