Critique my swing. Lefty edition.

So I've been golfing for right about three months, trying my best do teach myself everything there is to know. My swing has improved tremendously from day one, but it is still nothing to brag about. I was wondering if y'all could throw some pointers this way.

 

Ps. I'm 6'6" if there are any extra tips for the tall.

If you've only been playing for 3 months you have done extremely well! However, there's no point in going into minute detail here as that will be too difficult to implement.

So I have two main observations:

The main one being that I think you are 'aware' of your height and try to compensate, both at the address and during your swing, by an exaggerated crouch. I'd advise trying to be a little more upright, but it needs to be a 'relaxed' upright!
It's possible that you might only be able to resolve the comfort of this if you have longer clubs. They wouldn't need to be 6 inches longer, but just maybe 1/2" - 1". It's possible a good professional could extend your existing clubs and keep the swing weight correct, to save buying new (just adding to the shaft can have horrible effects if you don't know what you're doing!). You will need to be fitted to get this right, though.

In your video, look at your head and how it drops on the backswing and see how your knees are very bent. I think this is a subconscious move. That said, you do manage to recover quite well to get the clubhead back to the ball (but do you hit quite a lot heavy?)

The other thing relates to rhythm. I think you're a little quick, which is often a mistake of new golfers. Keen to get the ball hit and keen to hit it far!
Ideally the perfect rhythm works out to a ratio of 3, that is the backswing is 3 times longer than the downswing, and doesn't matter too much how fast or slow you are in total.

When Tiger Woods was at his peak and won 1 out of every 3 competitions he played, his rhythm was almost metronomic to that ratio of 3 (not now though!).
So I'd recommend looking for a nice long, smooth takeaway, concentrating on keeping your head still. Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of thinking it is as often said: 'keeping the head down'. The head shouldn't be down, it should be still, and it's another tricky one for tall people!
