Balls per Temp

Hey guys, i mostly hang on the golf ball forums and trust your opinions.

 

Thats why i ask of you guys to help me pick 4 balls.. i live up in wisconsin so in the late fall it gets colder and i want to bag some balls that play well with in the cold. I game the project (a)'s during the summer and love them. I am just,wondering if there is a better urethane and surlyn ball for the colder days?

 

Please help me find a surlyn ball that is good for distance in warm weather and one for cooler weather and one urethane ball that perfomes in colder weather for max spin.

The temperature that the balls are stored at is very important. Especially where you live in Wisconsin.. A golf ball performs it best when the temp of the ball is between 70 and 90F... if the balls are colder and stored in lets say 40F, the materials will stiffen, and the ball velocity can drop up to around 4 mph in speed... thus making them much shorter... if the temp of the golf ball is above 90F, say in Phoenix stored in a car, the materials can soften and again lose ball speed and distance... Ideally you should keep them stored in your house overnight so when you take them out to play, they are at 70F... even if cold, you should be fine during the round if you keep one or two balls in your pocket and rotate them during the round..So, in summary I think you will be OK playing whatever ball you like if you take the time to keep them in your home prior to use...bag storage rooms at some clubs are not heated, so those golf balls will be cold when you take them out to play.. most locker rooms or lockers are also a good place to keep them... but for sure do not leave them in your car overnight...

Very helpful information! I appreciate you taking the time to let me know! Now maybe ill have to try some of your balls and put em up against the Project (a)'s ?

Great info Mr. Snell. I was just pondering a fall ball again, but your expertise confirms I can just keep playing the ball of choice with a little pre round prep.
