Justin rose, left arm downswing

Fair enough and I partially share in your confusion because I also got the arms off the chest advice from Dan but am starting to think that is just another way of saying move your arms faster since everyone is so enamored with a "pivot driven" swing.

Combine that with the fact I have a bad OTT swing sometimes simply because I've never realized how behind me my arms need to "feel"

And the same thing I said 58 posts prior. Are people not seeing that he literally says right in the article that this is my feel, but "in reality" that's not what happens due to the rotational forces of the pivot, which bring my arms out.

Just had a little chat with Dan as I thought it would benefit the thread. Basically he said that what Rose does in reality is the same as what Dan describes, but Rose's description is not the same.

Isn't it pretty well-settled that what a lot of touring professionals who contribute instructional articles describe may not reflect what they are actually doing, i.e., feel is not real?

I saw it, and was never questioning feel vs real. The problem with feeling the left arm down and pinned to the chest, and allowing rotational forces to bring the arms out, is that I've never read anyone recieve that advice when trying to get the left arm off the chest. I could be wrong, and maybe someone has received that advice, but I've never seen it. There have been countless golfers on here with the problem of rotating too soon, and getting arms behind. Never has anyone said to get the left arm pinned, and moving down into the right side. It's not just the article either. Watch Rose's interview that I posted. He demonstrates that he's trying to get his left arm pinned behind his chest. Again, I've always seen the advice to get arm immediately off the chest. Nothing like what Rose says in the article or the video interview.

Well some have a tendency to keep the arms glued to the chest. So getting them off the chest is designed for that.

Maybe i'm just fixed on Rose's feel and not looking at the whole picture, but arm moving down and pinning tight to the chest is just not the same. If we said his arm was moving out and off his chest too soon, and needed to feel down more to get to a perfect spot, that's fine.

Took a while in this thread to define what that article was about, a lot of wasted words and time discussing much ado about nothing.
For all the swing gurus.....What if Rose had said that at the beginning of his downswing he felt like he could crush a walnut between his a** cheeks?.............give me your swing thoughts?

Finally, Monte discussing getting the arm off the chest, and Rose is discussing what he wants to STOP doing.

I'm open to the fact I might not being seeing something here. IMO though, these pics show that Rose appears to be trying to implement something different than getting arm off chest. Now it is possible he's changed what he's working on and tweaked it, but he uses similar verbiage in the article.

I think they both want the left arm away from the right shoulder before turning.

Redjeep - what was your impression of Foley's DVD??

Thx - Bruce

Havent seen it all yet, seems pretty good, I don't have much of a review of it yet but I like it so far.

I liked it, its not a one model fits all like the first dvd. Provides tons of info on how the body moves for each individual person and clears up some misconception people have. Basically he covers every part of the body in the swing and how it relates to each person. Theres alot of info in it, took me like two evenings to finish most of it and I thought it was one of the best instructional dvd's Ive seen on content. Its not your cookie cutter Butch Harmon dvd with just basic info.

Arms staying tight and dropping straight down is to get the club kicking out, and moving left. It's the opposite of trying to shallow the shaft.
This makes no sense.
Club head out as in not stuck behind, and exiting left. When the hands work out the shaft shallows and club head releases more down down the line versus left.

Not necessarily.  I’ve seen ‘hands working out’ without shaft shallowing.  The latter isn’t necessarily correlated to the former.  When Rose executes his drill, the hands and arms work back and down AND the club shaft shallows.  Then he adds speed, which brings rotation which kicks shaft out into a square P6 delivery position and with more speed.
