Sand/Glass Blasting the PVD off a SC

I really like the SC Select 2.6 but am not a fan of the black finish. This is what I am really looking for (except I do not want to pay the CT price).

Roughly what is the cost to have this done? Anyone had luck with it?

Call your local plating shop(s) for a quote; they'll be able to do this pretty cheaply and you'll save yourself time and shipping. Most will accommodate a walk-in order if you tell them ahead of time what your looking for and have the head prepped:

- Strip the paintfill

- Mask off the bombs with painters or masking tape. Simply put a strip across all three then use a pencil or pen to outline the outer edge of each bomb, thereby perforating the tape and allowing you to pull it off leaving the bombs themselves masked. What this does is preserve the shiny ring around each cavity because if you leave it exposed the beadblast will dull it down to the same finish as the rest of the body (if you would prefer this look then by all means leave them exposed). Again, I'd let the shop know what you're planning so they can perform the work accordingly.

- Pull the shaft. All you need to do is evenly apply heat to the shaft about an inch above the hosel; after a minute or so, using a towel or gloved hand, see if you can twist the head and you should be able to remove it.

FYI, I think most folks on here use 80 grit glass bead at 90 psi when doing these jobs.

Sorry, this is bad advice.

Toilet cleaner contains Hydrochloric Acid, which is extremely caustic and [url="http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/174409-caution-thread-toilet-bowl-cleaner-is-for-toilets/"]will literally eat away the metal without any control[/url]. Leaving the putter head in the solution for only a limited amount of time in no way guarantees it will uniformly remove the .2-5 micron thick finish you wish to remove without touching the base metal.

I have never seen a TB cleaner DIY that went according to plan. Any carbon finish can be safely stripped with coke/CLR/naval jelly. Plating can be stripped with Caswell's products or media blasted. Stainless finishes are easily media blasted away; 80 grit glass bead should keep even fine face milling intact as well.

There is absolutely no reason to bring HCl or muriatic acid into play for any of these jobs except as a last resort... and even then YMMV.
